oopgevlek is. n Reeks inbrake wat strek

vanaf Bellville, Kraaifontein, Durbanville,

Goodwood, Brackenfell, Parow, en ook

Kuilsrivier, is ontbloot.

TygerBurgerhet op 27Novemberberig oor

hoe die sindikaatlede die een n die ander

mekaar verklik het toe die polisie op hul be-

gin toeslaan het (Diefnes oopgevlek).

Di hele sage het begin as n soektog na

n kluis wat in Groenvallei gesteel is en

waarin die eerste verdagte (22) begin het om

makkers uit te wys.

DieBellville-polisie,wat sedertDinsdag 20

November aan di saak gewerk en altesaam

ses verdagtes in hegtenis geneemhet, het be-

vestig dat hulle op ng goedere beslag gel

het, en dat ng mense vorendag gekom het

om ng sake te kommaak teen di vermeen-

de professionele diewe.

Daar het tot dusver agt mense vorendag

gekom om goedere te kom opeis wat tydens

huisbrake gebuit is: vier van Durbanville,

twee van Brackenfell, twee van Bellville en

een van Kuilsrivier, het kapt. Fienie Nimb

van die Bellville-polisie ges. Al die eien-

dom is nog nie opgeis nie. Rekenaartoerus-

ting, juweliersware, karsleutels (vir n Mer-

cedes en VW met afstandsbeheer daaraan)

is nog nie uitgeken nie, het sy ges.

Huisbraak

Daar was aanvanklik vyf sake van onder-

meer diefstal en huisbraak gemaak, maar n

bykomende agt gaan teen die hoofbeskuldig-

de heropen word, het Nimb ges.

Hy is Brian Willemse (33), glo aan die

stuur gestaan het van al die rowe, soos deur

sy makkers uitgewys.

Die ander hoofverdagte is Cinclair Jacobs

(32). Die twee mans is steeds in aanhouding,

maar het reeds hul eerste hofverskyning ge-

maak, het Nimb bevestig.

Willemse se borgaansoek is geweier aan-

gesien hy reeds op borg uit is vir twee sake

van onderskeidelik huisbraak en besit van

gesteelde goedere in Bellville en Kraaifon-

tein. Dan is daar nou ook die 13 sake waarop

hy tans aangekla is, het Nimb ges.

Afgeneem

Nimb s vandat die lede van die sindikaat

in hegtenis geneem is, het huisbrake by

komplekse drasties afgeneem.

Nimb s die uiteindelike waarde van die

goedere, wat eers geskat is op R30 000, t

R50 000, oor die R100 000 beloop soos ng van

die sindikaat se vermeende gesteelde ware

gevind is. Daar is op nog juweliersware by

n verdagte inKraaifontein sewoning beslag

gel. Dit is uitgeken as eiendomwat in Brac-

kenfell gesteel is tydens n huisbraak.

Sy s verskeie afdelings ondersoek die sin-

dikaat se werksaamhede en klagstaat.

Nimb s daar is nog gesteelde goedere wat

uitgeken moet word en raai die publiek aan

om die Bellville-polisie hieroor te kontak by

021 918 3470.

A group of elderly men and women

were treated to an end of year lunch

at the Rainbow Primary School in

Westbank this past weekend. Margeret

by the local branch of the South

African National Civic Organisation

(Sanco). The group of elderly started

off the luncheon with a prayer, song

and dance. Silverton Ntushelo, organiser,

said the men and women are all

residents from Ward 19. Our message

to the elderly is that they too have the

right to live without having fear. We

organised this function to make them

feel safe in our society, Ntushelo said.

About 100 women and men attended

the event which started at midday.

They were also given Christmas gifts.

A man appeared in the Blue Downs Magis-

trates Court yesterday for allegedly raping

four minor boys.

The alleged rape incidents took place in

Driftsands, an informal settlement located

near Mfuleni.

Capt Nomathemba Muavha, spokesper-

son for the Mfuleni police, said the suspect

is an 18-year-old male was arrested and

charged with rape.

The victims are four boys, aged between

eight and nine years old.

Allegedly the uncle of one of the boys

walked in on the suspect raping one of the

boys onSundaywhile hewas looking for his

nephew.

All four boys were in the house at the

time, Muavha said.

Sandile Dastile, chairperson for the Mfu-

leni Community Police Forum, said yester-

day he was not yet informed about the inci-

dent but will follow up the matter up with

the police.

He said rape is not an increasing crime

in the area, and that the only other similar

incident which he had dealt with was in

Mfuleni in 2012. A minor (16) was arrested

for allegedly raping three other minors,

Dastile said.

He said people who fall victim of rape

should report the matter to the police.

I often talk with the people at imbizos

and ask them to come forward.

He said often rape victims choose to keep

silent. And in some cases the perpetrators

are known to the victims, he said.

Asked about what parents can do to safe-

guard their children Dastile said: People

should develop the mindset that my child is

your child.

Make sure your child is at home at the

right time to keep them safe. If you do not

see your child do not run around but report

it to the police immediately, he said.

He said gangsterism is a big problem in

Driftsands and that crimes such as robbery

and housebreaking are more common.

Muavha could not confirm yesterday

whether the boys had received counselling.

The investigating officer, according to

her, was at court.

Die polisie in Kuilsrivier versoek inwoners

omveiligheidsmaatrels te tref voordat hul-

le met vakansie vertrek.

Die polisie het ges huisbrake en diefstal

neem gewoonlik toe oor die feesseisoen en

dat hulle om di rede meer patrollies in die

woongebiede doen.

Lt.kol. Dirk Rademan, hoof van sigbare

polisiring, het ges baie huisbrake kom in

Kuilsrivier voor, veral wanneer die mense

weg is.

Dit gebeur ook hoofsaaklik gedurende

die week, het Rademan ges. Die gebiede

waar rowers meestal toeslaan, sluit in

Amandelsig, Soneike, Rouxville, Sarepta en

Highbury.

Rademan het ges inwoners moet alarm-

stelsels laat installeer en met hul bure ken-

nismaak. Op di manier kan hulle ons o

en ore op die grond wees, het Rademan by-

gevoeg.

Kapt. Isaac van Niekerk, polisiewoord-

voerder, het ges mense moet ook nie hul

waardevolle besittings op n sigbare plek

laat nie.

Die polisie het ges inmeeste gevalle trap

die rowers die deur oop, vat waarvoor hulle

gekom het en slaan op die vlug.

Ons doen ook optredes op die sogenaam-

de roofroetes langs Nooiensfonteinweg.

Die beamptes stop verdagte persone en

deursoek hulle, het Rademan ges.

Hy het ges baie mense wat van of na die

treinstasie stap, word ook geteiken deur ro-

wers. Die polisie doen hier ook patrollie-

werk.

Rademan het ook gewaarsku dat mense

nie met groot bedrae geld op straat moet

stap nie.

Van Niekerk het ges die Kersseisoen is

die tyd van die jaar wanneer mense met

groot bedrae geld stap. Ons vra dat mense

dit nie doen nie. Soms trek die mense die

geld en dan agtervolg die rower hulle. Die

mense word soms tot by hul huise agtervolg

en beroof, het Van Niekerk ges.

Die polisie versoek ook dat ondernemings

hul personeellede se salarisse in hul bank-

rekeninge inbetaal, plaas daarvan om groot

bedrae te trek en dit dan te vervoer.

Die dorp is ook een van die brandpunte

waar rowers gereeld toeslaan.

Rademan het ges: Hier is n groep wat

in die gebied rondbeweeg en die kleiner

winkels teiken.

n Bekende kroeg in die dorp is verlede

week deur die groep beroof.

Ons vermoed dis dieselfde groep wat on-

langs by n klub in Brackenfell toegeslaan

het vanwe hul modus operandi, s hy.

Die polisie gaan ook tennouste saamwerk

met die verkeersdepartement en die metro-

polisie. n Reeks padversperrings word vir

die feesseisoen beplan

Naas die padversperrings beoog hulle ook

omby onwettige sjebiens in Kalkfontein toe

te slaan.

Die feesseisoen is die tyd wanneer meer

mense aangerandword,hetRademanges.

Die polisie maak ook tydens die feessei-

soen gebruik van die hulp van vrywilligers

en reserviste.

Abusinessman fromHighbury inKuils Riv-

er said he and his employees are fortunate

to be alive following a brazen cash in transit

heist on Thursday last week.

The incident took place at about 10:30 at

the Shell garage service station inHighbury

Road.

According to an eyewitness account two

security guards from the Fidelity Security

Group were collecting cash at the Shell ga-

rage when they were attacked.

A sumof R10 000 is suspected to have been

stolen.

According to the police, two shots were

fired. No one sustained injuries.

The most important thing is the safety

of the people. I am just glad we are all

okay, Bayazeed Karolia, owner of the

service station, told TygerBurger.

According to Karolia the security

guards went about their normal routine

before the incident took place.

They picked up the money at 10:30.

They followed their normal procedure.

One guard came to collect the cash, while

the other stood guard, he said.

According to him one of the robbers act-

ed like a normal tenant.

One petrol attendant attended to him.

He pointed to the bonnet and the attendant

opened it for him.

As soon as they saw the Fidelity guard

walk out, they ran to him. One of them

grabbed the canister containing the cash,

the other held a hand pistol what seemed

to look like a 9 mm at the guard.

They took themoney and fled in a car,

Karolia explained.

According to him one of the robbers also

had an AK47.

As they sped off they fired two shots in

the air. They then drove off.

Karolia said he is thankful none of his

staff members was injured.

When my staff saw what was happen-

ing they hid away for their safety. One of

them managed to take down the cars reg-

istration number. We supplied it to the po-

lice who confirmed that the vehicle was sto-

len.

Fortunately none of my staff is trauma-

tised. We have spoken to them and asked

them if they want to take a day off, but they

are okay.

A person does not expect anything like

this to happen, he explained.

By yesterday no arrests have yet been

made.

O kragtie, nee! Die baba kom, het Rudi

Conradie teruggeroep en net betyds by sy

vrou se sy gekniel om sy nuwe babadogter

die lewe in te help.

Die verhaal van Zo se onverwagse ge-

boorte op 2 Desember het sowat 40 minute

vroer op dieselfde oggend by haar ouerhuis

in Kraaifontein begin.

S vertelma Jeanine: Ekhet vroeg die og-

gend met rugpyn wakker geword maar was

nie te bekommerd nie, omdat Zo se verwag-

te datumeers 7Desemberwas. Ekhet toe nie

besef dat di rugpyn die begin van my kon-

traksies was nie.

Teen 07:10, terwyl ek ontbyt gemaak het,

het die eerste kwaai kontraksie gekom en

ongeluk voor die Glengarry-winkelsentrum

in De Bronweg die verkeer tot stilstand ge-

bring.

By CapeGate verby, so teen 07:30, was die

kontraksies tweeminute uitmekaar en Rudi

het verwoed op sy selfoon rondgebel vir poli-

sie- of verkeersbegeleiding, vertel Jeanine.

Die stem aan die anderkant van die 10111-

lyn het Rudi aangeraai om so gou moontlik

van die pad af te trek en tewag vir die polisie

of ambulans.

In daardie stadium was ons naby die En-

gen-vulstasie in De Bron en het ons net daar

op die hoek voor n groen rietbossie afge-

trek, vertel sy.

n Paar minute later, teen 07:54, het Jeani-

ne se water gebreek en vyf minute later is

Zo gebore.

Rudi was sprakeloos en al wat hy kon

doen was om sy hemp uit te trek en aan te

gee vir my om Zo in toe te draai, s sy.

Ek het gelag en gehuil! Dis n gevoel wat

ek nie aan enigiemand kan beskryf nie,

voeg Rudi by.

Die 10111-operateur het aan Rudi verdui-

delik hoe om sy vinger in die baba se mond-

jie te druk, en sy het haar eerste asemteug

gegee en aan die huil gegaan sterk, gesond

en n volle 3,6 kg.

n Paar minute later het twee polisievoer-

tuie met blouligte en sirenes die sentrum in-

gejaag.

naby! Dink net aan al die teaterfooie wat

ons gespaar het.

Inwoners van Wesbank het onlangs hulde

gebring aan oud-pres. Nelson Mandela wat

verledeweek op 95-jarige ouderdomoorlede

is.

Mandela word Sondag 15 Desember be-

grawe. Die voormalige staatshoof is by sy

huis in Houghton oorlede en sal op sy ge-

boortedorp, Qunu, in die Oos-Kaap te ruste

gel word.

Ricardo le Roux, n gemeenskapsleier in

Wesbank, het ges hulle is geerd as ge-

meenskap om n straat na die voormalige

leier van die ANC vernoem te kan h.

Ons is een van die eerste woongebiede

waar mense van diverse kulture, ras en ge-

tuur-fiksie het Saterdag met sy kierie in die

een hand en sy vrou, Mokhiniso, aan die an-

der, by die Tygervallei-winkelsentrum n

draai gaan gooi.

Smith het reeds 120 miljoen boeke ver-

koop, wat in 12 tale wreldwyd vertaal is.

Die skrywer is in Suid-Afrika om sy jongste

boek, Vicious Circle die 34 ste uit sy pen

te bemark.

Die bekende radio-omroeper, John Mayt-

ham van die radiostasie 5FM, het n vlugtige

vraag-en-antwoordsessie met Smith gehou,

en n paar interessanthede het uit di ge-

sprek gekom.

Die karakters kom klop aanmy agterkop

en s wat hulle van my wil h, het Smith

vertel. Ek is steeds n stout seun wat iets

doen wat nie soos werk voel nie om stories

te skryf en mense te ontmoet. Eks ontset-

tend gelukkig om iets vroeg in my lewe te

kon raakvat waarvoor ek so lief is, en waar-

van mense klaarblyklik ook hou.

Smith het vertel hoe sy eerste stuk kritiek

homamper gedaan gemaak het totdat sy stu-

dieleier glo sou ges het: n Mens lees nie

daai goed nie, jy weeg dit!

Mense het in lang rye gestaan om Smith te

ontmoet. Een bewonderaar, Monty MacKin-

na van die suidelike voorstede, het n hele

tas vol van Smith se boeke uitgepakwat hy

geteken wou h.

Hy s: Hierdie is n ervaring wat een

keer in n leeftyd gebeur. Dis een van die

dinge wat ek nou op my bucket list kan af-

merk.

Denise vanSchalkwyk,wat Smith se boe-

ke lees sedert sy 12 jaar oud is, het ges dis

n groot eer om hom te ontmoet.

Wilbur Smith het my genspireer om

my eie boekwinkel in Bonnievale oop te

maak, het sy ges.

Nicole Dodds s dit was deur haar pa dat

sy self ook Smith se boeke begin lees het.

My pa kon nie vandag hier wees nie. Hy

sou in my kleintyd Smith se boeke lees en

dan vir my die storie vertel, het sy ges.

Lynne Greenwood, bestuurder van die

boekwinkel, het ges hoe n groot voorreg

dit was om Smith daar te h. Die wonder-

likste ding omtrent hom wat hier is, is dat

hy die tyd afknyp ommet elke enkelemens

hier tyd te spandeer. Hy is al baie lank in

di bedryf en dis net wonderlik om te sien

hoe hy tyd spandeer met mense wat lief is

vir lees en boeke.

Die 80-jarige Smith verlaat sy huidige

uitgewer, Pan Macmillan, aan die einde

van die jaar. Daarna sal hy ses boeke in die

volgende drie jaar aan die uitgewer Har-

perCollins lewer met die hulp van n me-

deskrywer, berig The Star. Di kontrak is

sowat 15 miljoen of R240 miljoen werd.

Smith het aan die lang rye bewonderaars

in Tygervallei ges: Ek wil vir ten minste

die volgende 15 jaar nog skryf.

City council today approved the new bylaw:

Control of Undertakings that Sell Liquor to

the Public, 2013.

The new bylaw is expected to be promul-

gated in the Provincial Government Gazette

in January 2014 and will repeal all existing

bylaws concerned with the sale of liquor. It

is likely to come into effect on 1 February

2014.

The bylaw allows for the possibility of ex-

tended trading hours during the week and

on Sundays for off-consumption trade, says

Garreth Bloor, mayoral committee member

for economic, environmental and spatial

planning.

With the adoption of the bylaw, we be-

lieve that we have been sensitive to the need

to balance the challenge of addressing the so-

cial impact of liquor trading without caus-

ing job losses and damage to the local econo-

my, he added.

Applications for the extension of on-con-

sumption tradinghours can continue asnor-

mal.

However, applications for the extension of

off-consumption trading hours can only be

made once the new bylaw is gazetted.

Wagglers raise R125 000

They wiggled and waggled and earned

R125 000 for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.

The they are the approximately 1 600

walkers and 1 100 dogs who took to the

streets of Tokai on Sunday 1 December for

the annual 4.5 km SPCA MyPlanet Wiggle

Waggle Walkathon.

The hugely popular charity dog walk cel-

ebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

The funds raised with the help of new

sponsor,MyPlanet,will go directly towards

helping prevent animal cruelty during the

upcoming festive season, the organisation

said.

The CoGH SPCA is once again extreme-

ly touched, not only by the loyal support

shown by Capetonians to their local SPCA,

but also by these animal lovers unwaver-

ing love and dedication towards their four-

legged friends, said Juan August, SPCA

event organiser.

People travel from far and wide to take

part in the walk and enjoy a fun-filled fami-

ly morning, and we are privileged to have

sponsors and partners who enable us to put

a safe and well-organised event together

each year, he said.

Television presenter Tracey Lang and

media personality Cato Bekker, who are al-

so bothDJson radio stationandmediapart-

ner, Smile FM, provided entertainment as

the MCs for the day.

The return this year of the infamousWig-

gle Waggle Christmas Market also proved

highly popular among walkers and their

best friends who were treated to all sorts

of early Christmas presents, an SPCA

spokeswoman said.

Participants also received a jam-packed

goodie bag, and enjoyed entertainment for

all ages, including spot prize give-aways

and competitions, while the kids were kept

busywith balloon twisting, clowns, a jump-

ing castle and even a visit and sweets from

Santa Claus himself, she said.

Die beste Nuwejaarsbesluit wat Suid-Afri-

kaners in 2014 kan neem, is om Nelson

Mandela se nalatenskap uit te leef.

Hoe n wonderlike land sal dit dan nie

wees om in te bly nie!

Eerstens sal almal hul mede-landgenote

vergewe. Niemand sal meer met n wrok

in sy hart rondloop oor n sekere mens of

groep wat hom of haar in die verlede

ingedoen het nie.

Rasseharmonie sal hoogty vier. Soos

Madiba sy hand van vriendskap uitge-

steek het na alle rassegroepe in Suid-Afri-

ka, sal almal mekaar kan omarm in

vreedsame voortbestaan.

Verdraagsaamheid tussen groepe oor

verskille in gewoontes en kulture is een

van die grootste lesse wat hy ons probeer

leer het.

Daar sal geen moord, doodslag en

diefstal wees nie. Madiba het hom beywer

om geweld onder mense, korrupsie en

oneerlikheid tot op die been uit te roei.

Onderdrukking van ander mense of

groepe sal nooit weer in ons geskiedenis

herhaal word nie. Hieronder tel nie net

politieke groepe nie, maar ook individue.

Gesinsgeweld is n goeie voorbeeld van

laasgenoemde.

Hoewel Madiba se een groot droom dat

alle Suid-Afrikaners uit die kloue van

armoede moet ontsnap, nog ver van die

werklikheid is, is dit iets waarna ons

almal kan streef en aan werk. Beter

huisvesting en gehalte-onderwys vir

almal is die belangrikste boustene vir

hierdie Madiba-droom.

Citymanager of the City of Cape Town, Ach-

mat Ehbrahim, last week confirmed that the

city has complied with the findings of the

Public Protector, with regard to damages af-

ter a sewage spill.

Amonth ago ThuliMadonsela ordered the

city to apologise to IvanKumwendaofKraai-

fontein, and pay him R25 871 in damages af-

ter a sewerage pipe burst outside his proper-

ty on 2 December 2010, damaging his house

and belongings.

After the city fixed thepipeKumwendaap-

plied for compensation,whichwas repudiat-

ed.

He turned to the Public Protector for help.

In her ruling Madonsela found that the

citys response to her provisional reportwas

defensive.

They argued that the pipe burst as a result

of a blocked drain, but Madonsela found the

citys repudiation unjustified and accord-

ingly improper.

She furthermore ordered that the city con-

tinue to monitor the problem area with the

drains outside his house.
