Religious Education Today is Catechetical Sunday. Catechesis is a distinct and special ministry in the Church. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear, “Catechesis is intimately bound up with the whole of the Church’s life….her inner growth and correspondence with God’s plan depend essentially on catechesis” (no. 7). This ministry of teach-ing in the name of the Church has a profound dignity, which is why catechists are formally commissioned by the Church. It is only fitting that we set aside a day to high-light this ministry and invite the entire church community to think about our responsibility to share our faith with others.

COMMUNITY DINNER Saturday, September 21, 2019
In the spirit of continuing to provide corporal acts of mercy in support of those less fortunate in our community, on behalf of our Christian Service Committee, we will be hosting a Community Dinner on Saturday, September 21 from 5:30 to 6:30pm at St. James Episcopal Church, 1 St. James Place in Goshen. This event will represent the next phase of our ongoing apostolic mission of extending our parishioner outreach effort toward helping those in need, and build upon the positive momentum realized at our successful Goshen Ecumenical Food Pantry hot breakfast offering (February 2019) and ongoing Valley View Nursing Home bingo prize collection efforts. As the hosting church, we are asking those of you who could help, to volunteer by assisting with the preparation of this community dinner. Toward that end, we are looking for parishioners to prepare their signature entrée’s, salads, and/or desserts (everyone loves desserts) and drop off at St. James Church by 4:00pm on September 21. Historically, we serve approximately 70-75 meals at these events, so prepare accordingly. In an effort to coordinate the various menu items and avoid any possible redundancies, please call or text Mark or Meri O’Hara @ 845-772-1088 or 845-294-5518 to let us know of your commitment to volunteer, as well as what you will be bringing to the dinner.
September is National Recovery Month Catholic Charities operates one of the largest
and most comprehensive addiction treatment programs in the Hudson Valley. Their goal is to help individuals build a psychological, physical, and spiritual foundation to ensure a lasting recovery.
Staff includes licensed/credentialed: psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, Creden-tialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC), and mental health practitioners. Clinical services are offered in both English and Spanish. Services are available five days/four evenings a week.
