SOME NOTES REGARDING THE UPCOMING WORK IN THE CHURCH
The removal of the pews for restoration is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 17. We are told that the process will take ten weeks, so for the duration, weekend Masses will be cel-ebrated in McCaffrey Hall, beginning June 22/23. (During the time that the pews are out, the tiles in the aisles will be removed and the hardwood floor throughout the church will be refinished.) To prepare for our temporary relocation, we will need some help on Sunday, June 16, namely: - After the 12:00pm Mass, we need help removing and packing the red hymnals; - After the 5:00pm Mass, we need help removing and packing the maroon binders. A SignUp Genius has been set up for both of these events; the link is available on the parish website and the parish Facebook page. In order to make McCaffrey Hall as comfortable as possible for our temporary stay there, we are going to borrow folding chairs from Burke Catholic High School to supplement those we already have. To that end, we will need help on Friday, June 21 to load and bring those chairs from BC to SJS. There is an additional SignUp Genius for that, also linked on the website and the Facebook page. A few reminders about our time out of the church: Daily Mass will continue to be celebrated in the chapel; the chapel will be open each day
for personal prayer, and if anyone would like to stop in and light a candle. Baptisms will be celebrated in the gym. Funerals will be celebrated at neighboring parishes, depending on which is available on a
given day. The priests and musicians from St. John’s will travel to that church for the fu-neral; all else (e.g., wake services, committals) will be as usual.
As of now, we will set up a temporary confession station in the McCaffrey Hall kitchen. A section of parking spaces right across from the back gym door (the one with the
ramp) will be reserved for those who normally park along the side of the church or in other designated handicapped spaces.
We also need to clean out the church boiler room in preparation for asbestos abatement, pouring of a new floor, and installation of the new boiler. The clean-out is slated for Saturday, June 15; there is a SignUp Genius on the parish website and Facebook page.
