Dwarsrivier MineArbour Day celebrated
in KalkfonteinOn Friday 5 September 2014 Kalkfontein village near
Dwarsrivier Mine became a hive of activity as Arbour
Day was celebrated.
Dwarsrivier Mine, the Department of Education, SK FM
and local community and political leaders joined hands
to create awareness for greening the planet with
indigenous trees. The event took place at Mmahlagane
Primary School. Learners from Gobetse High School,
Ngwaabe Secondary School, Sengane High School,
Ngwanangoato High School and Nkotwane High School
joined the primary school learners to learn more about
Arbour Day. More than 500 learners attended the
event.
Dwarsrivier Mine has established a small nursery at
Mmahlagane Primary School. This will serve as a hub
from where cultivated trees can be distributed in the
area. The aim is to also involve other businesses,
mining companies and individuals who would like to
become involved with donating indigenous trees for
greening the area.
A short presentation about three trees common in the
area gave the learners valuable information on why
indigenous vegetation is so important and what uses
there are for them. Currently the Buffalo
Thorn (Mokgalwa in Sependi) (Ziziphus
Mucronata); Cross Berry (Moretlwa in
Sepedi) (Grewia occidentalis) and the Mountain Aloe
(Sekgopha in Sepedi) (Aloe Marlothii) are being
cultivated in the nursery. These plants will be distributed
to various schools for planting.
Mr Remember Mmbengwa from Dwarsrivier Mine
encouraged the learners to take care of the environment
and become involved with projects that will create a
sustainable and green future for Greater Tubatse. The
emphasis fell on planting indigenous trees and using
them in a sustainable way.
After the formal program that included speeches from
Mrs. Masha (Mmahlagane Primary School Principal),
Kgoshi Masha, Cllr. Tshehla from Greater Tubatse
Municipality, Mr MW Komane from the Department of
Education, Mr Silas Hlapolosa and Mr Remember
Mmbengwa from Dwarsrivier Mine, the group planted
a tree and visited the nursery. Learners provided
entertainment items between the various speakers. The
day ended with a warm meal and lots of newly gained
knowledge about indigenous trees.
Planting trees and visiting the newly establishednursery was just part of the programme.Learners also received informative talks aboutthe indigenous trees of the area.

The Office of the Premier says the Province has failed toachieve the “Clean Audit 2014” target, but some improvementshave been recorded during 2013/14. .
Limpopo Departments have recorded a small regression inthe number of Votes that received unqualified audit opinions, from 7 to 6 in 2012/13 to 2013/14 respectively. In 2013/14 theProvince recorded only one “Clean Audit”, in the Department ofCo-Operative Governance Human Settlements and TraditionalAffairs (CoGHSTA). It is however worth noting that three otherDepartments that obtained unqualified audit reports for 2013/14were sited with a minor number of no compliance matters, theybeen Office of the Premier, Provincial Treasury and Safety,Security and Liaison. On the whole, for 2013/14 the provincialdepartments audit outcomes were as follows; 1 Clean, 5Unqualified, 6 Qualified and 1 Disclaimed.
During the current year the Province did recordimprovements in the audit outcomes of three departments. TheOffice of the Premier says the improvement in the auditoutcome of the Department of Health and Public Works bothfrom Disclaimed opinions to Qualified is commendable and it istrusted that these improvements will continue during the currentyear to unqualified. The other improvement was in theDepartment of CoGHSTA from an Unqualified to Clean Audit.
Unfortunately the Department of Economic Development,Environment and Tourism was the only department to record aregression in audit opinion from unqualified to qualified due to
movable assets between the Department and the LimpopoTourism Agency. Of major concern in the province is thecontinued disclaimer in the Department of Education, whichhas been disclaimed for three consecutive years and the 6qualified opinions of which three have remained qualified from2012/13, namely Departments of Agriculture, SocialDevelopment and Sport, Arts and Culture. It has been notedthat movable assets remains the Achilles heel in the province. The Provincial Treasury has commissioned a movable assetsscanning project that aims to address this perennial problemand assist these departments to progress to an unqualifiedopinion in 2014/15.
For the five public entities in the province, an improvementhas been recorded in the Limpopo Economic DevelopmentAgency (LEDA) from qualified reports over the last threefinancial years to unqualified in 2013/14. The LimpopoGambling Board (LGB) has maintained its unqualified auditreport, but also needs to strive to a clean status in 2014/15. Itis also worth noting that the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA)has progressed to a qualified audit opinion in 2013/14 fromthe previous, five consecutive years, of disclaimed opinions. The regression in the audit opinion of the Gateway AirportAuthority Limited (GAAL) from qualified to disclaimed isconcerning to the Province and decisive interventions will beneed to correct this situation in the public entity. The report forthe Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) has not yet been finalized.

On Wednesday evening this weekBafana Bafana played to a goallessdraw in their start for the 2015 AfricaCup of Nations (Afcon). The gamewas played in Cape Town with manyof the seats still available just beforethe game. The fact is that Bafana Bafana is theone national sports team that is notdrawing the united support fromSouth Africans as the Springboks orProteas. In fact, compared to Clubsupport, Bafana Bafana’s support isdismal. On Tuesday, ahead of thegame against Nigeria, only about 25000 tickets were sold – even thoughticket sales had been open for abouta month. This was about half theavailable seats for the game.In stark comparison to this, the gamebetween Kaizer Chiefs and OrlandoPirates in the MTN8 final on 20September sold out in approximatelyfour hours.Platinum Gazette asked readerswhy they think Bafana Bafana isfacing such poor support comparedto the Clubs.
Mr Thato Moeng said: “BafanaBafana has disappointed us somany times. We don’t believe inthem anymore. They are likepoliticians. If you go there to play orcoach, they pay you a lot of moneyand they make lots of promises, butthey never deliver. I’m a Chiefs fanand choosing between a Bafana orChiefs game I’ll pick the Chiefsgame because I know we won’tlose. Maybe draw, but not lose”.
Mr Joseph Malepe said: “Somepeople do support Bafana Bafana.People don’t watch the games ofBafana because they’ve beenlosing too much in the past. Maybethe new coach will make it better.I’d rather go to a Kaizer Chiefsgame than a Bafana one”.
Mr TN Phaswane said: “Theproblem is that Bafana Bafana isnot performing. This changingcoaches like socks is not working. They must give the coaches sometime. Rome was not build in oneday. Everytime they change, people have to adapt. With Bafanawe give a coach 1 month and hemust perform, but with ourgovernment 20 years is too little toshow proper progress. I’m aSundowns fan and I’ll rather watchthem than Bafana”.
Mnr. Tom Bronkhorst sê: “Hullemaak nie eintlik opspraak nie. Dieklubs se sokker is baie meeropwindend”. By hom is Tommie.
Above: MrThabisoRapuleng said:“There is noconsistency inBafana Bafana. They chop andchangecoaches. Nowthey plan for2022 and theywant to playagainst teamslike Nigeria withaninexperiencedsquad. I supportboth Bafana andChiefs, but I’llrather go for aChiefs game”.
Mr Frans Makhubedu said: “We arefamiliar with our Club teams. Isupport Kaizer Chiefs. I like themmore than Bafana Bafana. Bafanais always changing their coach thatis why they don’t grow. We mustgive the new coach enough time totrain the team”.
Mr Vasco Tavette said: “We don’tsupport them because they losemost of the time. Pirates and Chiefsgive us nice games. I’m a Chiefsfan and will rather go to one of theirgames than to watch BafanaBafana”. With him is Winnie.
Mr Gilbert Theko said: The spiritwithin the boys at the Clubs areone of unity, but that spirit is not inthe national team. The momentumin the national team was lost. Theyjust chop and change, especiallywith coaches. They also don’t talkto the nation while the club ownersgive back to the supporters. Theydon’t keep to themselves. I’m aPirates fan and will definitely rathergo watch them than Bafana”.
Mr Brilliant Mkhabela and Mr Whitty Matome said:“The continuous change of coaches and foreigncoaches are some of the problems. A coach is notgiven enough time. They don’t look hard enough forlocal coaches. Bafana has disappointed us so manytimes that many people don’t want to watch themanymore. Maybe this will change if they qualify for theAfcon. The build-up system is also not given enoughtime”.
Ms Lyvia Mokoena said: “Maybe itis because there are too manyplayers from opposition teamsplaying in Bafana. They have nolove for each other. I’m a Chiefssupporter, but I’ll choose theBafana game when they play”.
Mr Stephen Maile said: “Bafanaplays terrible. They took playerswith different types of games that iswhy they play like this and peopledon’t want to watch. If they canstart playing well, we’ll appreciateit”.
Mr Ben Madigage said: “It’sbecause they are losing so much. There is no hope for that team, butwe must encourage them. If theycan improve it, maybe people willsupport them again. I’d ratherwatch an Amakosi game”.
Ms Lilly Shabe said: “Many peopleare disappointed with them and arenow rather supporting rugby. Wecan only go back and support themif they improve. I’m a Kaizer Chiefsfan and will rather watch one oftheir games”.
Mr Tshepo Tjia and Mr Themba Mohubedu said: “They are too full ofpride. They don’t care about their country. They just care about themoney. We hate Bafana Bafana but we are behind our teams Chiefs andPirates”.
Regs: Me. Liezl Harmse sê: “Diemeeste van die tyd verloor hulle.Die rugby het darem al 2 keerbekers huis toe gebring, maar nieBafana nie”.
Mr Gert Pipolelo, Mr Justice Mogotho and Mr Noah Kgwetiene said: “TheBafana players are from other teams. People are jealous of the ball andthey don’t share the ball to win a game. They also don’t practice together. We hope they start winning now, because in the past, they’ve alwaysbeen losing. They never take anything. In any type of cup, they just lose!”
Mr Robert Moropane said: “Thecommunication is not good enough. They are always creating newteams for Bafana Bafana. That iswhy we don’t give Bafana muchsupport. I’m a Pirates fan”.
Mr Frans Matsepane said: “Bafanahas been losing for quite sometime. Now that we have a newcoach, maybe it will be different.Maybe the rhythm he set willcontinue and it will motivate thesupporters as well. I’m actually aMamelodi Sundowns fan”.
Me. Cindy Bruwer sê: “Ek dink ditis omdat die spanne sleg gekiesword”. By haar is Charlene.
Why is there so little support for Bafana Bafana?
