Mike Nartey is your friendlypharmacist at Pharmacy at Spar.

Stomach flushould be taken

seriously

Stomach flu or gastroenteritis is not the same as the flu (influ-enza) that goes around every winter. The real flu (influenza)affects the respiratory system like your nose, throat and lungsbut the stomach flu (gastoenteritis) attacks your intestines. Itcauses symptoms such as watery diarrhea, abdominal crampsand pain, nausea, vomiting, occasional muscle aches or head-ache and a low-grade fever.Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but in severe casescan persist up to 10 days. You should see a doctor if you arenot able to keep fluids down for 24 hours, if you have beenvomiting for more than 2 days, if you are vomiting blood, if younotice blood in your bowel movements or become dehydrated.Signs of dehydration include excessive thirst, dry mouth, deepyellow urine or little to no urine and sever weakness, dizzi-ness and lightheadedness. Especially children dehydratequickly and it is important to keep an eye on them and seekmedical help sooner than later. Over the counter medicines tohelp with hydration and binding the stomach is available. Askyour friendly pharmacist to help you find the right products.

‘I’m very much concerned about how risky is becoming daily and daily to drive in Burgersfortroads especially our R37 road which is becoming similar to deadly Moloto road. When I passed the town this week I was welcomed by cows crossing the busy road justnear Tubatse Crossing Mall and it came to my attention how this can put the life of the roadusers in danger. I think the road is too small to cover all the motorists in Tubatse howeverthat’s not the only problem. I urge the motorists to drive safely more especially the taxi men.Arrive Alive is not just a slogan is a lifetime message.”Calvin Selepe (Manoke Village)

The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality Cllr Mogobo DavidMagabe is horrified by the continuing horrific road accidents on the roads.

Last week 8 people lost their lives after a mortuary van collided with a minibustaxi between Jane Furse and Mamone village. At the time 11 people who arevictims of this accident were fighting for their lives in the new Jane FurseHospital.

Two weeks ago, on 19 July 2014, 8 people lost their lives at Leporogong areasituated at theR37 road between Atok and Lebowakgomo. This incidents are justfigures taken from the recent list of serious accidents reported across theSekhukhune District Municipality.

“We are perplexed and horrified by this unending number of serious acaccidentsreported on our roads daily. We are convinced that one life lost is one too many.We can only appeal to all our law enforcement agencies to redouble their effortsin order to spare lives. We equally appeal our people in particular motorist torespect the rules of the road at all times. We are worried that negligent drivinghas been the cause of all this major incidents” says Executive Mayor M.DMagabe.

“We urge members of the community to exercise restraint during this period ofmourning. And we send our sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Tothe injured persons, we wish them speedy recovery from everywhere they are.The department of Roads working together with Road Accident Fund will ensurethat government contribute to the send off of our fallen heroes. As the DistrictMunicipality, through our Councillors and CDWs, we will offer systematicassistance to affected families”

President Jacob Zuma has directed TheSpecial Investigating Unit (SIU) toinvestigate various issues related tomaladministration and alleged corruption invarious government departments andentities as well as the Greater TubatseMunicipality (GTM) and the Vhembe DistrictMunicipality. The team will amongst other things belooking into allegations of: “Seriousmaladministration in connection with theaffairs of the departments; Improper orunlawful conduct by employees of thedepartments; Unlawful appropriation orexpenditure of public money or property;Unlawful, irregular and unapprovedacquisitive act, transaction, measure orpractice having a bearing upon Stateproperty; Intentional or negligent loss ofpublic money or damage to public property;Alleged offences related to Chapter 2 of thePrevention and Combating of CorruptActivities Act, 2004 (Act. No. 12 of 2004),and unlawful or improper conduct by anyperson, which has caused or may causeserious harm to the interest of the public”.This week Platinum Gazette asked readershow they feel about the coming probe. Theirthoughts about GTM being one of themunicipalities to be investigated as well asthe outcomes they hope to see from theinvestigation.

Ms Constance Makhubedu and Ms Kgaogelo Hlahla said: “It is a good thing they will belooking into our municipality”. Ms Makhubedu said: “I think things will be better there in thefuture. They will sort everything out”. Ms Hlahla said: “I am not so sure about that”.

Mnr Sello Mopane sê: “Dis regtig, regtiggoed. Die mense wat Zuma stuur sal diemunisipaliteit uit-sort. Hierdie dorp is volgaatjies en ons karre kry punctures oppadwerk toe. Hulle moet ons paaie regmaak.Die munisipaliteit eet die geld. Onsmunisipaliteit is gekies vir die ondersoekomdat hier so baie korrupsie is. Die mensesal bly wees na die investigation. Ons het ‘nmooi munisipaliteit, maar die mense watdaar werk maak nie mooi nie. Lead byexample!”

Mr Arabia Mohlala said: “It is good. Wehave a problem with corruption and peopleare not doing their jobs properly. Ja, afterthe investigation things will be better. Theguilty ones must be fired!”

Me.

Mr Doctor Masinga said: “It is alright. Theymust investigate this municipality. We don’twant corruption. They must help people whoare poor with the budget and not let it gointo corrupt things. This team Zuma issending will sort things out. You rememberin the past they had people sorting outLebowakgomo? Whole departments wereinvestigated and the corruption was sortedout. The same will happen here”.

Mr Norman Magabe said: “I welcome theinvestigation, but the President must alsoclean his desk. Sure, his team will be ableto make a difference here”.

Mnr Enoch Mametja sê: “Dis goed dat Zumadit laat doen. Hier is so baie korrupsie – dishoekom ons munisipaliteit gekies is vir ‘nondersoek. Die mense sal sorg dat dingeweer beter gaan. Hulle is bang vir Zuma sohulle sal dinge kom uitsorteer”.

Right: Mr TE Mabelane said: “Yes, Iwelcome the investigation because thoseguys at the municipality are using money inthe wrong way. They only want to benefitthemselves and their families and they don’tcare about the community. I hope it will bebetter after the investigation”.

Left: Ms Marinkie Mashabela said: “Theymust investigate. You see our economy islike it is at the moment because governmentappoints comrades instead of competentand educated people. If they investigatehere, they will find irregularities. Criminal lawand justice must be applied. Justice to thepeople. If this team makes sure the rightpeople gets appointed, things will be better”.

Mr Joseph Malepe said: “There is a lot ofcorruption. The management is just eatingthe money while we are suffering. We live ina democracy but we drink water with theanimals. It is good President Jacob Zuma isdoing this. This team will make a difference”.

Ms Eugenia Mathaba said: “It is not going tomake a difference if this special unitinvestigate the municipality. They’ve beentrying to root out corruption and it is just notworking. The procedures they use are justnot working”.

Me. Hulle moet sommer tronktoe gaan as dit nodig is. Ek nie baie positiefdat alles uiteindelik beter sal wees nie. Diekans is seker goed dat almal skotvrydaarvan gaan wegstap. ‘n Mens hoor altydvan die investigations en dan 2 of 3 maandelater is die persone wat ondersoek is, weerterug”.

Mr Dumisa Madalane said: “I welcome theSpecial Investigation Unit (SIU). They mustcome and investigate the municipality. WhatI don’t welcome is the way the Hawks camehere and just picked at a few people. TheSIU will be fair and investigate everyone. Iam not defending corruption and I don’tsupport corruption. I just want people to befair. Don’t just single out people. The SIUwill work fairly without fear and favour. Idon’t support the Hawks who came for justtwo people”.

Mr Thato Moloto said: “This is a good thing. We’ve got a lot of corruption here at ourmunicipality. This special investigation willhelp us get service delivery at Tubatse. Hereat Tubatse we have big, big corruption, thatis why Zuma picked us to be investigated”.

Mr Lawrence Nemakonde said: “Ja, it canonly help. You don’t know, often thesepeople just investigate but nothing happens. You hear of this commission of enquiry andthat investigation team, but the corruptionoften just continue. Perhaps they chose usat random because I’ve seen more corruptmunicipalities”.

Mr Sydney Mashego and Ms Irene Lesese said: “It is true that there is a lot of corruptionhere, but they must not only investigate in Burgersfort, they must look at the wholeLimpopo. It is full of corruption. This team has pressure from the top so they will definitelysort things out”.

Links: Mnr.
