EX Unitra Community Radio board mem-ber, Pasika Nontshiza, accused of assaultingthe station’s current board’s secretary, pleaded not guilty to the charge against himon Thursday.

Pasika appeared in the Mthatha Magis-trates’ Court on accusations of assaultingZandise Gwele with the intention of causing

grievous bodily harm in April this year.According to the complainant, Zandise,

the ex-board member allegedly assaultedhim in his King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD)municipal offices due to political differenceswhen Zandise went to see Pasika’s personalassistant.

“I went into Pasika Nontshiza’s office onlybecause I had an appointment with his per-sonal assistant who then told me to wait forher in her office, and that was when he as-

saulted me.”“He started by banging my head against

the wall several times, pushed me down andstamped on me while I was lying on thefloor,” Zandise told the court.

However, the accused’s legal representa-tive, Bongani Magoxo of Mpendulo StoyileAttorneys, told the court that there was ‘badblood’ between the accused and the com-plainant over UCR administration.

He said the proof for this was a trail of mes-

sages Zandise had posted on social media. He read the messages out loud to the court.

After the name of Pasika’s then-personalassistant came up several times during thetrial, it was ruled that it would be only fairif the personal assistant was called as a wit-ness thus leading to the postponement of thetrial. The continuation of the trial has beenset down for October 29.

Some former station employees came tosupport Pasika during the trial.

NOKHWEZI MTANGAYI AND NOKU-LUNGA NTAPANE

IN our societies it was believed that disci-plining a child had to entail physical pun-ishment. It was known and trusted as theonly way to teach a child how to behave, and to discipline a child to be a responsibleadult.

Parents, and sometimes educators, de-fend this kind of punishment, saying thatit worked for them and they were not hurtby the punishment.

On the other hand, it has been discov-ered that children who grow up in homeswhere hitting takes place, may learn to ac-cept it and in the process of growing, theylink love with violence.

As a result of this practice, numerousnumbers of children had fled their homesor schools to join street gangs.

Having learnt from these situations, new ways of disciplining children havebeen adopted.

Positive discipline has been proven tobe an effective way of rearing a child. Thispractice is not only a South African ten-dency, it is used by many countriesaround the world.

It aims to develop a child’s self disci-

pline and teaches him/her to focus on so-lutions rather than problems.

Positive discipline does not mean let-ting children do as they please. Parentshave to set boundaries and rules to let chil-dren know where they stand.

One of the practices of positive disci-pline is to focus on POSITIVES where“do’s” work more than “don’ts,” thismeans, teaching children what theyshould do, rather than teaching them whatthey shouldn’t do.

Children need to be praised for good be-haviour and carefully listen when they arecorrected.

Parents and educators need to be rolemodels to the children. Children learnmore from what they experience thanfrom what they are told.

Adults must appreciate and encouragechildren to develop self esteem and selfconfidence.

We are tirelessly going out there to edu-cate communities and to encourage posi-tive discipline. Children growing up in ahealthy environment have the potential tobecome healthy adults. Let us be role mod-els by emphasizing the positive aspects inour children.

The visit which took place last Wednes-day, was a follow-up visit to check whetherthose who were found to be non-complianthad rectified the problems identified by theNHBRC in August.Nombasa Ngoqo, NHBRC Provincial

DEMOCRATIC Alliance member of parlia-ment in the Eastern Cape, Edmund van Vu-uren, said they wish the matriculants suc-cess and believe that they will represent theEastern Cape well.

“There have been numerous demotivat-ing situations that some of these pupils havebeen faced with this year, including thosethathavehad severe teacher shortageswith-in their schools, often resulting in over-crowded classrooms,” he said.He said unpleasant learning environ-

ments – including dilapidated school build-

ings, little to no school furniture and a short-age of classrooms – should not discouragelearners to do their best.“Despite all of the dispiriting conditions

under which some of our pupils have had tostudy this year, we believe and trust in theirabilities to achieve outstanding results,” hesaid.

The DA further commended all of the edu-cators in the Eastern Cape for their hardwork and dedication to the learners.“With a few days left until their final ex-

aminations, we urge the grade 12 class of2014 towork hard, burn themidnight oil andmake their parents or guardians proud. Webelieve in you.”

This Doc has been going on for the pastthree months now. Honestly Dr Love, I’m notcomfortable at all with this and I find it verydifficult to cope, with allmy friends tellingmethat I’m sick or even suggesting that I’m evenblind not to say yes to this guy.Lastly my friends and my colleagues even

go as far as saying that this guy may not beinterested in waiting around any longer. DrLove do you think that, I’m crazy?

Amy, firstly thank you very much for join-ing us on Couch this week with Dr Love.I understand clearly the position that you

are in and I can also assure you that a lot ofpeople in our days find it very difficult to besurewhether someone is being truthful or notabout issues of love and relationships.Secondly, I don’t think you are sick or crazy

at all. I take you as very cautious and that is

highly recommendable to anyone thinking ofgetting into any relationship. There is nothing wrong with taking all the

time in the world to ensure that you reallydon’t say yes to this guy, because of all thepressure that you have been put under.Youneed to ownyour decision of saying yes

to this guy so that you could easily own anyfall out that could come about as a result ofbeing in a relationship with him. This is yourresponsibility and yours alone.Lastly, PleaseAmy, feel free to reallyunder-

stand the person in question and also give

yourself time in ensuring that this truly andtruly feels right to you in full.If up until now, it’s not that clear then you

need to understand that, it’s not right. My last word to you is to stop worrying

yourself about the issue of him leaving youbecause you have not made up your mind, ifhe leaves thenyoumust know it for a fact that,he was never yours.

Perhaps things have changed qha thina si-sashiywa ngumlevo.

Thina, we grew up where kwakuthi xa ku-qhamka i-polisa sibufihle utywala ingakumbixa besihamba estratweni, kuba sasisazi uku-ba yinto ekungalungangaukuba iselwe eluba-la or public ngabula makhumsha. But esikubone next to Ngaru police station

eUTA, noko kuye kwasishiya simangazekile.Kanti bekusenzeka ntoni?Just next to the gate to the police station,

there were people who were enjoying them-selves with a case of beers.Bengasanxile u-worse lo ebengumama os-

MAMAMIABROUGHTPEACE IN

MYBROKENUPFAMILYFor many years I suffered a lot in my marriage. I had daily fights with my husband and had no peace becauseof my jealous family, friends and my in-laws also hated me. I felt betrayed and heartbroken by my own people.

Sleepless nights and stress nearly killed me. I tried many healers, but they all failed to help me, until I heardabout Mama Mia on a spiritual on the radio. With the only R100 I had in life, Mama Mia took my fortunereadings and surprised me by telling me accurately about my husbands hidden family secrets. She then madespecial prayers and gave me powerful herbal Indian Holy Water for cleansing and a special oil. Within just afew days a miracle happened: all my enemies and family in-laws who hated me came back to make peacewith. After suffering 20 painful years, today we are the happiest couple and I am also grateful because ofMama Mia.

Her special prayers of blessings has made me became a successful business lady.
