The guest house is situated in the north west corner of the property west of the main house. The goals were to keep the building out of the main house’s view, while still allowing passage to the barn in the back. The three existing trees drove the design of the form and resulted in different
courtyard spaces; private entrance and studio courtyard, bedroom courtyard, and public patio courtyard. Along with the guest house addition, Conor and I were asked to design the backyard hardscape, pool and spa, fireplace, and landscape. The pattern of small rectangular

R311.3 Floors and landings at exterior doors.
There shall be a landing or floor on each side of each exterior door.The width of each landing shall not be less than the door served.Every landing shall have a minimum dimension of 36 inches(914 mm) measured in the direction of travel. Exterior landingsshall be permitted to have a slope not to exceed 1/4 unit verticalin 12 units horizontal (2-percent).
R302.5.1 (Amended) Opening protection.
Openings from a private garage directly into a room used forsleeping purposes shall not be permitted. Other openings betweenthe garage and residence shall be equipped with solid wooddoors, paneled or non-paneled, not less than 1-3/8 inches (35 mm)in thickness, solid or honeycomb-core steel doors not less than1-3/8 inches (35 mm) thick, or 20-minute fire-rated doors, equippedwith a self-closing and self-latching device.

hardscape pieces provides direct access to the different elements of the property and drainage betwen elements, while not covering the property with a large concrete slab. My responsabilities were program organization, design development, and construction administration for the house
and backyard. We used Revit to create the construction documents and the grade elevation for the property. The project is currently under construction.

The Phoenix Country Day School Arts and Science interior renovation included a rework of the program layout and organization and an upgrade on equipment and materials. My role consisted of creating design develoment and construction documents, presentation material,
and schedules using revit. I was responsible for communication with consultant engineers and furniture design representatives. The following three pages are examples from the submitted construction documents that I produced.

Solar and Contextual Impact: Coor Hall’s elevations face two different communities that need a collective response and transition space. To shade Coor Hall, either horizontal or vertical shade louvers need to be applied. Two different systems creates an unresolved transition at corners.

Programatic Impact: The group and individual spaces that line the exterior of each floorplate need different solar responses. The program determines the need for shade or the opportunity for more light. In addition within each floor different sections require more or less shade.

22 Coor Architonic
The analytic from the southeast corner demonstrates Coor’s change from a closed object to a dynamic system both inside and outside. Instead of a grid of drywall, the furniture of Coor becomes the architecture. The office bookshelves divide each offices creating a rhythm throughout the floor
while the assistant desks become the exterior walls. The office desks and chairs are movable to allow for individual customization and facilitates movement to other parts of the floor. Professors can meet with their students in the open collaborative spaces.

Interior view walking through the south hallway of the fourth floor at noon during the fall. The shade system allows for a patterned light to enter the building while the interior walls and shelves undulate in a similar manner as the exterior fins.

It is important for architects to stay involved with the urban issues surrounding the cities they design for. This Could Be PHX is a community engagement and urban awareness group that focuses on the potential for downtown Phoenix. My involvement included working on an “Envision
Project” for 1st Street. This includes collecting site analysis, case study data for similiar streets in other cities, drawings, and renders. The purpose is to show the potential from the improvement of the street.

From this research, we worked together with other local organizations to plan a “Better Block Event.” As part of a national effort, Better Block Events aim to create activity on a particular day to activate a street. This is done through pop-up yoga classes, local artist and craft stands, food trucks,
and community group information booths. The event demonstrates the potentional of the street if all the empty lots and vacant buildings were occupied by such shops and restaurants.

I love experimenting with laser cutting wood because it combines precision with natural beauty. My designs embody a juxtaposition of rigorous geometry and organic movement.

Initiated because of harsh dorm lighting, this light produced variety and relief. This gave me greater insight into the power of adaptable architecture.
