INSIDE This Issue It’s Gonna Be Great In the summer of 2002, I was busy preparing to become a student at Campbell University. All these big plans for my life would finally come to fruition as I began my time as a college student, something I had wanted for myself as long as I could remember. Going to college would be an experience that would shape me into who I would become, into the pharmacist I dreamed of being. Wait…what? Yep, I went into my freshman year at Campbell as a new Pre-Pharm major, focused on all the science courses I would take and thinking about all the money I would eventually make. This venture would be an extension of what I had already done as a high school student, the next step towards preparing me for a career that would bring in the big bucks. Boy, was I wrong. Into my first semester as a college student, I quickly found out that I didn’t enjoy it quite like I had figured; studying 8 hours a night for subjects I just couldn’t seem to retain. It didn’t provide me with any sense of fulfillment and joy. I had many friends who went on in the program and love what they do. It brings them that satisfaction and fulfillment I thought it would bring me. In that experience, I discovered a life lesson surely provided by the creator who had different plans for my life than what I had once figured. To me, the next step was just an extension, a continuation of a process begun long ago. More of the same. Or so I thought. Of course, you can figure out the rest of the story. I am a pastor, after all. Sometimes, in the midst of thinking we’re doing what we need to in order to get by, God can show us a completely new path, if we’re paying attention. Things can stay like they are and we’ll just keep going like we always have. The problem therein is that we can be traveling along and suddenly realize we’ve been on a road that might not lead us in the direction we’d hoped for initially. It might be different and it might be…great. With a new church year now arrived, it’s easy for us to think this will simply be more of the same, a continuation of the way things have been for years. So long as we keep pace and treat it as just another extension of our church life, things will be alright because we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing. Eventually, hopefully, it will lead us somewhere. However, maybe this year God is attempting to show us something brand new, something we may never have thought possible in years past. This year, maybe God is in the process of revealing to us something great that provides some rejuvenation to otherwise overworked bodies, minds, and souls. My experience with school shaped me in many ways, but one of the most important was revealing to me that when I think everything is figured out, God might have something different in mind. Here, at the beginning of a new church year, we have the chance to once again look down the road and determine where we would like to be, the goals we’d like to accomplish, how we’d like to see the course laid out. To some, it might mean more of the same. For others, it might mean taking an altogether different approach, trying something brand new for the first time. You might be resuming a job you’ve enjoyed for years on end, and my hope is that God would continue to bless you with a vibrant ministry. You might be trying something out for the very first time, and again my hope is that God would provide for you a vibrant ministry. It might be unexpected. It might not look the same. INSIDE This Issue

It’s Gonna Be Great

In the summer of 2002, I was busy preparing to become a student at Campbell University.

It might be different.

It might be great. —Trent Sessoms

Fall Senior Adult Rally

Deacons

We look forward to having Christie Hatch, David Hinton, Monique Mackey, Bill Scanlon and Stephen Tew serve as the deacon class of 2015.

A special thank you to Robin Farrington, Korey Hatch, Billy Murray and Jean Raybon for serving a three year term and Sam Maise for serving a one year term as deacon.

We also thank everyone who agreed to have their name placed on the deacon ballot.

Homecoming Offering

• Purchase new church software package This is needed to upgrade our technology and assist staff in providing existing and new services.

• Purchase new branch and

leaves for the church “Giving Tree” No additional space is available on the Giving Tree to recognize and honor contributors to the FLC.

• Purchase additional tables

and chairs for the Fellowship Hall We currently have 8 new tables with chairs and this is not adequate to host lunches, receptions, etc.

Be in prayer about this special

A special offering will be received on Homecoming that is in addition to our regular monthly/weekly tithes and offerings. The Diaconate has designated five different items that are all needs of our church to apply this years’ special offering to. • Refinish FLC hardwood floor

This floor requires regular maintenance to maintain its beauty and to protect the hardwood.

• Refinish floors in the

Education Building This building has been drastically updated and is beautiful but the lower and upper hall and bath floors need work.

offering as our current budget offering will not

support any projects and these projects are true needs of our church. Also be in prayer about our current weekly/monthly budget tithes and offerings as they are not meeting our budget requirements. God has richly blessed us in leading our church to call such a qualified and dedicated staff of pastors in Rev. Sessoms, Rev. Roach and Rev. Johnston to lead us. It is time for each of us to examine our personal relationship with God and if we are following his command in the giving of our tithes and offerings to Him. May God richly bless you and our church. Philip Humphries Deacon Chair

The menu is: Barbecue Chicken, Boiled Potatoes, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Rolls, Dessert, Tea/Water. Sign up sheets are in your Sunday School classroom.
