Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 10, 2019 GOD’S SUMMONS Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips,” he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus’ instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah answered, “Here I am, send me.” We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won’t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? What will it take for you to bring to dock what is unimportant and to accept your call to be God’s messenger? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

GOD’S SUMMONS Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. S. Paluch Co.

Question of the Week For this weekend February 10 – 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time 7 Stretching Our Limits Simon Peter fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” (Lk. 5:8, 10b) When have you felt inadequate to a task or role you were given? How did you respond?

For next weekend February 17 – 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time Reaching Out to Others Then he looked up at his disciples and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." (Lk. 6:20) In what way are you serving the poor, as Jesus did?

Catholic Services Appeal In response to the Gospel call to serve the poor and spread the Good News, the Catholic Ser-vices Appeal Foundation of the Saint Paul and Minneapolis Area (CSAF) works as Christ’s hands and feet throughout the 12-county area. An independent non-profit organization, CSAF partners with 20 varied out-reach ministries, thousands of individual donors, and over 185 Catholic parishes to serve the poor, support life, and strengthen the Catholic faith. We invite you to learn more about each of the vital ministries supported by the Foundation, and to join us in transforming lives through the Gospel! Visit www.csafspm.org to learn more, and please prayerfully consider how you might give back via the CSAF.

Bringing Up the Gifts We encourage people to participate in our weekend liturgies by carrying our offerings of money, bread, and wine to the altar. We especially encourage young families to do this as a way of engaging our young people. Please sign up in the binder on the credenza in back of church for any open weekend Mass you will be attending. When you come to church, check your name off so the usher knows you are present and go to the back of church when the collection is being taken. The usher will in-struct you if needed.
