FEELING A POSSIBLE CALL TO THE SERVICES OF DEACON? As the Church of Monterey continues to grow, our needs for the ministry

of service continue to grow by leaps and bounds. The Deacon’s ministry

is threefold: to the service of Charity/Justice; service of the Word; and

service of the Liturgy. The Deacon is called to be a symbol of that

service to which all God’s People are called and indeed is to be an

animator of lay ministry. Deacons are serving the poor in many locations

(Food Banks, Homeless Shelters, advocacy work), service to the

incarcerated, the sick and dying, migrants, those struggling with

addictions, victims of violence, etc. They bring those experiences to their

ministries of Word (preaching, teaching) and Liturgical service:

presiding at Baptisms, Weddings, Funeral Vigils and Committals, and

assisting at Sunday Eucharist. To learn more about the life and ministry

of a Deacon in the Church, there will be information sessions held

around the diocese (dates, times, locations listed below). They are

offered for those who want to explore a possible call to this ordained

ministry. It is recommended that married men who are interested also

bring their wives with them as it is her journey of discernment as well.

Annual Diocesan Retreat at St. Francis Retreat Center in San

SECOND COLLECTION FOR NEXT WEEK: The Capuchin Franciscan Missionaries work in the mountain regions of Northern

Mexico in the states of Sonora, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon and Durango in the

Dioceses of Ciudad Obregón, Cuauhtemoc-Madera, Monterrey and Durango. They minister to four indigenous tribes in the area of Yécora, Sonora:

the Pimas, the Yaquis, the Mayos and the Guarajíos. They have been serving the

people of the area since 1985. The missionaries have received many native vocations and have established a Postulancy House in Durango in the

Archdiocesis of Durango, a Capuchin Novitiate in Tres Ojitos, Chihuahua in the

Diocese of Cuauhtemoc-Madera and have built a house of studies for Capuchin seminarians in Ciudad Benito Juarez, Nuevo Leon in the Archdiocese of

Monterrey. They have 30 young men in various stages of Capuchin Franciscan

formation. The second collection this weekend will be taken up to help the missions in northern Mexico. Thank you for your generosity to the missions.

Taller de Formación II

El Católico, la Tradición y la Sagrada Escritura. Presenta una visión global de las

enseñanzas de la Iglesia sobre interpretación de la Sagrada Escritura e involucra a

los participantes para que la lean, interpreten y oren desde la perspectiva católica. PUBLICO: Equipo Parroquial de ¿Por que ser católico?, animadores de las

PCEs, todo adulto interesado. Fecha: Lunes 24 de septiembre de las 6:30 a las

8:30 p.m. en la iglesia Nuestra Señora de Soledad en la ciudad de Soledad.

SEGUNDA COLECTA PARA LA PRÓXIMA SEMANA: Los Misioneros Franciscanos Capuchinos trabajan en la sierra del norte de

México en los estados de Sonora, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon y Durango en las Diócesis de Ciudad Obregón, Cuauhtémoc-Madera, Durango y Monterrey. En la

sierra cerca de Yécora, Sonora sirven a cuarto grupos indígenas: los Pimas, los

Yaquis, los Mayos y los Guarajíos. Los Capuchinos han estado en la sierra desde 1985. Han recibido muchas vocaciones de la región y han establecido un

postulantado en Durango en la Arquidiócesis de Durango, un noviciado en Tres

Ojitos, Chihuahua en la Diócesis de Cuauhtémoc-Madera y una casa de formación para seminaristas Capuchinos en Ciudad Benito Juárez, Nuevo Leon

en la Arquidiócesis de Monterrey. Tienen 30 jóvenes en varias etapas de

formación Capuchina. La segunda colecta este fin de semana será para ayudar a las misiones en el norte de México. Gracias por su generosidad a las misiones.

ESCUCHANDO Y RESPONDIENDO

En las lecturas de hoy se entrecruzan tres

temas: escuchar a Dios, la fe vs. las buenas

obras y perder nuestra vida para poder salvarla.

¿De qué manera están relacionados estos

temas? En Isaías, el Siervo Sufriente padece

muchos disgustos y burlas, pero puede

soportarlos porque ha escuchado los mensajes

de Dios día tras día. El salmo nos dice que Dios

también escucha. Dios escucha nuestras

súplicas y siempre está dispuesto a salvarnos.

Cuando nuestra fe se profundiza, también se

profundiza nuestro deseo de hacer obras de

justicia y caridad que fortalecen el Reino de

Dios. Dios guía nuestras acciones de maneras

que muchas veces no podemos ver y no

siempre vemos los resultados. Se nos llama en

fe a confiar en que lo que hacemos es suficiente

y que nuestra disposición a escuchar los

mensajes de Dios nos guiará por el camino

correcto.

SAN MIGUEL ARCANGEL : “San Miguel Arcángel, defiéndenos en la batalla. Se nuestro

amparo contra la perversidad , y asechanzas del demonio.

Reprímale Dios, pedimos suplicantes, y tu príncipe de la Milicia

Celestial, arroja al infierno con el divino poder a Satanás y a los

otros espíritus malignos que andan dispersos por el mundo para la

perdición de las almas. Amen.”
