SUNDAY MASS TIMES:- *ST IGNATIUS Toowong Saturday 6.00pm (Vigil); Sunday 7.00am & 5.00pm. Reconciliation: Saturday from 5.15pm to 5.45pm, or by appointment.

The Gospel teaches the need to be free from the claim of possessions. What is to be treasured is the gift of

the kingdom. This alone is imperishable; this alone can claim our heart’s full allegiance. These sayings lead into warnings about the importance of vigilance. Just as servants need to be always ready for their master’s return, so must disciples be ready for the return of their Lord. What Luke has put together here has an ’end-time’ feel about it. In fact his material has parallels with what Matthew and Mark but only Luke has the heart-warming image of the master reversing rôles to wait on his servants when he finds them alert on his return. We start this Sunday the retreat for the whole Parish. A retreat using the FIRST SPIRITUAL EXERCISES of St Ignatius Loyola (1491—1556) & adapted by Mi-chael Hansen (1951 — ). Fr John Reilly sj will give direction at the homily’s of all 4 Masses during August (Sundays August 14, 21 & 28) and concluding Sunday 4 September. This retreat is offered by Jesuits at Toowong & Faber CIS to the parish as part of the celebrations of 100 years of Jesuit presence in Toowong. Retreat commitment is four weeks, with 25-40 min’s of prayer four days a week, preferably Monday—Thursday. This is followed by the Sunday Eucharist and its weekend exercise. It adds up to about 22 days. While this is a serious commitment, and a time of grace, please consider making this commitment during the month of August. - Fr John Reilly sj.

RECESSIONAL HYMN: From Penola’s Plains Michael Herry fms

Loving God, we give you thanks this day as gladly we rejoice, that a woman’s life should so proclaim a love that heard your voice. Now inspired by her example, may we strive to seek your face, so that in our rugged homeland the poor will find a place. Here with Mary of the Cross we pray your truth may guide our way, that our open hearts may hear your call to follow you each day.

Let our praise now fill this joyful space as loudly we proclaim

that in Mary’s life we see the faith that glorifies your name. For her heart knew your compassion at the plight of children poor. So she mustered all her courage and saw her future call. Trusting firm in you she ventured forth, her eyes upon your cross. From Penola’s plains to all the world, her arms reached out in love.

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.
