Owe go into our new year and it is going to be fabulous! Our class sizes range from 30 students in 6th grade to 45 students in 7th grade. This years senior class has 36 students, 12 girls and 24 guys. The softball and volleyball teams are already competing and cross country, cheer and football are preparing for their season. The STUCO is planning a HS Fun Day on Wednesday, 20th. The students spend time together at a local park and water park. The MS students, MS teachers and STUCO head to Boiling Springs in Mooreland, OK for an overnight outing on August 28-29. These outings prove to be a good time to build connections among the students and give them an opportunity to get to know their teachers better as well. And there are always a few stories that become lasting memories, often involving stickers in the grass at Boiling Springs or some of the unique games that they play. Thank you for your continued prayers for God’s grace and favor upon our year.

E-News Letter August 20, 2014

Insights from our Faculty !I am glad that school has started again. I love teaching and seeing young people succeed. I am very grateful to be at a place like OBA where parents and the staff can openly let God lead them in helping them grow the OBA students. This place is unique, not the norm. !

This year I am excited to teach a new Senior American History class. It is titled Modern History: 1945 to Present. We will cover things like the Cold War, Globalization, and the Civil Rights Movement. This class excites me because it is the recent history of America. Our students need to know our recent past so they can understand the events of today better. I believe that this class will stretch our seniors because we will cover some very delicate and politically charged events. But I believe this help

them make their beliefs concrete.!

I believe that God has big plans for this school year. Four years ago I was the youngest and newest member on the OBA staff. After a number of veteran teacher retirements, I have quickly left behind the youngest teacher label. Our staff is very balanced. I still have many mentors at OBA (they used to be my teachers!!!), but I believe God has brought the new staff members to OBA for a reason. !

Thank you, parents, for allowing me to teach your children. They are great kids. They come to class with a willingness to learn and they make teaching a joy. As we go through the year please pray for strength to teach what is right, endurance to continue when fatigued, patience when we run out of it, and wisdom to know how and what to teach this school year. —- Alan Ford!

I have been welcomed so warmly back into the OBA community. Thank you for making me feel known and valued, first as a student and now as a faculty member! I am thrilled as we begin the 2014-15 school year. I feel certain that God has been preparing and equipping me in several ways to serve himself and his people at OBA. I am really looking forward to implementing my training from the AP English conference I was able to attend in June. Words cannot describe how worthwhile those days were to me. !

I have been meditating on Psalm 25 since early in the summer and join with David in his prayer, “Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long” (Ps. 25:4-5). God was, is, and will remain to be the only TRUE and good teacher. Without the Holy Spirit’s outpouring in my life, my teaching will be eternally ineffective! I am so thankful for this knowledge as I start a new year at OBA and thankful for a student body, faculty mentors, and broader school community that reminds me of this truth consistently! —- Addie Zander
