October is going to be an outstanding month. We are off

to a pretty good start with our “Finish the Task” financial

campaign. However, there are many classes that have not

yet been informed of how they can be involved. Bible

Study teachers, we are counting on you or someone in

your class to communicate the program to your class

members. God has blessed us with the new facility and

now it is our turn to bless Him with 100% participation

with our offerings.

“Amazing Love Sunday” is scheduled for October

12th. Junior Hill is one of God’s most gifted evangelists.

When he leaves our church you will say, “That was the

most loving preacher I have ever heard.” Whenever he

preaches, God reaches from Heaven and saves the lives

of so many dear people. We will start the day with high

attendance in Bible Study, make sure every member is

present and brings a guest. Junior Hill will preach in the

morning service, and we are praying that hearts will be

touched and changed for the Savior. At 5:00 p.m., we are

planning our annual Taylor Gating. Bible Study classes

and the Children and Youth Departments are going to

have a great time eating and fellowshipping together

as we tail gate until 6:15 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., we will have

an awesome Evening Worship Service with Junior Hill

preaching once again. This is going to be a day of fun; but

most importantly we are praying for Spiritual Renewal in

all hearts. The music all day is going to be outstanding

and truly it will be a day of “Amazing Love!” Do not miss

hearing Michael Jones as he sings, “I Bowed on My Knees.”

Please look carefully on the age group pages of this

Archway for information about

Charlotte’s Web, the Student Concert, and of course

Taylor Road Treats the Town! This is going to be a great

month, and don’t forget this is the month that the moon

turns into a football, as if you needed the reminder.

Jola and Laura. Yes they are names, but for me, they are

new friends. From June 23-July 8, I had the incredible

opportunity to return to Katowice, Poland to be part of a

mission trip with Josiah Venture involving a volleyball/

English camp. Josiah Venture’s mission is equipping young

leaders in Eastern Europe to fulfill Christ’s commission and

they are presently in 11 former communist countries. For

me personally, Poland has stolen my heart.

During the summer months, these camps are offered in

several locations throughout Poland. Many of the Polish

youth sign up to attend because learning English, or

becoming more fluent in the language, is necessary if they

want to “better” their lives. Our Katowice camp was a

pioneer in bringing in the venue of volleyball to offer to the

Poles which is why I have gone these past two summers.

Because volleyball is huge in Poland, our numbers were

very high this year with 38 signed up for volleyball alone.

There were 30+ signed up for English.

Another area of opportunity to serve the Poles is in the area

of construction and renovations. JV Poland is in the midst

of renovating and bringing up to European code a large

“camp” facility, H20, that will be used for outreach, training

leaders and pastors, future camps, etc. There have been

several groups from the states, Canada, and Poland to come

work at the facility but there is much work yet to be done.

One word that describes the Poles as a whole is

hopelessness. Perhaps it originated because they were

behind the Iron Curtain for all those years but even now

in the freedom they have, they still appear to lack hope.

Overall, they are a warm-hearted people relationally, but

hard-hearted in the spiritual realm. They need Jesus Christ

who is our eternal hope!

I am thankful for the opportunity to go and serve them and it

is my prayer that others will be called to GO and serve these

beautiful people as well.

Self Defense ClassBeginning October 19

meets @ 5:30 p.m.Facilitated by Holly Faems

You should NOT need to be a trained martial artist to be able

to protect yourself. This seminar is a practical approach to

safety. First, how not to become a victim; and second, simple

and concise advice on the parts of the anatomy that make a

great target and the parts that make a great weapon. There

are no complex “take downs”, “holds”, “arm-bars”, “pressure

points” or other methods that require repeated practice to

perfect. This is simply practical tips on how to avoid conflict if

possible, and how to get out of it, if necessary. The goal is not

to use force, just get away. However, difficult situations will be

addressed and discussed so the time of need is not the time to

consider the repercussions.

Junior Hill began his ministry at age nineteen and served as a pastor for eleven years in Alabama and Mississippi before entering vocational evangelism in 1967 as a full-time Southern Baptist evangelist.

A native of Hartselle, Alabama, he re-ceived his BS degree from Samford Univer-sity, Birmingham, Alabama and his Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans, Loui-siana. He received the Doctor of Divinity degree from Liberty University, Lynchburg,

Virginia.

He has served as First Vice-President of the Southern Baptist Convention and in 1995 was recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus Of The Year by New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He has conducted over 1600 revivals and numerous foreign crusades. In addition he is a frequent speaker at pastors’ meetings, evangelism conferences, seminaries and state conventions across the country.

SMALL GROUPS

Our small group Bible studies take place every Sunday Morning

at 9:09 a.m. If you want to go deeper in you journey with God

and grow in community with other students, it is essential that you become an active participant

in a small group.

Do You Wish You Had Studied Music When You Were a Child?

Many of us took piano lessons when we were young, and after a brief period of time we begged to quit. Now,

we say, “I wish I had kept taking piano lessons”. Well, on the same note, your children have a wonderful op-

portunity to be involved in children’s choir each Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. They can learn about the fun-

damentals of music while singing and working on the Christmas musical. The directors are some of the finest

musicians who attend our church. Wouldn’t you like to take voice lessons for free from Michael Jones or Cindy

Smith? Well, essentially, that’s what your kids can do if they just become a part of children’s choir each Sunday

at 5:30 p.m. Please have your kids start this Sunday, or contact one of the following for more information:

Pre-School Melanie Fore1-3 Grade Michael Jones 4-6 Grade Cindy Smith

Get involved. You’ll be blessed.

Are There Bells Ringing in Your Head?

If you are wandering around the church on Sunday after-noons and you are hearing bells, you may be:

• Crazy• In need of some regular exercise• Hearing our Handbell Choir practice

Yes, the Handbells are back. If you read music even a little, you might want to consider being a part of the Handbell Choir. The Handbell Choir meets on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. If you are interested in more information, please see Linda

Holladay or call her at 244-7282.

You Now Have A Choice How To Receive Archways!

Beginning with the November edition of Archways you will have the option to receive Archways via email versus standard mail.

Taylor Road began printing Archways in house in April 2008 and doubled the amount of content to 8 pages along with still saving approximately 20 cents a copy off the cost of the printing company. The Bulletin and all other publications and mail pieces are also printed in house now saving Taylor Road even more money. While this savings is great, we want to continue to be good stewards of the money God has given us. Some people may not be comfortable with receiving Archways via email, and for you we definitely want you to get the print version. But if you would like to help to continue to save more money all you would need to do is email - [email protected]. When you email make sure to include your name along with all email addresses that you would like added onto the monthly email list. Another benefit of this method is that you will receive Archways sooner than everyone else and will be the first to hear what is happening next month or to read a story about what is going on around the church!

Again the email address to contact is - [email protected]. Include your name, and all email addresses for you and your family that you would like a copy of Archways emailed to.

Finish the TaskAs a student ministry we are challenging every student to not have a soda or

coffee each week and give at least one dollar every Sunday Morning for the next

three years. If we can do that we will help finish the task of paying for the New

Facility by raising $11,000. Parents please encourage your students begin now by

being generous by expanding the Kingdom of God!

NARNIA December 19th will be a great night for musical theatre here at Taylor Road. The musical Narnia is very special in

the way that it captures the childlike faith needed to become a Christian. The wonder and majesty of the story is a

beautiful picture of Christ’s love for the church. We still have many spots available for you to participate. If you are

talented in organizing, cooking, decorating, sewing, building, painting, advertising/marketing, or anything else, there is a

spot for you. This show will raise money for the building fund, so please get involved! Call Ruth Givens at 462-4894 if

you are interested.

Taylor Road “Treats the Town” will be on Friday, October 31 from 6-8pm. This is an opportunity for our church to

reach out to the community by providing a “safe place” for the children and families. Each Sunday School class will

sponsor a booth. We will have inflatables, food, games and treat street. If the shopping centers and malls can use this

holiday to draw shoppers, the church can provide a “safe place” for parents to take their kids.

When you say the word “Halloween” to Christians today, you are likely to get a strong reaction. The holiday’s

growing emphasis on the occult and macabre has turned Halloween into a controversial topic within Christian

circles. On the other hand, thanks to retailers and Hollywood, each year the Halloween holiday seems to grow overall

in popularity and prominence within our culture. We are not the only ones concerned about this—the once fun-

filled holiday. Over the years, the crimes associated with the celebration of Halloween have increased. Today law

enforcement officials and medical authorities all recommend a great deal of caution when sending children out on

Halloween.

As a church, we do not need to be afraid of Halloween. Instead of ignoring the holiday, we want to use the popularity

and buzz around Halloween as an opportunity to shine God’s light into the holiday’s darkness! As stated in Romans

12:21, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
