“The Forgotten Carols” musical will arrive at Taylor Road Baptist Church on December 14 at 7:00 p.m. “We are bringing this event because we believe the message of this musical will strike a chord” with our audiences says Michael Young. An artistic hit on the West Coast for 20 years, the musical comes to Montgomery as part of the 2011 Inaugural Southeastern Tour!

“The Forgotten Carols” is the heartwarming tale of a nurse, Connie Lou, whose empty life is changed when a patient recounts the Christmas story as told by little-known characters in the nativity story he claims to have met personally! Her elderly patient, John, helps her !nd the hope and promise of Christmas and through them, audiences everywhere leave with the hope of keeping the message alive throughout the year.

“We will have local choir members from churches participating. That’s what makes this performance unique. Local singers and choirs joining the professional actors onstage for a beautiful uplifting evening, that’s perfect for the whole family.”

Visit the table in the Grand Foyer on Sunday mornings or go online anytime to www.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets are $15 for Adults and $10 for Children.

Christmas is our favorite time of year. Reminders of God’s gift to us are everywhere. Opportunities to discuss Christ with our children abound. However, if you’re like us, you know it can be tough to help kids focus on something other than gifts and what they want at Christmas. Of course, in fairness, we were the same way as children. Even as adults, we tend to spend more time in the mad holiday dash than we do in quiet re!ection. We have come across some quick and easy ways to provide our family with some of this thoughtful discussion time, which can be so elusive during Christmas.

1) Count down Christmas with an Advent. Last year we got little Christmas decorations, candy and gifts from the Dollar Tree (we are talking less than $15). Each day in December, before bed the kids got a new surprise. Here is the great part- we found a website that gives the signi"cance of all the Christmas symbolism (complete with scriptural references). A simple Google search of “Christmas Symbolism Meanings” will yield several. We were able to discuss how candy, wreaths, bells, etc. remind us of God’s gift of Christ.

2) Get involved in helping others. Get plugged into one of the service opportunities that the church o#ers or "nd your own. Older children can volunteer time with you. Younger children can help pick out gifts for something like Angel Tree. Have a family commitment to raise money for a special cause or for Lottie Moon by giving part of the money you would have spent on gifts. Just do something.

3) Give three gifts. We heard about this a few years ago and have attempted to do it for the past few years. Each of our children get three gifts from us every year-- gold (something they want), myrrh (something for their body), and frankincense (something for their spiritual growth). This helps to draw the focus back to the correct place. It eliminates a great deal of extra commercialism. It also helps to cut our spending in a way that allows the family to provide a gift to others.

4) Happy Birthday to Jesus. Christmas morning we always take a special time to read Luke 2 and wish Jesus a happy birthday (usually with some pre-made cinnamon rolls, see page 7).

Remember, these may look a little di#erent in your family and none of them will work out perfectly, but if you’re waiting for something to go perfectly, you will miss many important faith discussion opportunities with your family.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas Holiday with your family.

Advent Box Calendar

Taylor Road’s Annual Giving Guide is full of suggestions on how you can help others at this time of year.

Every Sunday in December the preschoolers will receive 1 piece of a 3 piece nativity set. It will be given out in Sunday school each week. Also you will be noti"ed of the special events that will happen each week as we celebrate together Jesus’ birth.

PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION December 11, 2011

The parent/child dedication service is a time that we, as a church family come together to assume responsibility for disciplining children who are dedicated through Sunday School, missions and choir. We also make a promise that we will encourage their parents. Please contact [email protected] or at 271-3363. We need information and a picture.

In my e!ort to grow as a leader, I try to read thoughts expressed from other e!ective worship leaders, this blog post spoke to me. It’s from Darlene Zschech’s website www.darlenezschech.com. Here is an excerpt:

I’m reminded that we ALL come from humble beginnings. There isn’t anyone in the world who can boast of their wisdom, strength, riches, but rather we should give thanks to Him who made and saves us. Our boast should be in the Lord. He is the matchless One, the only wise God, the Omnipotent One, and the One who made everything and everyone for His good pleasure. He sought us out and desires a relationship with us…Oh, thank You God!

{God's Goodness and Faithfulness…Psalm 78 says to us to tell our story, to speak of His faithfulness and wonders across the fabric of our everyday lives. As complicated as life may become...there is ALWAYS a way to bring forth that TRUTH of His kindness toward us, And this is one of the reasons I love the power of worship, as we sing the song of God that declares His goodness and faithfulness, His immense magnificence coming to meet us where we are. And it may make some of you uncomfortable, BUT, when you are leading or singing, writing or creating from this place... WOW, that sense of being abandoned to His will is highly contagious when it is authentic.

To all of you who are involved in leading, writing, playing, pastoring, or organizing any partof our congregational times of worship.. I encourage you today to do whatever you are doing

from a constant platform of gratefulness. Maybe you too have to take some time to write down and remember how far you've come since Christ made His home in your heart. The miracles, the words He's whispered deep into your soul, the breakthroughs...Let’s always

REMEMBER...let’s TELL the story of His goodness, and let’s worship the ONE who saved us! There is nothing worse than being led or instructed in worship by people who are going through the motions....c'mon...It's a new day, there is urgency in the air, and the world is desperate to hear about this amazing ONE TRUE GOD. ! Let’s lift up His name, bring our

finest, and spend our 24/7 lives saying a deliberate and genuine THANK YOU.

WHO WAS LOTTIE MOON?Charlotte “Lottie” Diggs Moon was born December 17, 1840 and she died December 24, 1912.In 1872 Lottie was appointed as a missionary to Tengchow, China. She served 39 years as a missionary, mostly in the Shantung province. She taught in girls' schools and often made trips into China's interior to share the good news with women and girls.

Lottie frequently wrote letters to the United States, detailingChinese culture, missionary life and the great physical and spiritual needs of the Chinese people. Additionally, she challenged Southern Baptists to go to China or give that others may go. By 1888, SouthernBaptists women had organized and helped collect $3,315 to send workers needed in China.

Lottie Moon died aboard a ship in the Japanese harbor of Kobe onDecember 24, 1912. She had basically starved to death because she had given her own food to the Chinese people who were desperate for food. She was 72 years old.

In 1918, Women's Missionary Union, (WMU) named the annual Christmas o!ering for international missions after the woman who had urged them to start it.

We have the privilege and awesome responsibilty of continuing this wonderful missions o!ering. I urge you and your family to make this missions gift the largest gift of any kind that you give at Christmas this year and every year. It will have lasting eternal signi"cance. Together we can be HIS Heart, HIS Hands, HIS Voice to a world that desperately needs to hear about Jesus Christ.

Together we can help support more than 5,000 missionaries around the world with our generous gifts to the L0TTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING.

The children began calling Lottie “the cookie lady” instead of “foreign devil.”

Paul says "All of you together are Christ's body, and each of you is a part of it. (I Cor. 12:27)"Jesus has commissioned us to be HIS Hand, HIS Heart, HIS Voice. Through praying, giving and going, Southern Baptists have ful!lled this legacy for more than 160 years.

Yet, billions remain lost and time maybe running out for them. We must pray more intentionally and give more sacri!cially than ever before. Our churches must take direct responsibility for helping reach the nearly 3,800 unengaged, unreached people groups that missionaries may never be able to get to.

And, since most unreached people groups likely are represented in the world's urban centers, we have unique challanges and opportunities to reach the world through cities.

What can you do? You can pray for an uprising of people willing to go. You can give sacri!cially so that our church can ful!ll its role in the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to reach our world. You can be that extension of HIS Heart, HIS Hands, HIS Voice by giving so that people can hear the good news story of Jesus Christ.

Once again, we will have the opportunity to see many of the countries where we have Southern Baptist mission work represented by their "ags in the worship center on Sunday morning, December 4. The black willrepresent those countries where we have mission work but for the safety our missionaries those countries cannot be named. Over 50% of our missionaries now serve in such countries. We need to pray for theirsafety on a regular basis.
