R U devoted to Jesus? Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life, no other god is alive forever more. God is the only God and He has chosen to reveal Himself through the Written Word and the Living Word – Jesus. JESUS IS ALIVE!

Because Jesus is alive you too can live forever. However, you must respond with repentance and in faith to His call in order to become His child. Jesus died for you. He rose from the dead for you. He lives to intercede for you.

Resurrection week is going to be a wonderful event in the life of the family of Taylor Road Baptist Church. Sunday, April 1 is the Lord’s Supper. Thursday April 5 is the Living Lord’s Supper. Saturday, April 7 is the arrival of the Passover Guest, and Sunday, April 8 is Resurrection Sunday. The entire week’s events are designed to take us to the cross the 1st Sunday and to the empty tomb on Sunday morning the 8th. We will celebrate our Risen Savior with the theme - Jesus is Alive. Please do not miss a single Sunday in April as a token of your devotion to Jesus, the Lord of life.

Hallelujah What a Savior,

Pastor Andy

Days ago, I read Bob Kauin’s plug for and summary of certain chapters of the book, “Engaging with God - a biblical theology of worship”, by David Peterson. Kauin’s thoughts about a lot of things are posted on the website: www.worshipmatters.com

May we never be so focused upon our problems, needs, and insuciencies that we fail to glorify the Lord and all that was done to overcome the things that are so very common to our humanness.

------

Taylor Road Baptist Church student voices will be leading worship Sunday, April 15 in the evening service. You don’t want to miss this opportunity.

“In summarizing of his chapter on Revelation, Peterson makes application to the songs we sing today:

‘The hymnic material in the book of the Revelation…should alert us to the importance of singing God’s praise in a way that is truly honoring to him and helpful to his people. Do our hymns and songs concentrate on praising God for his character and his mighty acts in history on our behalf? Do they focus suciently on the great truths of the gospel? There is always a temptation to focus too much on the expression of our own immediate needs.’

This is gold. Our songs should both honor God and help people. It’s not either/or. It’s both/and. We don’t come together merely to sing about how passionate we are for God (although that’s a very good thing!) or to be emotionally aected. Our songs should help us concentrate and focus on God’s character and his mighty acts in history on our behalf, especially the gospel.

One aspect of praise we see in the Psalms involves acknowledging our needs, longings, and desires. But an awareness of our need is meant to drive us to the suciency and supply of the gospel – God has clothed himself in esh! Jesus has perfectly fullled God’s law! Christ has suered and died, becoming sin for us and enduring God’s wrath and judgment in our place! God has raised him from the dead! Jesus is reigning and will one day return to bring salvation to all those who have placed their faith in him! He will right every wrong, establish his unending rule, and be the eternal joy of those who know him! These are truths that are completely outside of us and will never change. Their implications for our lives are massive and eternal. Hope and comfort in trials doesn’t come from continually rehearsing our problems and needs but through remembering the compassionate, all-powerful Savior who cried out “It is nished!” for his people’s joy and his Father’s glory.”

{ {Special Congratulations!

Congratulations to Ben Loftis and Blakely Gamble for making and participating in the Alabama Baptist State Honor’s Choir. This choir is composed of boys and girls from throughout the state of Alabama. They had several perfor-mances throughout North Alabama.

Great job! Keep up the good work!

Example of Passover Seder

David & Ruth [email protected]@taylorroad.org

Family Life has been helping strengthen families through its radio programs, Bible studies, pod-casts, and “Weekend to Remember” conferences for years. Most of us are familiar with the voice of Dennis Rainey and most of us have even attended (or at least thought about attending) one of the “Weekend to Remember” programs. But if you’re like us, the cost of the conference is usually a little prohibitive.

That is why we are excited about the upcoming “Art of Marriage” event here at Taylor Road, April 20-21. We have been given the opportunity to delve into some great marriage strengthening material from Family Life. They have put together a video driven study that will help to incorporate principles long taught at “Weekend to Remember” conferences, but in a fresh, new way. What makes it even better is the value! The conference is only $35 a couple ($20 per individual)...that is nearly a tenth of what a “Weekend to Remember” conference costs!

Making this conference an even more unique experience is the fact that we will get to work through this material with fellow members of our church body. This will allow us to not only walk through this event with our spouse but also receive the encouragement of those families we are around for the rest of the year.

We hope that each couple in our church body will attend, and that many singles will choose to prepare their hearts for marriage by attending this weekend event. Please be sure to sign up by emailing Ruth Givens ([email protected]), or by signing up at the registration table in the grand foyer by April 15.

Maundy ThursdayThursday, April 5, 7:00 p.m.

Derived from the Latin word mandatum, meaning "commandment," Maundy refers to the commands Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper: to love with humility by serving one another and to remember his sacrice.

Jesus took bread and wine and asked his Father to bless it. He broke the bread into pieces, giving it to his disciples and said, "This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." Then he took the cup of wine, shared it with his disciples and said, "This wine is the token of God's new covenant to save you--an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you." These events recorded in Luke 22:19-20 describe the Last Supper and form the biblical basis for the practice of Communion.

Passover GuestSaturday, April 7, 1:00 p.m.

Seder was the “Last Supper” that Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucixion. It was a celebration of the ancient Hebrew Passover feast, a remembrance of God’s mercy to those who had applied the blood of a lamb to their doorposts. What an awesome foreshadowing of the work of Christ!

Our goal in doing this is two-fold. First, we want to gain a better understanding of the awesome character of God by recognizing the symbolism of Christ built into the Passover celebration. Second, we want to provide the church body with ways to take aspects of the Seder back into their homes, as a means of redeeming the deep truths of their Easter celebrations with family and friends.

We hope that you will join us this year as we oer a brief glimpse into this amazing ceremony and discover exactly who the “Passover Guest” is.

This is open to the entire church! There is no charge (but you must sign up in the Grand Foyer by April 1).If you have questions, please contact David Givens.

The Flowering CrossSunday, April 8

On Resurrection Sunday, an empty cross will stand in the church foyer. Preschoolers and children are encouraged to bring owers to Sunday School that day. The owers will be used to bring the empty cross to life. This transformation will serve as a visual reminder to the New Life we can experience as a result of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. The cross will also provide a great opportunity to remember this special day in which we celebrate the resurrection.
