oils during your massage. Since many havephysical effects on the body, you should beaware of the oils the therapist may use. Oilsthat have stimulating effects should be avoid-ed, such as basil, cinnamon, cedarwood, andpeppermint. Clary sage should also be avoid-ed as it can initiate labor. The following arerecommended as safe for use during pregnan-cy: lavender to relieve nausea, headaches,and constipation; neroli and ylang-ylang mayhelp reduce stretch marks.

tioned on your side to give the therapist access toyour back or in a semi-reclining position for massageon the front of your body. Your body will be sup-ported with pillows or special cushions. Some thera-pists may have pillows specifically designed forpregnant women, including a “breakaway tummy”to support the pelvic area while lying on your stom-ach. You will be properly draped while the therapistis working, except for the area being massaged.
