A couple who’d been married for over 50 years was sitting on the sofa, when the wife said, “Dear, do you remember how you used to sit close to me?” He moved over and sat close to her. “Dear,” she continued, “do you remember how you used to hold me tight?” He reached over and held her tight. “And,” she went on, “do you remem-ber how you used to hug me and kiss me and nibble on my ear?” With that, her husband got up and started to walk out of the room. “Where are you going?” she asked. “Well,” answered the husband, “I have to get my teeth.”
The caterer was consulting with a woman about throwing a birthday party for her 72-year-old husband. “Is it a surprise?” the caterer asked. “Oh, no,” answered the woman. “My husband knows he’s going to be 72.”

5 Town Council members have their identities stolen!
By Geroge Cravens
It continues to amaze me that with all of the stories about Identity Theft, that there are still some folks who think it won’t happen to them. All of us are vulnerable. You, me, our children, our co-workers, public officials,….EVERYONE!6 weeks ago this story surfaced…..
Five Aurora City Council members victims of identity theft
Sara Castellanos, of the Aurora Sentinel, reported as follows:“At first, Aurora City Councilwoman Molly Markert thought the bill she had received the day before her birthday was some sort of gift. Then she realized her identity had been stolen to purchase more than $1,000 worth of camera equip-ment from an online international company. The letter was a bill.“First you go from disbelief to anger, then vulner-ability,” Markert said.Castellanos went on to say, “Markert and at least four other council members have had their identi-ties stolen in the past few weeks. The Aurora Police Department is currently investigating.”Det. Bob Friel, spokesman for the police depart-ment, said , “We are in the process of conducting preliminary interviews to determine exactly what has occurred in terms of violations of law and who has been affected,” Whoever stole Markert and the other council mem-bers’ identity needed the last four digits of their Social Security numbers to open accounts in their names, she said. That information is not released to the public; the only department in the city that does keep that information is Human Resources, she said. One council member went on to say, “This just goes to show that any of us can be subjected to identity fraud.” . “I think the fact that at least five members of council were a part of this scam really shows that we all have to take extra precautions to protect ourselves and our families.”For more tips, visit www.coloradoattorneygeneral.gov/initiatives/identity_theft/tips_preventing_id_theft.The bottom line is that we all are vulnerable. We need to be careful. Council Woman Markert said it best, “we all have to take extra precautions to pro-tect ourselves and our families ”We need to make sure someone is watching our back, your family’s back, and your children!! Let’s be vigilant about protecting ourselves! The Federal Trade Commission says that we all should have a service watching our identities. The question isn’t will it happen to me?, but when will it happen? Will you be ready? Will you be pro-tected? Having researched many of them, the one that we think offers the best protection can be found at www.bestIDshield.comWill you take that extra step and protect your fam-ily?

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Some changes might seem confusing at first, especially to an Aries whose impatience levels are pretty shaky this week. Take it one step at a time, Lamb, and soon all will be made clear.TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) That dif-ficult situation you’ve been dealing with continues to call for careful handling. Avoid quickly made choices that might not stand up when they’re finally put to the test.GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You still have lots of evaluating to do before you can consider making a commitment. It’s better to move cautiously than to risk stumbling into a major misunderstanding.CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A previ-ously peevish partner offers to be more helpful with your problems. But remem-ber: The final choice is yours. Be guided by what you feel is the right thing to do.LEO (July 23 to August 22) As the Big Cat, you can sometimes be pretty rough on those you suspect of betrayal. The best advice is to pull in those claws and listen to the explanation. It might surprise you.VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Your inner voice usually guides you well. But a note of caution: This is a period of mixed signals for you, so be careful you don’t misunderstand the messages you’re getting.LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Cupid’s call beckons both single Librans looking for a new love, as well as couples hoping to strengthen their relationships. A workplace problem is quickly resolved.SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) It’s been a hectic time for you, and you might want to take a break to restore both body and soul. You’ll then be set to face new challenges later this month.SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to De-cember 21) It’s a good idea to take a more conservative approach to your financial situation right now. Some plans made earlier this year might need read-justing.CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) This is a fine time to move boldly into those new opportunities I promised would open up for you. Check them over, and then choose the best one for you.AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Congratulations. Your self-assurance is growing stronger, and you should now feel more confident about making that long-deferred decision about a possible commitment.PISCES (February 19 to March 20) You’re very close to reaching your goal. But be wary of distractions that can lure you off-course and leave you stranded far away from where you really want to be.BORN THIS WEEK: You have an in-ner sight that helps you see into people’s hearts. You would be an excellent psy-chologist or social worker.

Week of November 14th Take a Rest, My Restless LegsDEAR DR. DONOHUE: I would like to know more about restless leg syndrome. -- I.J.
ANSWER: Roughly 7 percent of women and 3 percent of men suffer from restless leg syndrome. That gives you a lot of fellow sufferers. People describe it in many ways. Some say it’s an aching in their legs. Others describe it as a creeping-crawling sensation. No matter how people express the feeling, it makes them get up and move around. Activity lessens or gets rid of the sensations, but they can and do come back. They usually appear in the evening or at night when people are sitting or when they get into bed. No one is sure what causes the syndrome. Things that lessen its intensity and frequency are cutting back on caffeine, stopping smoking and exercising daily. Eliminating alcohol is a most helpful remedy. Sometimes restless leg syndrome is associated with iron deficiency and the anemia due to iron deficiency. Your doctor will want to check you for that. Pramipexole (Mirapex) and ropinirole (Requip), both drugs for Parkinson’s disease, are used for this syndrome, even though it has no relationship to Parkinson’s disease. They stimulate certain brain areas that control movement. Levodopa, another Parkinson’s medicine, also is pre-scribed. There are others, should these fail.Periodic limb movements of sleep is another condition that frequently occurs along with restless leg syndrome. It’s involuntary movements of the legs and feet during sleep. The kicking and jerking last about two seconds and recur every 20 to 40 seconds. Often the affected person is unaware of them. The bed partner plays a nighttime role of being a drop-kicked football and is quite aware of what’s happening. The affected person is quite tired during the day. The same medicines used for restless leg syndrome can be used here, too. Daily exercise might put an end to the nocturnal movements. The booklet on restless leg syndrome and nighttime leg cramps explains both conditions. To obtain a copy, write to: Dr. Donohue -- No. 306W, Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475. Enclose a check or money order (no cash) for $4.75 U.S./$6 Canada with the recipient’s printed name. Please allow four weeks for delivery. ***DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I have puffy bags under my eyes. They look like they have water in them. I am an 85-year-old woman. What’s the best way to treat them? They aren’t getting any better. I use ice on them, and it helps, but they come back. -- M.C.ANSWER: Those puffy bags under your eyes aren’t filled with water; they’re globs of fat. In younger years, tough strands of fiber held them in place. With age, those strands weaken, and the fat bulges out. Look around and watch for them on TV. You’ll see that most people over 60 have them. They’re not a sign of illness.I have seen all sorts of ads for creams and gels that say they can shrink these bags. I can’t vouch for any of them. I don’t know if they work. I have reservations. One way to correct them is surgical removal. You can forget the ice treatment unless you want to keep it up. It’s not a solution.***Dr. Donohue regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but he will incorporate them in his column when-ever possible. Readers may write him or request an order form of available health newsletters at P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475.

Five Good Reasons to Create an Investment Strategy
Some people buy invest-ments here and there, now and then. Others open an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), put some money in it, and then forget about it. But this type of haphazard investment be-havior can lead to haphaz-
ard results. On the other hand, you’ve got five good reasons for creating and follow-ing a comprehensive, long-term investment strategy.
Reason No. 1: You want to enjoy a comfort-able retirement lifestyle. For most people, building resources for retirement is the most powerful reason to invest. As a key part of your investment strategy, you’ll want to consider investments that have growth potential. The proportion of your portfolio devoted to these growth investments should be based on your individual risk tolerance and time horizon. And, as you move much closer to your actual retirement date, you may decide to shift some — but certainly not all — of your portfolio from growth-ori-ented vehicles to those investments that can provide a reliable income stream and incur less volatility. Reason No. 2: You need to stay ahead of inflation. Over the past few years, we’ve ex-perienced relatively low inflation, but over time, even a low inflation rate can dramati-cally erode the value of your savings and investments. That’s why you may want to consider investments that provide the poten-tial for rising income.Reason No. 3: You need to help manage the unexpected. You can’t predict what life will hold in store for you. To cope with unex-pected costs, such as a major car repair or a new furnace, you’ll need to create an emer-gency fund containing six to 12 months’ worth of living expenses so that you won’t be forced to dip into your long-term invest-ments. And to deal with other major uncer-tainties of life, you’ll need adequate life and disability insurance. Reason No. 4: You need resources for major life events. Your retirement may eventually require the bulk of your financial resources — but it’s not the only milestone for which you’ll need to save and invest. You may need a down payment on a house, or you may someday even want to purchase a vacation home. And if you have children or grandchildren, you may want to help them pay for college.Reason No. 5: You’ll want to keep in mind investment-related taxes. Taxes, like infla-

tion, can eat into your investment returns. You’ll need to evaluate whether you can benefit from tax-advantaged investments and retirement accounts, such as traditional or Roth IRAs. So there you have it: five good reasons to adhere to a unified investment strategy that’s tailored to your situation. This type of “blueprint” may not sound glamorous, and it’s certainly not a “get rich quick” formula, but it will help you stay on track toward your important financial goals.

About....
The link between chronic disease and hearing loss: Are You at Risk?
From: The Better Hearing Institute(ARA) - Hearing loss isn’t a harmless condition to be ignored. In fact, hearing loss often coexists with other serious health problems. And a growing body of research indicates that there may be a link. Studies show that people with heart diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression may all have an increased risk of hearing loss.
When left untreated, hearing loss alone can lead to a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. Impaired memory and the impaired ability to learn new tasks, reduced alertness, increased risk to personal safety, irritability, negativism, anger, fatigue, tension and stress are among its more common side effects. But when untreated hearing loss coexists with a chronic illness, the likelihood is all the greater that the individual will experience exacerbated levels of stress and diminished quality of life.
Here’s the good news: Research also indicates that professionally fitted hearing aids can help improve quality of life for people with chronic diseases when hearing loss does coexist.
“In the vast amount of cases, hearing loss can be addressed with hearing aids to help people hear better and improve their quality of life,” says Dr. Sergei Kochkin, executive director of the Better Hearing Institute (BHI). “I strongly urge anyone with heart disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, and/or depression to talk with their doctor and make hearing screening a routine part of their medical care.”
BHI encourages people to take a free, quick and confidential online hearing test at www.hearingcheck.org (link to: http://www.betterhearing.org/hearing_loss/online_hearing_test/) to determine if they need a comprehensive hearing check by a hearing professional. For more information on hearing loss, call: 1-888-HEARCLEAR. See the advertisement below.

Creamy Hawaiian Apple SaladI think I’ve created almost as many apple salads as there are leaves on an apple tree! Apples add so much more than flavor when stirred into a palate-pleasing salad. They also add fiber and vitamins. Try this tasty harvest-time apple salad and see if you don’t agree.

¥ “For that nagging toilet where the chain on the flush lever keeps getting stuck, here’s what I do: Trash that chain and use some curling ribbon. Tie it on and adjust the length. Once you’ve got it set, you shouldn’t have to mess with it again for a very long time!” -- M. in Minnesota¥ Need pumpkin pie spice? Mix 1/2 tea-spoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ginger, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves for each teaspoon needed.¥ “Clearance aisles and sales are a savvy shopper’s best friend. I buy age-appropriate games and toys all year from the sales rack and with coupons, so that I’m always armed with birthday presents and donations for holiday drives.” -- A.P. in Pennsylvania¥ “I try to keep a backpack of ‘just in case’ items in my car trunk. In the summer, it has sunblock, bug spray, etc. I have just refilled it for winter. There is a bottle of water and snack items, large towels that double as blankets, tools and a road flare, socks, an extra pair of shoes, etc. It pays to be safe!” -- C.C. in North Carolina¥ Make your own “hot pocket” using rice: Fill an empty sock with rice to about three-fourths full. Tie or sew closed. Create a pouch by using a bandanna to wrap it up; either tie or sew the bandanna into a remov-able pocket. To use, microwave the sock for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Remove carefully. Remove bandanna and wash from time to time.¥ Here’s a great cooking hint: When you want to sear meat, make sure you pat it dry using either paper towels or a kitchen cloth specifically for that purpose. Any moisture on the meat will cause it to steam-cook.Send your tips to Now Here’s a Tip, c/o King Features Weekly Service, P.O.
