sampad: promoting excellence and access in south asian arts since 1990
Welcome to our autumn season programme...
We have a wealth of colourful and captivating events to keep you entertained in the coming months. Sampad is delighted to be working with partner organisations across Birmingham on several landmark events this season. Together with leading arts and cultural organisations in the city, we’ll be marking the opening of the new Library of Birmingham in September, with a free weekend of outdoor arts. The 4 Squares Weekender (see page 5) will offer plenty of fun for the whole family, so come and join the party! Join us inside the new Library at the Birmingham Literature Festival in October, as award-winning poet Daljit Nagra performs extracts from his thrilling reworking of the epic Ramayana, accompanied by beautiful Bharatanatyam dance from Chitraleka Bolar (page 6).
Our Diwali celebrations in November feature an evening of divine South Asian dance at Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton (page 7).
Elsewhere, our key partner mac birmingham wraps up its 50th year celebrations with Sounding the River. Don’t miss the chance to follow this magical journey of sound, light and performance along the River Rea and into Cannon Hill Park (www.macarts.co.uk). You can also see one of India’s most soulful sitar maestros in action in September as our friends at Nishkam Arts present Anupama Bhagwat, on her debut UK tour (www.ncauk.org).
