The Moat Club presents

PLAZA SUITE

Come prepared for laughter when you come to Plaza Suite, Neil Simon’s set of sparkling stories about three unlikely couples facing turbulence in their relationships – all set in the same room of Manhat-tan’s glitzy Plaza Hotel.

A middle-aged woman returns to her honeymoon suite with her distracted husband in the hope of rekindling romance. A Hollywood big shot tries his luck with a child-hood sweetheart but she may be more than he has bargained for. And two bickering parents try to persuade their bride-to-be daugh-ter to unlock herself from the bath-room as the wedding guests arrive downstairs.

This is wry comedy that exempli-fies Neil Simon, author of The Odd Couple, at his most sophisticated and very best.

Act 1 directed by Una Gribben. Act 2 directed by Padraic Doyle. Act 3 directed by Barbara Sheridan.

Director’s Mentoring Group

NEW DIRECTIONSShowcasing the work of

Three Emerging DirectorsEnjoy an evening of three short plays which span from darkly tragic to full on farce and which showcase the talents of new directors from Kildare. The three plays have been produced in conjunction with the Moat Club, Naas and Prosperous Dramatic Society and represent the completion of a year-long Directors Mentoring Programme.Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story – di-rected by John Lennon: The ‘50’s are drawing to a close. Peter is sitting in Central Park reading a book, en-joying the quiet, when Jerry comes along and threatens to disturb his peace with the promise of a story – all about what happened at the Zoo.Anton Chekov’s The Bear (trans. Brian Friel) – directed by Mary New-man: Elena is the devoted, deter-mined widow – it’s been twelve months since the death of her husband and still she mourns him, much to the despair of her manser-vant. But when Gregory Smirnov bursts into the house demanding the repayment of a loan they all get a little more than they bargained for. Neil LaBute’s Iphegenia in Orem – directed by Karl Keogh: It may take its influence from the Greek tragedy, but this play is set in the heart land of America where we meet a young man on a business trip, as he holds up in a dingy motel talking about corporate downsizing and calculated risk – what seems to be clichéd busi-ness speak may have a lot more to it.

The Director’s Mentoring Programme was made possible by the kind sup-

port of the Kildare Arts Office.

THE NUALAS:LOCK UP

YOUR HUSBANDS!

In their most dangerous show ever The Nualas break the mould they made previously with a del-uge of new songs, higher harmo-nies, different keys and slightly shorter dresses, if that’s possible! And there’s more: Expect new Nuala revelations, harder laughs, slicker riffs, and even tighter foundation wear... if that’s possi-ble! When this show previewed in Dolan’s of Leitrim, at least three Gardai and a relationship Coun-sellor had to be called. As part of their ensuing community ser-vice (six weeks scooping out litter from the Shannon) the girls were obliged, as a warning, to call this sweltering new show, LOCK UP YOUR HUSBANDS. You have been warned.

‘Staggeringly impressive three-part harmonies and

a savage, biting wit’ - Metro, Scotland

‘The stuff of legends’ - Sunday Mail, UK.

SNOOKER SENSATION

– THE SHOWWith STEVE DAVIS & KEN DOHERTY

Starring the greatest snook-er player of all time, SIX TIME WORLD CHAMPION, Steve Davis and our very own, one and only World Champion, The Great Ken Doherty, this will be a night never to be forgotten as the 2 lads pit their talent and their wits against each other, IN WHAT WILL BE A NIGHT OF SNOOKER GENIUS AND ABOVE ALL, great fun! Steve “The Nugget” Davis, is not only the best player ever to hold a snooker cue, he is also a really funny person and will have the audience in stitches as he did during his great run on “I’m a Ce-lebrity, get me out of here.” “The Darlin’ of Dublin” Ken Doherty, is still playing at the top of his game as he did when he won a tourna-ment recently in Thailand. There will also be a chance for a couple of lucky audience members to play a frame against the boys.

THE SIX MARYS

Written and presented by Jean Farrell

Directed by Joe McCarrickThis one-woman show is a comical yet poignant look at life, from child-hood in the 1950s, to the present day. It draws very much on the influence of religion as taught by the nuns – preparing young Irish Catholic schoolgirls to imitate the virtues of the Virgin Mary. They were to be meek, humble and pure. How well did this help them cope with the huge social changes of the following decades? Were the fanci-ful dreams of youth fulfilled?

The Six Marys are fun-loving girl-friends, who grow into practical, everyday housewives. Jean has plenty to say about the teenage pursuit of Mr. Wonderful – followed by the reality of married life, teen-age children and growing waist-lines!

This journey of self-discovery is interspersed with well-known hit songs from the various eras, sung by Catherine Gallagher.

“Really, really funny - and SO “-true to life”

“Haven’t laughed so much in years - LOVED IT”

Tom Kelly Promotions Presents

AN EVENING WITH JOHNNY

MCEVOYJohnny McEvoy has always been highly acclaimed for his excellent shows and his forthcoming na-tionwide concert tour is eagerly awaited by his legion of fans.

This nostalgic evening of ‘Song and Story’ features all of John-ny’s many hit songs, including Muirsin Durkan, Boston Burglar, Those Brown Eyes, Long Long Before Your Time, etc. His songs are haunting, evocative and beau-tifully presented with many in the folk and ballad style.

Johnny McEvoy has been one of the most enduring and talented singer/songwriters in these is-lands over the past 50 years. His concert performance is second to none with his songs beautifully delivered in truly artistic fashion and story telling of the finest or-der.

A concert not to be missed.

LEGEND OF LUKE KELLY

featuring Chris Kavanagh & the Patriots

On 30th January 1984 it is said that the whole of Dublin grieved the early death of Luke Kelly. He has left an indelible mark as being the greatest folk artist of the 20th Century. In October 2001 A Trib-ute to Luke Kelly was launched in Dublin’s Hotpress HQ before an audience which included Luke’s siblings and relations.

As a result of the show’s success, MCD concert promoters booked the band for a three month res-idency at the Olympia theatre which led to a memorable ap-pearance on RTE’s Open House. They were also the only band to receive an invitation to perform on Eamon Dunphy’s radio show ‘The Last Word’. Over the past ten years they have amazed audienc-es following powerful sell-out per-formances in prominent Irish ven-ues with the regular attendance of the Kelly family. Popularity has seen the band touring abroad in England, Switzerland and even as far away as Australia.

Lead singer Chris Kavanagh bears a remarkable resemblance to Luke, while his singing talents capture the depth and passion of the great man. He is joined on stage by accomplished musicians who all consider it an honour to bring Luke’s memory to the stage in the ultimate tribute to the King of Balladeers. In November 2011 Chris stood in with folk legends The Dubliners on their German tour and made a guest appear-ance at their Christmas concerts in Vicar Street concert venue Dublin for the recording of The Dublin-ers 50th Anniversary DVD. As a result of this Chris has been seen on both RTE1 TV and TV 3 at Xmas 2012 while performing with The Dubliners.

The music from the show is delight-ful and features great toe-tapping Christmas classics including the smash hit A Hippo for Christmas. The children will love it!

“As a kick-off to Christmas, this show is as bright as Rudolf’s nose”

ABBA FOREVER- The Christmas Show ABBA FOREVER - The Christmas Show returns to The Moat Theatre on Tuesday 16th December for another not to be missed celebra-tion. It’s always party time when ABBA is about, but when it’s the Christmas Show, then that’s a real excuse for a party! It’s over 40 years since ABBA burst on to the world stage with their Eurovision win with Waterloo. This happy sing-a-long tribute, celebrates with a loud and proud fanfare! It’s the perfect way to start your Christmas season! Their music is the most played on radio sta-tions around the world and the musical based on their life is still packing the West End and Thea-tres from Waterloo (Pardon the pun!) to Timbuktu.

MAMMA MIA was a huge cine-ma hit and ABBA still rolls on! It has played to full houses all over Ireland during tours here for the past 6 years! And it packed every-where on last year’s visit, when they received repeated standing ovations for what was one of the most memorable shows of the year!

Get your glad rags on, brush up on the lyrics, don the dancing boots and come to the best party in town! You’ll be rockin’ in the aisles!!!

As with all Jack L shows it prom-ises to surprise, excite, challenge and most of all, ENTERTAIN! He is Ireland’s treasure and the press have sung his praises for decades now.
