Perfectly YOURSELF Best Lent Ever A Path To Self-Mastery

When's the last time you intentionally denied yourself of something? At the core of an integrated life is this disci-pline. And in order to live out this dis-cipline in the moments of the day, we have to learn to deny ourselves. Of course, we live in a culture that is absolutely allergic to self-denial of any form. We live in a culture that says, “Do whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want, as often as you want.” And so, the con-cept of self-denial, or denying ourselves of some-thing, has been lost in the general fabric of our cul-ture—and so needs to be reintroduced. Fifty years ago, or a hundred years ago, this practice of fasting or self-denial was practiced much more. It needs to come back into our lives. I think that cre-ates a great opportunity for us to really think about, “How am I going to deny myself on a regular basis so that I don't become a slave to my appetites, so that I don't become a slave to my body, so that I don't become a slave to my impulses?” Because, God wants you free. You're created for freedom. Are you free? Maybe more important than that, what aren't you free from? Because we're all not free from something. And you know what? It might just be your morning cup of coffee. That might be your thing—that you're not free from your morning cup of coffee. But God wants you free, he wants you completely free, he wants you totally free so that you can live life to the fullest.

¿Cuándo fue la última vez que inten-cionalmente te negaste algo? En el cen-tro de una vida integrada está es disci-plina. Y para vivir esta disciplina en cualquier momentos del día, tenemos que aprender a negarnos a nosotros mismos. Por su-puesto, vivimos en una cultura que es absolutamente alérgica a la abnegación de cualquier forma. Vivimos en una cultura que dice: "Haz lo que quieras, cuando quieras, como quieras, cuantas veces quieras". Y así, el concepto de abnegación, o negándonos a nosotros mis-mos de algo, se ha perdido en la estructua general de nuestra cultura, y por lo tanto debe ser reintroducido. Hace cincuenta años, o cien años atrás, esta práctica de ayuno o abnegación se practicaba mucho más. Necesi-ta volver a nuestras vidas. Creo que eso crea una gran oportunidad para que pensemos realmente, "¿Cómo voy a negarme a mí mismo de manera regular para no convertirme en esclavo de mi apetito, para no conver-tirme en esclavo de mi cuerpo, para que no me con-vierta en esclavo de mis impulsos? "Porque, Dios te quiere libre. Eres creado para la libertad. ¿Estás libre? Tal vez más importante que eso, ¿de qué no eres libre? Porque no todos estamos libres de algo. ¿Y sabes qué? Puede ser solo tu taza de café de la ma-ñana. Eso podría ser lo suyo, que no está libre de su taza de café de la mañana. Pero Dios te quiere libre, él te quiere completamente libre, él te quiere totalmente libre para que puedas vivir la vida al máximo.

VIVIR LA LITURGIA - INSPIRACIÓN DE LA SEMANA

Hoy en día, algunos de los temas más conmovedores están en nuestro enfoque central: el sentir alabanza y honor, el miedo, la ansiedad, la traición, la desesperación, la duda, la confianza, la esperanza, la tristeza, la separación, el sufri-miento, la muerte, la determinación y la valentía. Estos son unos de los sentimientos y realidades con los que lucha el ser humano. Jesús, Hijo de Dios, los experimenta todos. En el camino de la vida, tenemos que considerar el signifi-cado de datos sentimientos. ¿Cómo caben dentro de toda mi vida? Jesús nos demuestra claramente que hasta las co-sas que nos dan miedo pierden su poder cuando descubri-mos que estamos siendo guiados hacia una nueva vida. El sufrimiento es redentor. El pecado y la muerte permiten que la gracia y la vida del amor incondicional de Dios lo vence todo. Que veamos en el camino de la Cruz de Jesús el camino hacia la verdad que debemos seguir.

Today some of the most poignant themes of human life come into clear central focus: the feeling of being praised and honored, fear, anxiety, betrayal, despair, doubt, un-certainty, trust, hope, sadness, separation, suffering, death, determination, and courage. These are the emo-tions and realities that every human being wrestles with often. Jesus, the Son of God, encounters them all. As we journey through life, we have to confront the existential meaning of each of these things. How do they fit into the bigger picture? Jesus shows us most clearly that even those things we fear the most lose their power when we discover that we are being led to new life. Suffering is re-demptive. Sin and death give way to grace and life and God's unconditional love conquers all. May we see in Je-sus' Way of the Cross the path of truth we all must follow.

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

Our humanity bleeds through today's Gospel passages in more ways than one. We see both elation and fall, hope in the midst of the darker sides of our natures. If we allow it, these Gos-pels hold a mirror to our own fickle hearts. The crowds cry "Hosanna" and the Apostles profess allegiance unto death. In a manner of days - even hours - Jesus is be-trayed, abandoned, denied, condemned, tortured, and executed. As God, he could have stopped this horrific narrative from unfolding, but he doesn't. He allows free will to play itself out. There are nearly two millennia between this spectacle and us. We can stand safely removed, if we choose. But Lent invites us to return to this story. Lent invites us to find ourselves in the people we encounter there. Are we the repentant woman at Bethany? Are we naysayers of such lavish piety? Have we acted in a way that betrays those we love or denies what we know to be good and true? Have we fallen asleep in our faith? Have we un-fairly accused others of a crime or immorality we imag-ine, though perhaps they didn't commit? Do we help oth-ers carry their burdens? Do we stand in solidarity with those who suffer? Do we care for the dying? This week, take up today's Gospel again. Look carefully at the Passion narrative and sit with it in silence. Find yourself in the story and ponder its meaning for your own life. Journey with Jesus to the foot of the Cross so that you too may say, along with the faithful centurion, "truly this man was the Son of God!"

MEDITACIÓN DEL EVANGÉLIO - ALENTAR ENTENDIMIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA

El Domingo de Ramos tiene doble toque de emociones en los corazones de los fieles. La Liturgia está llena de alegría por la entrada triunfal de Jesús a Jerusalén entre la multitud que lo celebra como Rey. Por otra parte, lo envuelve un ambiente de tristeza, ya que todo está orientado hacia el Calvario donde el momento trágico llegara. La Pasión, y la muerte del Se-ñor. Como comunidad de creyentes, nos preparamos para la Semana Santa y el preámbulo es el Domingo de Ra-mos. Hay que tomar tiempo para preparar todos los deta-lles del Triduo Pascual. Nada debe hacerse en solitario, trabajar en equipo es esencial. En la carta de San Pablo aparece de modo especial la ale-gría y la tristeza de la Celebración de hoy. "Por eso, Dios lo engrandeció y le dio el Nombre que esta sobre todo nombre, para que al Nombre de Jesús se doble toda rodi-lla en los cielos, en la tierra y entre los muertos, y todo lengua proclame que Cristo Jesús es el Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre". (Filipenses 2:9-11). ¿Qué comprende-mos de este misterio? ¿Cómo contribuiremos al Señor todo el amor que nos ha dado? ¡Que el Señor aumente nuestra fe al agitar las palmas en honor a Cristo Victorio-so! El Papa Francisco, nos pide reflexionar en lo siguien-te. "Así, al mismo tiempo que también nosotros festeja-mos a nuestro Rey, pensamos en el sufrimiento que él tendrá que sufrir en esta Semana. Pensamos en las ca-lumnias, los ultrajes, los engaños, las traiciones, el aban-dono, el juicio inicuo, los golpes, los azotes, la corona de espinas..., y en definitiva al vía crucis, hasta la crucifi-xión". WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED Question: Where do Palm Sunday palms come from and where should they go?

Answer: The Palm Sunday celebration has ancient origins. Beginning the liturgy "outside" the church, we symbolically reenact Christ's entry into Jerusalem. The crowds in ancient Israel waved palm branches - a symbol of royalty - to welcome Jesus. These days, obtaining palms takes a lot of planning and coordination, as hundreds of thousands of churches worldwide need them on the same day! Many in the United States order palms from Florida, California, Texas, or Central America. Many companies stress the sustainability of their production and the just wages paid to their workers. The palms used on Palm Sunday are blessed at Mass. This means they shouldn't end up in the trash! Many people weave palms into crosses or families display them in their homes. If you do not plan on displaying your palms throughout the year, they should be burned, buried, or left at the church. In the final case, the palms are burned to provide the ashes for next year's Ash Wednesday service.

¿POR QUÉ HACEMOS ESO? - EXPLICACION DE LA VIDA CATÓLICA Pregunta: ¿De dónde vienen las palmas del Domingo de Ramos y dónde deberían ir?

Respuesta: La celebración del Domingo de Ramos tiene oríge-nes antiguos. Comenzando la liturgia "fuera" de la iglesia, sim-bólicamente recreamos la entrada de Cristo en Jerusalén. Las multitudes en el antiguo Israel agitaban ramas de palmeras, un símbolo de la realeza, para dar la bienvenida a Jesús. En estos días, obtener palmas requiere mucha planificación y coordina-ción, ¡ya que cientos de miles de iglesias en todo el mundo las necesitan en el mismo día! Muchos en los Estados Unidos pi-den palmeras desde Florida, California, Texas o América Cen-tral. Muchas compañías enfatizan la sostenibilidad de su pro-ducción y los salarios justos pagados a sus trabajadores.
