Divine Mercy Sunday Celebration

Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 320 West Lynde St. Watertown, on Sunday, April 28th, at 3:00PM.

On Good Friday, April 19th, also at 3:00 PM, the devo-tion will begin with the praying of the Chaplet in the church. We are encouraged to celebrate the Feast of Mercy. Pope Francis declared 2016 the year of Mercy! We are all called to bring home fallen-away Catholics. There couldn't be a better time to INVITE THEM BACK to the church because of the promise Jesus made concerning this devotion. Jesus said "any soul that would go to confession & receive com-munion without a mortal sin, on that feast day, would re-ceive total forgiveness for their sins & punishment". Your soul will be blemish free like it was on the day of your Baptism!!! Jesus said “Let no soul fear to draw near to Me”(in confession) The GREATER THE SINNER THE MORE HE IS ENTITLED TO GODS MERCY!! (No SIN IS TOO GREAT TO BE FORGIVEN) For more info or questions on Divine Mercy Sunday...Call Judy @315-783-7349, or visit www.thedivinemercy.org

Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, is pleased to offer a preventive health event at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on 4/15/2019. Five screenings will be offered that scan for poten-tial health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a lead-ing cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. There are three ways to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call toll-free 1-888-653-6441 or visithttp://lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle or text the word circle to 797979

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP The emptier a person’s heart is, the more he or she needs things to buy, own and consume." Lau-dato Si (#204) Lent may be a perfect time to fill our hearts with God through spending more time in PRAYER; FAST from the impulse to buy something we don’t need; and with the money we’ve saved,

give ALMS to someone who does need it.

FROM THE DESK OF FR. JONAS

Great people were often controversial figures during their lifetime. It is history, which can look on from the distance and see things in proper perspective, that rectifies the often limited judgment of contemporaries. Something like this has happened to the Lord Jesus. His contemporar-ies, even his closest friends, co-workers, did not understand him, espe-cially not his strange ideas on suffering and death as a necessary pas-sage to a better life. Only later did all of this became clear to them. Today we begin our Holy Week to reflect the meaning of the sufferings and death of Jesus and our suffering as well. In today’s first reading we read the suffering servant. The prophet urges us to emulate the servant. Like the servant, we too are called to deal with frequent humiliations – specified here as beating, beard-plucking, punches, and spitting. We too can be confident that our God will support us in our struggles. Through our self-emptying we will find the self-fulfilling. Today Christians celebrate Palm Sunday. “Christ entered in triumph into his own city, to contemplate his work as our Messiah, to suffer, to die and to rise again. The triumphal entry, celebrated at the beginning of the passion-week, emphasizes that the three elements: suffering, death, and resurrection, belong together. Jesus’s death was not defeat. It was a victory. Husbands and wives who see their mutual love as their top priority choose to find their –self-fulfillment in their self-emptying. Parent who spend their lives on their family opt for self-emptying as the path to self-fulfillment. All laborers who see their co-workers as fellow humans to be respected and not obstacles to be overcome have a Christian view of self-fulfillment. In these and similar situations, it is in self-emptying that we find the self-fulfilling. The Eucharist captures the culmination of Jesus’ entire process of self-emptying. Before the community recites that “Christ is risen”, it must first confess that “Christ has died”. The Eucharist thereby challenges us to adopt Jesus’ plan of exaltation – namely, putting others first.
