Corpus Christi Sunday
Dear Parishioners,
We’re on the downward slope. Of the 100th I mean. I haven’t skied in way too long! But since our celebrations were planned to run May to May, we’ve passed the halfway mark of our year of Remembering, Celebrating and Committing. But we’re not done yet. I know it may seem odd to have something like “Bible Bingo” as one of our 100th events. But we always planned the 100th to be a combination of informative and edifying events and events that are fun and community-building. And a Parish is called to serve both aspects of our human condition. We need fun in our lives and that can come from the Parish as well as anything we do on our own. And with something like “Bible Bingo,” right now, I think we need it even more. We’re going through some tough times in our Church and while we can’t laugh things away, we still need to be able to laugh. We need to be able to laugh at ourselves. “Bible Bingo” will give us a chance to do that. And even as we’re laughing and having a good time, the producers of “Bible Bingo” plan a free-will offering to a local religious order (I picked Camilla Hall, the retirement residence of the IHM’s, the last order to serve our Parish) to remind us that even as we’re laughing, we’re always disciples. February opens the Disciple Maker Index, our Parish’s self-study. There will be specific instructions in upcoming bulletin ads and emails, but I want to get it into your heads and hearts now, as we’ve been doing from time to time during this year. Where are we as a Parish? Where do we want to go? Those are questions I can discuss with the various Councils, especially the Pastoral Council, but without your input, the discussion can’t be complete. It’s been over 20 years since we’ve done anything like this and things in the Church and in the community have changed. What do we need to do to address what’s going on now? Let us know. Fr. Muller has a talk prepared for our next edifying event in March. What does it mean to be the Parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart? How can the title help us connect better to our Faith and to living as His disciples? Join us on March 21 to explore the possibilities. And don’t forget our signature Spiritual event—John Paul Kasperowicz’s talk on April 4. Rescheduled from Nov. 15, this will also be our big Lenten event as we prepare to celebrate the Triduum of our 100th year—100 years of remembering the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord. I know early Spring has a lot of stuff going on, but make it a point to join us. This is who we really are. And start thinking about getting those tickets for the dinner at Pinecrest Country Club that will conclude our celebration. We started with a great time at the Picnic. Let’s go out with a bang as well. And remember, “bangs” are usually used at the beginning of something (a starter’s pistol). This isn’t just the end of our celebration; it’s the beginning of our next century. How great will that be? That’s up to you. So the downward slope maybe, but things are also building up. Don’t miss it! God bless.
Fr. Schiele

Confirmation Retreat & Mass of Presentation On Saturday, January 19th there will be a day of Retreat as part of the spiritual preparation for Confirmation (both Catholic School and CCD students). The day will extend from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. This includes the Mass of Presentation. Please report to the gym at 1:00 p.m. Be sure to eat lunch before you come. A snack of a soft pretzel and water will be provided in the afternoon. At 4:45 p.m. the parents should come to the gym to pick up their child and go directly to the 5:00 p.m. Mass of Presentation. It is important that the parents (and sponsors, if possible) be present with the Confirmation candidate for the 5:00 p.m. Mass.
Note: Because we are going to Mass following the Retreat, please dress appropriately – i.e. no shorts and not too casual. Students will receive a Compendium of the Catechism at the retreat which will be blessed during Mass. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Roberts at (215) 822-9020.
Parish 100th Fun Fact
In August of 1986 Father Dombay was named Pastor Emeritus and retired to the former school where his large collection of Christmas Crèches was permanently on display. His door was always open to visiting Parishioners, and he continued his devotion to the sick of the Parish.

OLSH Art & Environment Committee Welcoming Volunteers For:
Decorating & Flower Arranging
Seasonal decorations help to promote a welcoming atmosphere and reflect the reality of the liturgy in our church. The Art & Environment Committee is in need of volunteers to help “decorate” for Lent, Easter, Advent, Christmas, and other special liturgies; interior design experience would be an asset. We need an additional individual to provide flower arrangements approximately once per month for the sanctuary and the Blessed Mother alcove. Flower arranging experience is helpful, but if you love flowers and have a willingness to learn, we will help you get started and provide support. No experience necessary to join our group! Please email with questions: [email protected]

2018 Christmas Bazaar Father Schiele
would like to share the final, results of the 2018 Christmas Bazaar.
$34,236 was raised for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Parish family for your amazing support of our 2018 Christmas Bazaar. To all of you who volunteered your time, talent and finances, it made for a fun and successful event. We made $34,236.79!! Thank you!
A “PARISH PANtRY” THANK YOU!
There are no words which can adequately convey our deep gratitude for being able to bless 31 families this Christmas through our Parish Pantry! Whether you donated food or other items, time, or treasure your always incredible generosity enabled our Pantry to provide these families with food for a special Christmas dinner (and then some!) as well grocery gift cards and even homemade cookies! Each family has a very different story to tell, but the heartfelt thanks they express is very much the same! An extra special thank-you must be extended to our wonderful Knights, our amazing scrip personnel, our awesome cookie bakers, and our phenomenal crew of Pantry volunteers!
Now that the Christmas Season is behind us and Easter is fast approaching, the Pantry shelves are in need of being restocked. Please consider continuing your donations of non-perishable food (which has not expired,) personal/home care items, and grocery gift cards. Your ongoing assistance with this important ministry proves that true “love of neighbor” so beautifully exists in our OLSH Parish family! May God richly bless you for all that you do!
Thank you, again, so very much!
Christmas Gift
If you were not home for Christmas, be sure to pick up your gift from the parish in the Narthex! Do you believe it is possible to be happier
than you have ever been before? Not for fleeting moments, but consistently? Bestselling author Matthew Kelly believes it is possible – and in his latest book, The Biggest Lie, he explains how. This book provides the practical tools necessary to help you regain your fervor and leave your mark on the work and experience more happiness than you thought possible. Together we can change the course of history with humility, generosity, kindness, and joy, one Holy Moment at a time.
Support Our Advertisers! Please consider using the services of our bulletin advertisers. Their support of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish is greatly appreciated!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts
they perform for us in our time of need. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and
Savior. AMEN
