From the Pastor:

A message from Saint John Paul II on today’s Gospel:

Peter…was not yet ready to accept the whole truth about Christ…. Peter professed and proclaimed the truth…that the Crucified and Risen Christ was the Messi-ah sent by God…beginning on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem right up to the day when for the sake of this truth he gave his life on the Vatican Hill in Rome. And by believing and teaching this, Peter thought and spoke in God’s way and not in man’s…. We must follow Christ Himself.

Consider the words of Jesus in the Gospel today: “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me.” We need to be all about the Truth of Christ. Get to Confession. Come to Mass – even more than Sunday if you can. Pray!!! Live the Beatitudes. This is the only life for the Baptized Christian. It’s one with so much freedom and joy walking with Jesus Christ in all suffering. Anything else is not of God.

God bless you this week and always!

With love and Prayers, Fr. Francis

Welcome back!!!!

Religious education classes begin the week of September 10th. There will be mandatory parent meetings that first week of classes

Emails were sent to all our registered children last week detailing their religion class assignment and including a copy of our School Calendar. If you have NOT received this email, please call the school office (365-2141) so we may send you out another.

We are grateful to report that we have filled all of our regular catechist positions!! However, we are always in need of volunteers who may be available to substitute in the event a regular catechist is ill or has an unexpected emergency. Lesson plans will be provided. Please contact the RE office if you would like to be added to our list of possible substi-tutes. You will be contacted if the need arises and if you are able to take the class - we will be most appreciative.

The Religious Education Office, in the Parish Offices, is open daily M-F, 9 AM—2PM. After hours, you can call and leave a message on 365-2141 or email [email protected] and we will respond to your message ASAP.

Weekly Quote from St. Philip Neri

It is an old custom of the servants of God to have some little prayer ready and to be frequently darting them up to heaven during the day, lifting their minds to God out of the mire of this world.

Since so many people already pay bills and do their banking on-line, we are pleased to announce that our parishioners now have the convenience of an electronic option for making regular offerings!

Contributions can be debited automatically from your checking or savings account or processed using your credit or debit card. (MC, Visa or Discover) at no cost to you. This new electronic giving program offers convenience for you and much needed donation consistency for our parish. You will no longer need to write out weekly checks or

remember envelopes and, when vacation, illness or weather prevent you from attending Mass, your weekly offerings to continue on an uninter-rupted basis!

Giving online is safe, secure and easy, allowing you to set up automatic recurring contributions and view your complete online giving history from anywhere you have access to the Internet. Paper authorization forms are also now available at the back of church or in the Parish office. Special, holy day and holiday collections are also included. If you already use envelopes, once you begin donating on-line the record of your contributions will be merged into a single account.

There is a button on our webpage: www.olshtappan.com which will take you directly to on-line giving registration page or pick up an authorization form in church.

Depending on whether you choose to donate via bank accounts or credit /debit card, please be prepared with either bank account info or debit/credit card numbers when you log on to the link. It’s a quick process and you always have the ability to change or end your giving this way. Once you register for on-line giving your paper envelopes will be cancelled.

PLEASE BE SURE TO COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE THE FIRST TIME YOU LOG IN!

We strongly urge our parishioners to take advantage of this new opportunity!

August 20, 2017 $7759. August 21, 2016 $6707.

Prayer for Labor Day

On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, loving Father, we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the professions, and in family living.

We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of your name. We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the rights and needs of workers every-where. May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity. May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as you live and reign Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Please remember the people of

Houston in your prayers as

they begin the long and

difficult road to recovery .

“After decades of crushing Roman rule, the Hebrew people are losing hope. When will the promised Messiah come? Into the

midst of this turmoil, young Mary is told she will bear God’s Son.

Angels in heaven proclaim His birth; humble shepherds and regal kings pay Him homage. Clearly this is no ordinary baby! But

who is He – really? Is He the Messiah, our Savior? Who can even believe such a thing!”

Witness the event that is central to the season, brought to life on a panoramic stage with high drama, spectacular special effects
