Our Parish Prayer of Unity

Heavenly Father,

You call us to be Your faith-filled people,

United in the Sacred Heart of Your Son.

Grant us the grace to always respond to

Your call with lives of

active faith, firm hope and Christian charity.

Aided by the example of Saint Augustine,

may we always seek to embrace and love

the teachings of Your Church.

Accompanied by Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

may we, in joyful times and in times of Sorrow,

always strive to be faithful followers of Your Son,

Jesus Christ,

for He lives and reigns with You,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever!

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, July 19th our Parish celebrated the Feast day of one of our Parish’s

patrons – Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Many parishioners and friends joined us for a

special Mass in honor of our Lady on Sunday afternoon, followed by a impressive

procession in honor of Our Lady through the streets of Bridgeport and Swedesburg. Below

are some pictures that capture the celebration of our procession. Many thanks to all who

showed their love for our Lady by braving the hot summer day to honor her!

Through the intercession of Saint Augustine and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, may we always be United in the Sacred

Heart of Jesus!

Celebration of Marriage Retreat

September 18 - 20

Marianist Family Retreat Center

417 Yale Ave. Cape May Point, NJ 08212

This weekend is intended for couples married at least

10 years. It honors and celebrates the commitment to

the Sacrament of Marriage. We strike a deliberate

balance among participation/reflection, liturgy, free

time, fun activities and plenty of “couple time” for

walks to nearby beaches.

Cost: $260 per couple (includes all meals, room,

program, etc.)

Sign up online at www.capemaymarianists.org or call

609-884-3829 for more information.

THE HOLYDAY OF THE

ASSUMPTION OF

MARY

The Assumption of Mary into

Heaven

is celebrated on August 15th.

Masses for the Holyday are:

Friday evening, August 14th at 7:00pm

Saturday morning, August 15th at 8:00am.

While the Assumption of Mary into Heaven

is always celebrated as a Holyday, it is

usually observed as a Holyday of obligation.

Since the Holyday falls on a Saturday this

year, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted;

however, all parishioners are welcome to join

us at either Mass to honor our Lady on the

Solemnity of her Assumption into Heaven.

ARE YOU REGISTERED?

Each registered household of our Parish receives regular mailings and information regarding the life of our Parish. If you (or your family) does not currently receive envelopes or other correspondence in the mail from our Parish, you are not a registered parishioner. It is important to be registered in our Parish for many reasons: we are only able to offer letters of eligibility or other letters of reference to registered parishioners; registered parishioners are given preference when scheduling a funeral Mass or other liturgical celebrations; additionally, your family needs to be registered in our Parish to be enrolled in our Parish Religious Education Program. If your family is not registered (or you are not sure if you are a registered parishioner) please stop by the rectory and speak with Joanne or Kathleen.

HELP REMEMBER ED! The Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company

and family and friends of Ed Dybicz, a

lifelong resident of Swedesburg and a

parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish until he

passed away earlier this year, are trying to

assemble a petition to have the Swedesburg playground

(located a block behind Sacred Heart Church) renamed

in his honor. But they need our help.... and a thousand

names on the petition before authorities will consider

the request. Parishioners are encouraged to visit the web

site: www.thepetitionsite.com. Along the toolbar,

towards the right side of the page is a search box - type

in EDWARD DYBICZ MEMORIAL PARK and hit

enter. A link for "Petition: Edward Dybicz Memorial

Park" will appear. A box will appear for you to sign

your name. Help honor a man who served his country,

his community and his church for so many years by

helping to rename the park in Ed's memory.
