Please join us in prayer this week for :

Sixth Sunday of Easter Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church May 26, 2019

From the Pastor:

Father Simon Tugwell, O.P. reflects on the peace God wants to be a part of our everyday lives:

The beginning of peace must be acceptance of lack of peace, just as the beginning of relaxation must be acceptance of tension….Peace comes about through acceptance of truth; if we accept the truth of our-selves—the shifting truth of what we are from moment to moment—and constantly give it over into the truth of peace and wholeness in Christ, to which we have access in the church, then we shall be in fact in peace, whether or not we feel ourselves to be at peace. Peace is, then, something which enfolds us rather than something which we grasp….

Peace is being what you are, what you really are, what you are in God, what you are in obedience to the creative Word of God, the “implanted Word” which is the law of your freedom.

To be a peacemaker is...to declare the truth of God and the truth of creation; it is to announce that a fallen world can be remade. It is to proclaim that the oneness of God has taken possession of the frag-mented world of sin….

Peace and unity are not to be achieved by paring down the complications of life, but by entering into the magnetic pull of God’s unity.

Christ’s peace be with you, my brothers and sisters!

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

Fifth Sunday of Easter Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church May 19, 2019

Renew and Rebuild is underway in our Parish!

I am very happy to share with you that Our Lady of the Sacred Heart has been running a Capital Campaign

called Renew + Rebuild. This campaign is being held across the entire Archdiocese of New York.

• This $200 million capital campaign will help with the most urgent needs of the Church of New York:

Support for needy parishes

St. Patrick’s Cathedral restoration

Supporting Catholic high schools

Ongoing evangelization and lay leadership formation initiatives

• Through this historic program, our parish will receive 74% of all funds raised. If we exceed our goal, we receive 85% of all funds raised from that point forward.

• New Projects: These funds will allow us to begin some important projects for our parish:

New HVAC for Chapel, new ceiling and insulation in the attics

Equip each classroom with Smart TV and lap top

Enhanced Security System for school building, Gym, Church and Chapel / for our security/

Refinish the floor in the Gym including a new logo for CYO

New sound system for the Church plus new video screens on the both front walls in the Church

Long term investment –Install solar panels on the roof of the school and the oratory house to reduce

energy costs. Continuing replacement of old metal windows with better insulated new ones. Con-tinue preventative maintenance of the parish and parish properties

• Each parish is given a campaign goal. Our campaign goal is to invite all parishioners to learn about the cam-paign and come together to reach our parish goal of $841,500.

• Thanks to the generosity of parishioners during my initial meetings, we have already raised more than $367,000 from just 41 parish families- that is 45% of our goal! While this outpouring of support is extremely humbling, it only represents a small portion of our parish community. We encourage the participation of every parish family to come together to meet our goal.

• I am deeply grateful for all of their efforts to help our parish and now I am inviting everyone to partici-pate.

• You may have noticed that you have not received any materials regarding the 2018 or 2019 Cardinal’s Appeal, and that is because that goal is actually included in this campaign.

At this time, everyone should be receiving campaign materials in the mail. I asked that you review the ma-terials and please return your decisions to myself, the Rectory or in the return envelope provided. I am really hoping to count on your support.

We will be having an in-pew commitment weekend in June and I hope to count on your support. Thank you for your support for our parish and please continue praying for the success of the campaign.

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis
