COSMOS 2019

Vidya Vikas Academy participated in Cosmos 2.0, an inter school competition organised by and at Loyola High School, Margao on 7th December 2019.

The purpose of this event was to give the students an experience of participating in at an inter-school level and thus boosting their talents/ skills through greater exposure.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON HUMAN RIGHTS

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on December 10th, 2019. The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation on December 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

A special assembly on Human Rights was held in the school hall on December 10th 2019.Students of class 9 participated in short skits to display the rights ensured by our constitution.

These skits were on day to day events and displayed the Right to Equality, Right to Freedom of Religion, Right to an adequate standard of living and the Right to Freedom of Expression.

Through these skits, the students wanted to make India a place where:

* men and women are treated equally,

*the word secular is a valued and respected word,

*the basic necessities like food are not an impossible luxury to half the population.

*where women have the right to walk about fearlessly.

The skits were informative and made the students aware of their basic rights.

MOCK PARLIAMENT

The monthly co-curricular activity for December’19 was Mock Parliament.

The students of class 9 A,B,C and 10 A,B,C participated in the activity.

The topic discussed was ‘Digitalisation of school education—Use of smart phones.

It was a hypothetical set up of the Lok Sabha where the students were divided in the ruling and opposition parties. Anvi Dessai was the speaker who presided over the house and saw that the decorum of the housed was maintained and even saw that the members did not use unparliamentary language. She even had to ask some members to yield the floor and later she had the house adjourned.

The bill was introduced by the ruling party leader Stuti Agarwal. Who gave the facts on the requirement of digitalisation of school education.

The Opposition leader Tiya Naik spoke on the irrelevance of the bill and how education for all is the motive of Indian government and it will be not be accomplished.

Vaibhav Prabhudesai and Joseph Fernandes were best speakers as they had facts which they used aptly in the arguments.

PRE-PRIMARY SPORTS FESTIVAL 2019-2020

The Pre-Primary Sports Festival was held on Saturday, 14th December 2019 at VidyaVikas Academy’s ground. Mr. Savio Leitao, Director of Physical Education and Sports, Shree Mallikarjun College, was the chief guest. The Pre-Primary students assembled on the ground. The programme began with the hoisting of school flag followed by the relay.

Our Pre-Primary students band assisted by the school, participated in the March past which enthralled the spectators. The races and games were based on the theme ‘Jungle Safari’. Races like ‘Banana Blast’, ‘Safe Shelter’, ‘On an Adventure’, ‘Little seeds for me to sow’, ‘FroggieLand’, ‘Royal Treat’, ‘Treetopia’, ‘Buzzing Bees’. The drills were ‘HakunaMatata’ of Junior Kg and ‘Go Green’ of Senior Kg.

With the pleasant weather and constant cheering from parents and the teachers, the little ones put up a wonderful display of determination and competitiveness to win the hearts of one and

all.

An exciting game was held for parents as well. The festival event concluded with the prize distribution to the winners of the relay races and other games.

STAR / LANTERN MAKING -ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH DECEMBER

December means, it’s time for all things red, green, merry and bright. It means festive decor, celebrating with friends, family and everything else that brings you joy. To commemorate this spirit, Vidya Vikas Academy conducted ‘Star and Lantern making activity’ for students of class 6 ,7 and 8.

The objective of this activity was to facilitate, team work and celebrate the joy of festivities. Students showcased the best of their craft making skills. Colourful lanterns and stars were put on display.

The best entries from each class were awarded certificates.

LECTURE SERIES BY EMINENT SCIENTISTS/FELLOWS OF INDIAN NATIONAL SCIENCE ACADEMY (INSA) INDIA.

Goa Science Centre and Planetarium, Miramar, Goa organized a “Lecture series by Eminent Scientists/Fellows of Indian National Science academy (INSA) India. On 17th and 18th December 2019, 40 students of Vidya Vikas Academy from classes 8 and 9 along with two teachers attended the same on 17th December 2019. We were fortunate to meet Dr. Felix Bast, a renowned Scientist who visited Antarctica.

He gave us an insight to the life in Antarctica and various research work carried out by different scientists all over the world. He discovered three species of algae. Interestingly two of them from Goa and one from Antarctica. He shared his experience of Antarctica expedition. He made us aware of the changes in the geographical conditions of our own planet and warned the future generation to take up a step towards saving our planet Earth. He shared some of his Eco friendly practise like cycling instead of driving to his work place.

He encouraged the students to do research and explained the different scholarship schemes available from the Ministry of Human and Development to support calibre students to achieve their goals in the field of Science. It was an inspiring talk for the students to develop their career in the field of research in pure Science.

SNEHA DHARA – A VISIT TO THE HOME FOR THE AGED.

“To care for those who cared for us is one of the highest honours.”

On the 19th of December a group of 32 students of class 9 visited Divine Providence Home for the Aged at Benaulim.

Nearly a month before, the students began preparing for this day, with a lot of fervour and excitement. The French students of Class 5 to 10 held an exhibition cum sale of artifacts, sweet and savoury items on the 30th of November, the proceeds of which were donated towards the expenditure incurred for Sneha Dhara.

Students of Class 1 to 10 generously donated sanitary items like bathing soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste as well as washing powder and packaged juice to be donated to the home for the aged.

The students of Class 9 handed over the donated items as well as personally distributed the snacks to the residents. The performed a few Christmas carols as well as a traditional dance to liven the spirits before the Christmas season.

The residents were pleased to see the children and requested them to sing a few more songs, which the students readily agreed to. The students were touched by the warmth and concern the residents showed towards them and were unwilling to leave as they wanted to spend some more time with them. The students returned back promising the residents to visit them again and spend some more time with them.

GOA LIBERATION DAY

19th December is a historical and significant day for the Goans. On this day in the year 1961, Goa was liberated from the Portuguese rule.

Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated the 58th Goa Liberation Day on 19th December 2019 with great enthusiasm and fervour.

The programme was as follows:

Principal Mrs. Joble Bijoy unfurled the National Flag followed by the National Anthem.

Thereafter the Principal addressed the students emphasizing the importance of this day and to have feeling of patriotism and gratitude towards our great freedom fighters for their sacrifices which led to the liberation of Goa.

She also informed that VVA has been awarded Best CBSE School in Goa for its Excellence in Innovative Practices, Best Techno-smart School of the Year (Digital) and Excellence in Safety and Security.

Thereafter a speech in Konkani was delivered by Miss Isha Kurade from Class 9 A on this occasion. Master Brisen Whyte from Class 11 gave a speech” Save Goa” highlighting the problems and solutions for the brighter furure of Goa. The pupils of Pre-Primary section sang a melodious Mando trained by Tr. Threasa. A group song “Sobit Goa Amache” trained by Sir Neil spread the feelings of patriotism and love for Goan culture. The students of Class 6, 7 and 8 enacted a street play giving a powerful message of “Save Environment”. This street play was trained by Sir Damodar Pattanshetty and won a third prize at the competition “Nakshatraz”. A Goan dance called “MHAJI SHANI MASTI” trained by Tr. Sharmila Naik was performed by the students of class 3 with great zeal and energy.

The Principal gave away various certificates, medals and trophies to the students who won at different competitions and at the NCC Camp by the N.C.C. Cadets and Voice of VVA.

The Principal congratulated the prize winners and encouraged the students to participate in many such activities. The programme was compered by Miss Durva Talaulikar.

PRE-PRIMARY GOA LIBERATION DAY CELEBRATION

‘Celebrating the land of the free and the home of the brave.’

‘My Goa, My Pride.’

Goa Liberation day was celebrated at Vidya Vikas Academy on 18th December 2019 with great enthusiasm by the pupils of Pre-Primary.

The teacher narrated to the students the significance of Goa Liberation day.The students of Senior Kg. C performed a Goan Kunbi dance on this occasion.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME (PRIMARY)

The importance of social and cultural activities is to prepare students for real life and strengthening their personal skills. Cultural activities not only help students to identify themselves but also assist students to develop themselves in a desired field and improve their skills of presentation, interpersonal communication and leadership. As cultural activities are of importance, Vidya Vikas Academy encourages all extra – curricular activities that are both in line with the educational objectives and also meet the needs of the students.

Keeping this in mind Vidya Vikas Academy organized a Cultural programme for the students of Class 1, Class 3 and Class 5. The main objective of this cultural programme was to give our students an exposure and platform to display their talents and at the same time overcome their stage fear.

The programme was held on 17th Dec 2019 for class 1ABC, 18th December for class 3ABC and 20th December for Class 5ABC. Students showcased their talents through singing, fashion show, monologue, skit and dance performances.

Principal, Vice – Principal, teachers and students were cordially invited to watch the programme and cheer the students performing. It was indeed colourful and kept the participants and the students amazed. The students enjoyed the programme and highly appreciated the same.

ENGLISH RECITATION FOR CLASSES 1-5

Poetry is a lot of things to a lot of people. It evokes emotions – joy, sorrow, anger, love and does so in a briefest way possible…. Lyric poetry generally expresses strong emotions about Love and Nature.

English Recitation for Class 1-5 was conducted in the month of December 2019.

Pupils of classes 1-3 recited the poems with confidence and expressions. The theme for Class 4 was Nature, Friendship, Hard work, Respect and Family. Pupils of Class 5 had to choose poems written by the following poets: Rabindranath Tagore, Robert Frost, Sarojini Naidu, Ruskin Bond and John Keats.

The main objective of the activity was to develop love, interest, confidence for the subject and to boost their English-speaking skills.

All the pupil actively participated with great enthusiasm on the given theme. Some pupils provided insights into the lives of the poets.

NO SCHOOL BAG DAY – DECEMBER

Theme: Winter Wonders

It’s that time of year again. December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas.

Keeping the spirit of Christmas and winter in mind the theme for the No Schoolbag Day was ‘Winter Wonders’. The students came beautifully dressed in red, green and white colour clothes and didn’t forget their Santa cap.

The event began by a special Christmas assembly that included the depiction of the story of Christmas, carol singing, Christmas fashion show, Christmas dance and the dancing of our beloved Santa who later went class wise greeting students and distributing sweets.

Later various activities were conducted in the class like Christmas card making, craft activities like making simple Christmas decorations, sharing food, singing and dancing.

Students were shown movies related to Christmas. A mock test was also conducted to prepare the students for the VVA Achiever’s Test.

It was an amazing learning experience and a fun filled day for the students as well as the teachers.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON CHRISTMAS BY NURSERY A, B AND C

The Pre – Primary section of Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated Christmas on 23-12-2019 with great enthusiasm and gaiety.

The nursery children enacted the story of Christmas and a live Tableu was shown, followed by carol singing and dance. The children were told about the significance of Christmas and New Year celebration.

The Pre-Primary corridors and classrooms were beautifully decorated with different Christmas symbols. The Highlight of the festival was the coming in of Santa to greet the children with sweets for one and all.

The programme concluded with the burning of the effigy of an old man to signify the end of the old year and welcoming of the new year.

LEADERSHIP CAMP

A Leadership camp was organised for the students of class 5 on 28th December 2019 in school. The students reported at 10:00 am in school. 65 students attended the camp.

The objective of the camp was to inculcate leadership qualities, the sense of team spirit and boost their confidence.

Mrs. Kiran Shah and her team conducted various activities which involved the art of communication, the leader in you, taking initiative and keys to creativity. This was Followed by laughter yoga, a treasure hunt, creative hour, games and an astronomy session conducted by the school teachers. Tokens in form of mini diaries were distributed to the students.

The camp ended at 7:00 pm

The students enjoyed the camp very much.

SENIOR SECONDARY SECTION December 12, 2019

TECHNOVA 4.0

The Department of Computer Science of Rosary Higher Secondary School Navelim- Goa, hosted “Technova 4.0” on 7th December 2019. It is an annual technology-based exhibition which showcases the work of students in the field of science and technology. The chief guest, Mr. Swapnil Nesarkar, an advertisement strategist, enlightened the students on current trends of how IT has emerged in recent times and how the field is rapidly changing. Mr. Swapnil also shed light on how people can use the Gartner hype cycle to help in forecasting the recent trends and their effects on society and business. Students of class X and XI represented Vidya Vikas Academy in this event.

The Event started off with an inaugural ceremony followed by two technical event competitions (Logo Designing and Digital Treasure Hunt). The students of VVA emerged winners in the technical competitions.

It was an illuminating and an inspiring experience for the students.

SUPER BRAIN YOGA REPORT

Students of Vidya Vikas Academy Senior Secondary Section had a session on Yoga on 26th November, 2019. Yoga instructor, Ms. Archana Sand, accompanied by colleagues, Ms. Rashmi and Ms. Shami made the students experience the power of the brain through various exercises. The yoga instructor picked few students from the audience for the demonstration of exercises. They highlighted the importance of super brain yoga through the presentation and demonstrated the super brain yoga for everyone.

The Yoga instructor appealed to the students to include yoga in their daily routine for its wholesome and calming effects on the mind, body and soul.

ORIENTATION ON FASHION AND DESIGN

Students of Vidya Vikas Academy attended a career talk on ‘Fashion and Design’ on 10th December, 2019. Ms. Ethel Mesquita, Sales Specialist from Istituto Marangoni, Mumbai conducted this career Talk in our school. She featured all the career options available in Fashion, Design, Business and Styling in their Institution. She added to the information of the students by showing various videos on Fashion Brands. The students were much enthused about the information provided by the speaker in this field.

Ms. Ethel appreciated the questions asked by the students and answered them efficiently. The talk was informative and elucidative.

STRESS MANAGEMENT TALK

Stress produces numerous physical and mental symptoms which vary according to each individual’s situational factors. The process of stress management is named as one of the keys to a blissful and successful life in modern society. On 6th December 2019, Vidya Vikas Academy Senior Secondary Section organised a talk for the students of class XI and XII on ‘Stress management’.

The guest speaker, Ms. Ketaki Porob Gadekar, highlighted few techniques and habits that students can follow up in their day to day life to keep themselves away from stress. She also had a session of meditation for few minutes and advised the students to keep a routine every day. The information given by the speaker helped the students to fix their daily food habits and also to maintain hygiene. Ms. Ketaki concluded the talk by saying, “Be constantly focused on what you have to achieve in life without the fear of peer pressure”.

The talk was interesting and Informative.

BRAINFEED SCHOOL EXCELLENCE AWARD 2019

Vidya Vikas Academy brings home another honour! It has been bestowed with the School Excellence Award 2019 at the Brainfeed 7th National Conference. VVA was awarded with Best CBSE School in Goa, Excellence in Innovative Practices, Best Techno-smart School of the Year (Digital) and Excellence in Safety and Security.

The conference acknowledged the Top schools of India in various categories on December 6, 2019 at Hitex Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, Telangana.

The prestigious award is in recognition of excellence in the education sector and is awarded to deserving top 500 schools and educational organizations all over the country.

ELOCUTION COMPETITION

The Ave Maria Joy of Giving Foundation jointly with Fr. Basilio Andrade Charitable Trust and Associacao Academica de Majorda, Utorda, Calata, organised an All Goa Fr. Basilio Andrade Memorial English Elocution Competition on 7th December 2019 at 9 a.m. in the Associacao Academica Club Hall near Majorda Church.

The competition was held in two categories. The topic of the elocution for the Secondary School Section was ‘How Schools as an educational institution can contribute towards Swachh Bharat’. The topic for the Higher Secondary School Section was ‘Goa -Pearl of the East is losing its shine. How can we prevent it?’

Brisen Oscar Coutinho Whyte from class 11 participated for the competition and won the first place in the Higher Secondary School category. He was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 1000/-.

BRICSMATH REPORT

Bricsmath.com is the annual International online Math / General Ability competition for the students of the grades 1 – 12 in BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). Students of Vidya Vikas Academy Senior Secondary Section participated in this competition. Students had a trial round from 12th October – 12th November, 2019 and the competition was held from 13th November – 13th December, 2019.

This exam was held to cultivate interest in Mathematics Week and to develop logical reasoning skills as well as to unite children from different countries. This activity was also a part of the National Mathematics Week in our school.

NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY

National Mathematics Day is observed on 22nd December 2019 every year as the birth anniversary of the great mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. To celebrate this day, a special assembly was organised for the students of Senior Secondary Section of Vidya Vikas Academy on 14th December 2019.

The assembly started with the history of the Srinivasa Ramanujan depicting his contributions towards Mathematical Analysis, Number Theory and so on. During the assembly, a quiz based on Maths was organised for the students. This gathering was held to pay tribute to the legends in Mathematics and also to sustain the mathematical culture of India. The assembly was a part of the National Mathematics Week.

TERRE OLYMPIAD

ERRE Olympiad is a learning platform to enhance environmental awareness to save the Earth for future Sustainability. It is an initiative of TERRE Policy Centre to create and enhance awareness among the youth on the need and importance of a healthy environment and sustainable development through a digital platform.

To create an awareness about the same, students of class 11 and 12 participated in TERREGREEN Olympiad through the online portal. The first round of the Olympiad was conducted in the school campus in the month of September. 18 students of Vidya Vikas Academy got selected for the second round which was held in the month of December.
