VIRASAT: SPREADING AWARENESS ONE STEP AT A TIME HERITAGE WALK BY VIDYA VIKAS ACADEMY.

On occasion of its silver jubilee celebration VVM’s Vidya Vikas Academy organised a heritage walk ‘Virasat: Spreading Awareness, One Step At A Time’, on Sunday, 2nd December, 2018 from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

The aim of the walk was to reconnect the current generation with the history and heritage of Margao City. The walk commenced at the Margao Municipal Building at 4.00 pm and covered a distance of 1.5 kms, unveiling the unheard stories about the eminent Goan personalities such as Luis Menezes Braganza, A. V. Lorenco and others and at places like Aga Khan Garden, Lohia Maidan, Cidas Almas Chapel etc.

Mr. Lynn Barreto Miranda of Goan Shutterbugs, who is passionate about Goan history and heritage was invited to guide the tour. He commented, “It is a good initiative and it’s a pleasure to share the info about Margao’s history and heritage with the next generation.” A total of 64 participants including the Principal, the Vice Principal, the students and the staff members of Vidya Vikas Academy joined the walk.

It provided an enriching urban heritage experience to the students and the staff. Anya Gonsalves, a participant shared her experience saying, “It was an amazing little tour and a wonderful way to

celebrate the 25th anniversary of a school. It was very informative and a good learning opportunity.” Principal Ms Joble Bijoy also commented that, “Heritage walk ‘Virasat’ created awareness about the rich heritage and history of the places and monuments in the vicinity of Margao Municipality and there is a need to create awareness of these great heritage sites. “

13th ANNUAL SCIENCE EXHIBITION

Damodar Higher Secondary School, Comba, Margao conducted its 13th Annual Science Exhibition With collaboration with Department of Science, Technology and Environment (Government of Goa) on the 6th and 7th of December 2018 at Babu Naik Hall.

There were four categories A, B, C and D. Four teams of our school participated comprising

Sejal Biradar and Arya Bhagwat of 7C for category A

Punya Walke and Denver Lazaro of 7A for category A and won first prize for their experiment Carbondioxide Cannon.

Esh Prabhu Desai and Om Shet Gaonkar of 9B for category B and won 5th prize for their experiment Water Memory.

Joseph Fernandes and Nihaal Virgincar of 9C for category B and won 3rd prize for their experiment Natural Water Filter.

The participants were appreciated for showing their keen interest in this exhibition and were awarded with certificates and trophies for the winners that were sponsored by Nitte,Mangalore. Tr. Shilpa Sukumaran, Tr.Sonali Salunke, Tr.Afshan Shaikh guided, co-ordinated and accompanied the students.

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY – SPECIAL ASSEMBLY

The Human Rights Special Assembly was conducted on the 10th of December 2018.

The participants for the assembly were class 10 B students who very enthusiastically made posters showing the celebration of the 70th year of Human Rights since its adoption in 1948.

The assembly began with introduction about Human Rights by Aadi Nesarkar. There was message by Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for

Human Rights regarding seventy years of Human Rights played as a video.

The students also sang a song ‘We are the World’ attracting all the students to sing along.

There was a video shown on what do human rights mean, deal with and the need for human rights in today’s world after decades of the World War II.

A quiz was conducted by Amey Karwarker to just get a pulse of student’s understanding of the human rights.

The assembly was concluded by a mash up video containing messages from students of different classes.

PRE-PRIMARY SPORTS FESTIVAL

The Pre-Primary sports festival was held on the 15th of December 2018 at VVM’S Campus Margao Goa. The theme for the sports festival was “AT THE BEACH”.

The Chief Guest for the day, Dr. Anthony Lobo Physical Director of St. Joseph High School, Calangute, was welcomed by the students. The Chief Guest then hoisted the flag in the presence of the Principal, Mrs. Joble Bijoy.

The programme commenced with a torch relay and March past followed by a spectacular performance by all the children of the pre-primary section. All the classes showcased various Drills and class wise team races related to the theme, a few to name were the Drill by Jr. Kg classes as “No Tan “, races like “Fun In The Sun”, “Surf Safe” And “Bon Voyage”, using colorful beach gadgets and equipment’s as props.

There were also 20m, 30m and 40m running races held. The Nursery Tiny Tots performed a dance on a peppy song “Let’s Go Deep” which enthralled the audience. The Sr. Kg children displayed a Drill using Frisbee’s to thrill the spectators with their moves and formations. There was also a “parents game” passing the beach items and there were three winners who won a prize.

The sports festival concluded with Chief Guests Address to the gathering, who appreciated all the students and the teachers and also asked the parents to encourage their children to participate in outdoor games. All the winners were felicitated with a certificate and a trophy and each participant was given a prize to keep up the spirit of sportsmanship.

The school flag was lowered and the National Anthem was sung.

CLAY MODELING / TOY MAKING

The clay modeling activity was held on 18th December for the primary classes during the first two periods. All students participated in this activity enthusiastically. The best five students were selected from each class.

This activity was a perfect platform for creative minds to meet their colourful desires. It helped children to stimulate their imagination, enhance creativity, eye –hand coordination and develop their motor skills.

NO SCHOOL BAG DAY (CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION)

Christmas is a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. It is filled with joy, laughter, light and music. Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated Christmas on 18th December, 2018. Students of classes 1 to 5, dressed in red, white and green party clothes participated in this celebration.

The Celebration comprised of a special assembly, whereby students of Class 1 and 2 presented a dance; some students were dressed as Christmas symbols and spoke about the significance of each symbol; students of class 3 were dressed as Christmas characters (Santa Claus, Christmas tree, elves, Grinch, Angels, Candles etc.) and spoke about its significance .Students of class 4 sang Christmas Carols and students of class 5 presented a Christmas dance. The Assembly concluded with the entry of Mr. Santa, who was welcomed by the students with joy and glee.

After the special assembly, some fun activities were conducted in the respective classes. The students had a great time from their usual routine class work.

GOA LIBERATION DAY

Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated the 57th Goa Liberation Day on 19th December 2018 with great enthusiasm

The programme was as follows:

Principal Mrs. Joble Bijoy unfurled the National Flag followed by the National Anthem. Thereafter the Principal addressed the students emphasizing the importance of this day and to have feeling of patriotism and gratitude towards our great freedom fighters for their sacrifices which led to the liberation of Goa.

A speech in Konkani was delivered by Miss Ananya Naik on this occasion. The pupils sang songs trained by Sir Neil. Staff members Sir Neil, Tr. Tanula and Tr. Vanessa sang a melodious song. A monologue was delivered by Master Shaurya Shetgaonkar. A Goan dance called “MARIA PITACHE” was performed by the students of class 4 with great zeal and energy.

Principal gave away various certificates and trophies to the students won at different state level competitions and the trophies and medals won at the NCC Camp by the N.C.C. Cadets of Vidya Vikas Academy.

The Principal congratulated the prize winners and encouraged the students to participate in many such activities. The programme was compered by Miss Siya Nayak of Class 4 A.

CHRISTMAS ASSEMBLY

The pre-Primary section of Vidya Vikas Academy Celebrated the festival of Christmas on 21-12-18 with great pomp and show.

The children enacted and depicted a live crib. Showing the birth of Jesus.

The teachers discussed the significance and festivities of the festival followed by carol singing, a dance and a fashion show themed Christmas symbols.

The highlight of the festival was the grand entry of Mr. & Mrs. Santa to greet the children.

The celebration concluded with the burning of the old man to signify the end of the year and beginning of a new year.

NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY

National Mathematics Day is celebrated in India to pay tribute to the great mathematicians of India. It is important to promote and cultivate the magnificent tradition of Indian mathematics by celebrating National Mathematics Day.

Vidya Vikas Academy commemorated this day on 21st December’2018. The objective was to kindle interest and love for the subject and appreciate the work done by great Indian Mathematicians like Brahmagupta, Aryabhatta, and Srinivasa Ramanujan.

A special assembly was conducted by students of class 8C. The objective of celebrating the day was narrated to the students. A skit was performed to showcase the importance of Mathematics in our day to day life. They were also shown a short documentary on Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Later students of class 8C and 8A organized a small Math’s Puzzle zone where students of class 6A/B/C had to come and solve the puzzles. The students enjoyed the entire experience. Mathematics teachers from class 1 to 5 organized Math games and activities in their classrooms.

ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH: ACTOR FOR A DAY

The activity of the month for the month of December was -Actor for a Day. This activity was conducted for the students of classes 6, 7 and 8.

The students presented their acts in class and the three best acts were selected by the class teachers. These selected students performed their acts in front of the audience on 22nd December 2018.

The students enjoyed the activity as it was very entertaining. There were solo and group performances presented in Konkani, Hindi and English.

The objective of this activity was to give the students an opportunity to display their talents as well as to build up their confidence to overcome stage fear.

SENIOR SECONDARY SECTION December 15, 2018

TECHNOBIT 2018

Second edition of “Technobit 2K18”, IT Fest was hosted by Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao-Goa on 15th December 2018 for all the higher secondary schools across the state of Goa.

Students from the Senior Secondary Section represented VVA for the same.

It was a fun filled event which not only contained technical events but also hosted various engaging games such as FIFA and PUBG.

The technical events included Quiz, Web Designing, Photo Editing along with a debate competition. All the participating students showed positive attitude and competitive spirit towards the event.

As a result of cumulative efforts of the students, Vidya Vikas Academy emerged as the runners-up of “Technobit 2K18”. The students were highly appreciated for their hard work and IT skills. The event also provided the students with a very good platform to showcase their flairs.
