IMZ Avant Pre-mière Screenings at MIDEM26 – 29 January 2013 |   Cannes, France

So we did it again and had a-nother very satisfactory 29th A-vant Première event at midem 2013.We started off with very producti-ve Directorate and Board mee-tings which were followed by the announcement of the new IMZ President Arild Erikstad (NRK). A great thank you to Christ Hunt for his devoted work so far and a warm welcome to Arild! We wish Christ Hunt the best of luck for his further activities and a lot of success for Arild! As in the past couple of years, the IMZ could hold the screenings in a true cinema hall with a massive screen, sophisticated technical equipment and more than 300 seats.  Over a period of four days, no fewer than 52 companies pre-sented their show reels, including a record number of altogether 413 productions of classical music, world music and jazz as well as classical ballet and contemporary dance. The IMZ stand remained at its usual and prominent location, right by the main entrance and with a dazzling sea view. As al-ways it was a lively centre of at-traction for all IMZ members and a busy venue for many productive meetings. Thanks to all those who contribu-ted to the success of this stay in sunny Cannes! We are looking forward to another successful Avant Première event in 2013!

Clasart Classic Pre-sents ...

Maria Stuarda Starring Joyce DiDonato

Clasart Classic presents one of the highlights of the current Met-sea-son: The first-ever Met production of Donizetti’s intensely dramatic historical opera Maria Stuarda which premiered on New Year’s Eve 2013. In this production, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, who gave an “ex-quisitely proportioned, remarkably sensitive performance” (Financial Times), takes on the virtuosic bel canto role of the doomed Mary, Queen of Scots. South African so-prano Elza van den Heever makes her Met debut as Mary’s rival, the formidable Queen Elizabeth I, and Matthew Polenzani sings Leicester, the nobleman caught between the two dueling monarchs. Maurizio Benini conducts. After last sea-son’s staging of Donizetti’s Tudor drama Anna Bolena, Director Da-vid McVicar turns to the second opera of Donizetti’s trilogy. His production takes a traditional ap-proach, but with some vivid co-lours and stark imagery to lend a contemporary touch to enormous period gowns and appropriate props. The simplicity of the set focuses attention on Donizetti's multifaceted characters. It is the contagious energy between the duelling divas that brings real drama to the stage, culminating in the confrontation scene as Elisa-beth and Mary hurl fiery insults at one another.

Next to Maria Stuarda, hailed by The New York Times as “musically splendid and intensely dramatic

COL LEGNOAlpi and Stubenmu-sic

The “Stube” is the parlor in a farmhouse, usually panelled in wood, where people go to rest, to celebrate, to mourn, and to make music. Alexandra Dienz, Christof Dienz, Barbara Romen, and Gun-ter Schneider guide us into a fri-endly and sophisticated version of this multi-purpose meeting place. The first CD comprises song-like pieces in various interpretations,

while on the second CD the focus is skillfully shifted from structures to sounds. The musicians delve deep into the nature of their in-struments, exploring their poten-tial as sound-generating bodies, leading us from seemingly familiar models to free musical moods. Deep-reaching roots are carefully unearthed, grafted, and propaga-ted with great intelligence and de-votion, and the result is pure de-light. More info here.

The movie „Alpi“ by Armin Linke wasn’t made in context with the music of Quadrat:sch, but can be a logical combination. That’s why a movie still found its way into the booklet of the CD.W a t c h a t r a i l e r a t : http://www.arminlinke.com/alpi/For further information, please c o n t a c t M i k e B r e n e i s : [email protected]
