IMZ ACADEMIES AT ITF GOLDEN PRAGUE 6 – 7 October 2014 | Prague, Czech Republic

In 2013, as part of the 50th ITF Golden Prague, the IMZ held the very first IMZ Academy, a highly practical, im-mersive and detailed master class in the multi-camera capture of classical music for television. In 2014, the IMZ Academy at ITF Golden Prague was present with two fur-ther settings:

On 6 October, the IMZ Mini Academy: Sharpen up your Showreel! was opened to the public. Jan Younghusband (BBC, UK) and Peter Maniura (BBC Arts Online, Launch Director) shared tips and thoughts about the art of making the best possible showreel. In the context of the decision of the IMZ Board to restructure the showreels for the fu-ture Avant Première Screenings, the session was vital for all IMZ members as well as all participants interested in producing a state-of-the-art trailer giving a compact and attractive overview of their manifold programmes.

On 7 October, the IMZ Academy Session: What’s the Best Way to Engage with your Audiences in a Con-nected World? was realized. Peter Maniura, who has been involved in launching two major online arts services The Space and BBC Arts Online, the BBC’s new live and on-demand arts service, was moderating the session. The goal of this session was to discover how the IMZ Acade-my can help in that sector, to examine the experience and strategies of different organisations and to compare some

good practices realized. In a 3-hour closed expert ses-sion renowned participants shared lessons learned and discussed possible strategies. We would like to thank our guests for their valuable input: Urban Ward (Communica-tions Director, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra), Måns Pär Fogelberg (Responsible for audience and digital me-dia, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra), Tony Followell (Head of ROH Media, Royal Opera House Covent Garden), Nicholas Payne (General Director, Opera Europa), Tobias Möller (Director of Marketing and Communication, Ber-lin Phil Media, Berliner Philharmoniker), Bernd Hellthaler (Managing Director, EuroArts Music International), Franz Patay (IMZ Secretary General) and Henk van der Meulen (Head of the Royal Conservertoire of The Hague & IMZ Vice President). The fruitful discussion was followed by a public Report Back session of initial recommendations and key find-ings and rounded-off by an audience discussion.

Thanks to our respected guests, to our session-hosts Jan Younghusband and Peter Maniura and, of course, to our partners, the experience and strategies of different organ-isations, for getting an overview of best practise for the realization of these two sessions.

BALLETBOYZ

BalletBoyz is a dance and film-making company set up in 2000 by former Royal Ballet dancers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt. It has two key objectives: To make pos-sible the most interesting dance by working with the very best choreographers, composers, artists and designers; and to reach new audiences by presenting it in innova-tive, accessible and entertaining formats. The company has won Olivier, Time Out and Critics’ Circle Awards for its stage work as well as an International Emmy, a Rose d’Or and a Golden Prague for its documentaries. Last year it was awarded the UK's Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Best Independent Company 2013.

BalletBoyz is now developing its digital programme to include live-streamed events directly from the rehearsal studio, inviting access to the creative process – the first event was successfully screened in June 2014. It cur-rently has in production a documentary for the BBC, a full-length feature film for the international market and two brand new stage works to premiere in 2015. In 2016 it will host the first London dance screen film festival in collaboration with IMZ.

Now In Production HITMAKERS – THE CHANGING FACE OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Hitmakers. Groundbreaking artists. Visionary industry players and com-panies. Innovative technology. These crucial components have shaped the music business over the past 100 years, changing pop culture in the process. The music industry once again is un-dergoing seismic transformation. A $45 billion dollar industry has shrunk to $15 billion. YouTube is the new ra-dio, the development goes from vinyl to CD to download to stream. Is the game changing?

Hitmakers will provide a road map through the decades – the major happenings and characters of the re-cord industry. The record business is inherently cyclical – a generation of rock and roll impresarios finds itself facing the challenges of the digital age. But one thing that never chang-es is the need for the catalysts and eyewitnesses, „record men/women“, and the great artists. They are the hit-makers.Besides artists like Melissa Etheridge, Questlove, Lorde and Steve Aoki who deliver insight into their personal sto-ry of success, we meet game chang-ing artist managers, music label mav-ericks, historians and journalists who will put into perspective the world that surrounds the hitmakers.Produced by ACE in co-production with EuroArts Music, ZDF/arte. SWING STORIES - A FILM BY ANDREAS MORELL ON ARTE AND THE BIG SCREEN

800 dressed-up women and men swarm into a ballroom. They are cel-ebrating the twenties, thirties and forties at a party called Bohème Sau-vage. Swing events are becoming increasingly popular in Berlin now-adays. A renaissance like never be-fore. „Swing is the love of my live“,

confesses Big-Band-Leader An-drej Hermlin. His Swing Dance Or-chestra performs classics by Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald or Tommy Doresey. Hermlin is a perfectionist. Not only the desks of the orchestra look like from the thirties. Everything – shoes, suit and hair with pomade – hints at former times. So are the other performers taking part in this swing-ing film: The Skylarks, Elle G, The Goodnight Circus…Why do dancing and music of the swing era still fascinate people now-adays? The music and dance film by Andreas Morell dives into the intense feeling of this scene that is full of life, happiness and swing.

Don’t miss out on the next chance to get an idea of the experience:
