IMZ INTERNAL NEWSIMZ AT THE 48TH ITF GOLDEN PRAGUE 15 – 19 October 2011 / Žofín Palace, Prague (CZ)

The World Of Music And Dance Is Within Your Reach

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the IMZ have once again decided to join forces to

promote and strengthen the arts in the audio-visual media. Thus, at the 48th edition of the ITF

Golden Prague, the IMZ presented the Golden Prague Premieres and held the first Pitching Session

in cooperation with the EBU.

The programmes highlighted in the framework of the Golden Prague Premieres

(screenings) in the Small Hall at Zofin Palace:

Golden Prague Premiere I: The Vienna State Opera (TV Kultura, Russia) – The famous

opera house seen through the eyes of Russian artists

Golden Prague Premiere II:The Beauty of the Voice (Loft, Germany) – A documentary

about the international opera studio at the Zurich Opera, led by Mexican tenor Francisco Araiza.

Both productions were enthusiastically received by the audience.

On Monday, 17 October the EBU and IMZ Pitching Session took place. During their first

jointly organised Pitching session in Golden Prague, the EBU and the IMZ were looking forward to

selecting at least one new original project/event every year (from

2012 to 2014) aiming at prime time international audiences which will

be offered to all members within the EBU and the IMZ.

Five projects were pitched to the high-profile jury consisting of

Bettina Brinkmann, EBU, Marie-Odile Demay, MO Demay

Entertainment, Arild Erikstad, NRK, Peter Maniura, BBC, Lothar

Mattner, WDR and Erwin Stürzer, Arthaus Musik GmbH.

Of course, in general the festival was open to anyone interested in

high-quality music and dance programmes and films on the TV screen.

Festival participants had the chance to view all competition

programmes submitted to the 48th ITF Golden Prague in the festival's

video library.

We look forward to the next ITF Golden Prague in October 2012!

IMZ WORLD MUSIC FILM SCREENINGS AT WOMEX 2011

For the third and last time in Copenhagen,

after five days of good work and tons of

amazing music WOMEX successfully

completed its 17th edition. With 2250

delegates from 98 countries, 700

companies, 270 stands, 20 conference

sessions, 60 acts from 52 countries and 13

movies at the IMZ World Music

Film Screenings this is what it takes to

be the most important professional

market for world music.

The tenth and thus anniversary

edition of the IMZ World Music

Film Screenings with a collection of 13

thrilling films (with one last minute update)

was not only enthusiastically received but

also noted highly increased attendance

figures.

On the first screening day, the films took

us to moving trips from Andalusia with

Good singing hurts, over the Gibraltar

to hear a Griot of Senegal raising his

voice, back to Germany with Global

Local – Forays into a new music

scene in Cologne discovering a

flourishing new musical landscape.

The second day, mainly dedicated to

women, introduced rebetiko singer Rosa

Eskenazy in My sweet canary,

followed by the hurricane-like The

Godmother of Rock & Roll

Sister Rosetta Tharpe and

another legend, Calypso Rose The

Lioness of the Jungle. In the

afternoon Mokoomba, from one

riverbank to another provided

an insight into the life of a young band

from Zimbabwe while Frekuensia

Kolombiana transported the

rapped messages of South America’s

youth.

The last screening day took us to

Morocco and the depths of Arab

Andalusian music in Nuba of Gold

and Light. We then flew over to

Haiti under the sound of the 62 year old

Orchestre Septentrional in When the

Drum Is Beating . Afterwards in

Dharohar (A Legacy) we saw an

enthusiastic musical cooperation melting

cultural and religious divides in India. Creole

Cousins - A portrait of Lindigo in

Brazil revealed a common musical

inheritance of two places as far apart as La

Reunion and Brazil. Finally The Baroque

Nomade in Eth iopia , on the

encounter with the Azmari took us

back to the 17th century in Abyssinia to

CLASART CLASSIC

Clasart Classic Wins Echo Klassik 2011

The recording of Halévy’s opera Clari, a joint production of Clasart

Classic and the Zurich Opera directed by Felix Breisach, was awarded

the Echo Klassik 2011 as best “Music DVD Production of the Year

(Opera).”

The entertaining first performance of the opera rarity in the

acclaimed modern-day production of Moshe Leiser and Patrice

Caurier advanced to become a surprise hit at the Zurich Opera. The

fact that Clari was freed from the dust of archives 180 years after its

world premiere is largely due to Cecilia Bartoli: on the trail of the

legendary soprano Maria Malibran, Bartoli came across the opera in

which the phenomenal singer embodied the title role in her day.

Supported by the Orchestra La Scintilla, “la Bartoli” has infused this

opera with new life…

Clasart Classic’s close collaboration with Cecilia Bartoli

will be continued soon: In 2012, the first year of her artistic

directorship of the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, Handel’s Baroque opera

Giulio Cesare will be on the programme. Singing alongside Cecilia

Bartoli are Andreas Scholl, Philippe Jaroussky and Anne-Sophie von

Otter. Giovanni Antonini conducts the original-instrument ensemble Il

Giardino Armonico. Clasart Classic is planning to record this musical

event.
