IMZ INTERNAL NEWS
HAPPY BIRTHDAY IMZ!
LOOKING BACK ON HALF A CENTURY…
… of communicating the worlds of dance and the musics of the world, of opening
minds, broadening platforms, new horizons, solid playgrounds, of on-screen nexus
and backstage plexus…
For 50 YEARS now, the IMZ has made a real contribution to the businesses of
its members:
For an opera house it provides an instant media policy along with every element
needed to carry it out. For a broadcaster, it‘s every stage of the supply chain. For
producers and distributors, it‘s their entire global market. For everyone, it‘s a
valuable network, a forum for discussion, a showcase for productions, a lobbying
group, a database, and an information exchange.
How did it all begin?
Founded in 1961…
… under the aegis of UNESCO and initiated by Wilfried Scheib, Head of Music
at ORF those days, the IMZ, with base in Vienna, started off from a handful of
European members, who were mainly involved in business fields around classical
music. Since then the IMZ has been dedicating itself to the worldwide
development and promotion through audio-visual media of all forms of
classical, jazz, world and contemporary music, as well as classical and
contemporary dance.
Today…
… it‘s the one-stop shop for anyone in any position in the value chain from
music and dance creation to the buying public, with a membership including the
broadest range of music and media related organisations: public broadcasters;
independent producers; pay-tv companies; distributors; opera houses or festival
organisations; educational institutions; music publishing houses; record and DVD
labels; cinema and new media specialists…
Just think of your personal IMZ history and let us celebrate THE IMZ’s 50th
ANNIVERSARY IN 2011!

ACCENTUS MUSIC
MARTHA ARGERICH AND MISCHA MAISKY PRESENTING THE ROMANTIC OFFERING
A WORLD PREMIERE AT THE KKL LUCERNE
Featuring Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky, the Lucerne Symphony
Orchestra under the baton of Neeme Järvi will present the world premiere of
Rodion Shchedrin’s new Concerto for cello, piano and orchestra
on 9 February 2011 at the KKL Lucerne. The LSO, Switzerland’s oldest
symphony orchestra, has won an international standing that extends far
beyond its home base. Rodion Shchedrin is one of the most famous and
popular Russian composers of our time. He has received numerous
international prizes and awards and has been commissioned by many
prominent figures and orchestras of the 20th century such as Leonard
Bernstein, Lorin Maazel and the New York Philharmonic.
“My Double Concerto is subtitled Romantic offering, which in my opinion
provides a comprehensive definition of the overall concept and intellectual content of
the musical material in the score. I have created the work for the wonderful soloists
Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky to whom the composition is also dedicated. I
have attempted to depict and highlight the most distinctive individual qualities of the
two musicians.”
(Rodion Shchedrin)
Programme:
Antonín Dvořák: Scherzo capriccioso in D flat major, op. 66
Rodion Shchedrin: Concerto for piano, violoncello und orchestra “Romantic Offering”
César Franck: Sonata for violoncello and piano in A major
Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 9 in E flat major, op. 70
An HD production of ACCENTUS Music in coproduction with Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and SRF
