Puccini’s La Bohème Conducted By Riccardo Chailly:New Accentus Production At Va-lencia’s Palau De Les Arts Reina Sofía

Riccardo Chailly is the leading conductor of Giacomo Puccini’s operas today. In December 2012, he conducted the acclaimed new production of La Bohème at Va-lencia’s Palau de les Arts (Direc-tion, Sets and Lighting: Davide Livermore). A co-production of Accentus Mu-sic, UNITEL, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía Valencia and CLASSI-CA; TV-director: Michael Beyer.

Christmas Concert With Ruth Ziesak

The Renaissance town of Marien-berg at the very heart of the histo-ric Erzgebirge has been the setting for a concert of classical and sea-sonal works on 1 December 2012. The Sächsische Bläserphilharmo-nie, Germany’s only classical or-chestra made up exclusively of wind instruments, strives for the highest musical standards in a spirit of fidelity to the works in its repertory. The Rundfunk-Jugend-chor Wernigerode is one of Ger-many’s leading youth choirs and is known for its homogeneous textu-res and transparent sonorities. These two distinguished ensemb-les have been joined by the pro-minent German soprano Ruth Zi-esak.A Production of Accentus Music in co-production with MDR in co-o-peration with Arte

Clasart Classic at midem 2013

Richard Wagner

Clasart Classic makes its contribu-tion to Wagner’s bicentennial by presenting a new production of Parsifal from the Metropolitan Opera. Jonas Kaufmann stars in the title role. His fellow Wagneri-ans include Katarina Dalayman, Peter Mattei, Evgeny Nikitin and René Pape. The conductor is Da-niele Gatti.Recently completed, the Met’s new production of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen features a cast of today’s greatest Wagnerian singers, led by Bryn Terfel, De-borah Voigt, Jay Hunter Morris, and Jonas Kaufmann. The cycle is conducted by James Levine and Fabio Luisi.

Giuseppe Verdi

Celebrating Verdi’s 200th anni-versary, Clasart Classic gives a special mention to two new pro-ductions from the Met: In Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, Sondra Radvanovsky, Marcelo Álvarez and Dmitri Hvorostovsky lead an outstanding cast. In director Mi-chael Mayer’s new production of Verdi’s tragedy Rigoletto, Piotr Beczala is the womanizing Duke, Željko Lučić is Rigoletto, and Dia-na Damrau is Gilda.

Cecilia Bartoli

A third focus is on Cecilia Bartoli. In Händel's Giulio Cesare, recor-ded at this year's Salzburg Whitsun Festival, Bartoli has sur-rounded herself with no one less than Andreas Scholl, Philippe Ja-

The UNITEL Wagner catalogue contains three complete Ring cy-cles: the groundbreaking Ring by Patrice Chéreau for the first time in High Definition, produced at the Bayreuth Festival, the equally fa-mous “Kupfer Ring” by Harry Kup-fer, also from Bayreuth, and the critically acclaimed “Ring of the 21st Century” by FURA DELS BAUS from Valencia.Of course, UNITEL offers master interpretations of all the other gre-at Wagner operas, from Rienzi to Parsifal, too.

Verdi

A clear highlight of the Verdi year will be the performance of the Ver-di Requiem from Teatro alla Scala in Milan with Anja Harteros, Elīna Garanča, Jonas Kaufmann and René Pape, accompanied by the Chorus and Orchestra of La Scala and their principal conductor Da-niel Barenboim. With TUTTO VERDI, for the first time ever, all 26 Verdi operas are available in High Definition and with Surround Sound. UNITEL – in collaboration with Teatro Regio di Parma where most of the operas have been produced as well as with RAI, Dynamic and further theatres – has recorded the series over the past years. A unique pro-ject! The documentary “Verdi’s backyard” (52’) presents the home region of Giuseppe Verdi, the area in and around Bussetto and Par-ma, where Verdi was born and has spent most of the time of his life.Of course, the regular Verdi Cata-logue is equally compelling, featu-ring the legendary UNITEL films by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, Franco Zeffi-relli and Jérôme Savay. With a stel-lar cast featuring Luciano Pavarot-

ti, Edita Gruberová, Leontyne Pri-ce, Renato Bruson, Leo Nucci, Ruggiero Raimondi, Mirella Freni, Plácido Domingo, Anna Netrebko and Rollando Villazón, led by con-ductors like Herbert von Karajan, Riccardo Muti, Georg Solti, Riccar-do Chailly, James Levine and Lorin Maazel.

Verdi And Wagner

In Verdi and Wagner (6 x 25’ and 1 x 52’, produced by makido film for ZDF/Arte), we get to know all a-bout the two masterminds, so-mewhat rivals at the time, who tragically never met each other in their lifetime. The Salzburg Festival will celebrate the two composers with new pro-ductions of Don Carlos, Falstaff, Die Meistersinger and others...

Please contact UNITEL for all mat-ters concerning pre-sales and co-productions and/or C Major Enter-tainment, Unitel’s exclusive distri-bution partner, for further informa-tion and sales.

ORF-Enterprise

As we are approaching Midem, ORF-Enterprise proudly presents two special programme highlights for 2013 television:

Musically – CulinaryGioacchino Rossini – The Swan of Pesaro (45’, HD)

Musically – Culinary is a success-ful series of rather unconventional documentaries that follow the trails of famous composers. The brand-new eighth episode is about Gioacchino Rossini, also called “The Swan of Pesaro“, na-med after his place of birth. In Pesaro he spent his teens and started his great career as a com-poser of operas. This is also the place where he had his first culina-ry experiences… The documentary is a journey through the province Marken and the town Pesaro that were forming Rossini’s life as a composer, Bonvivant and Gour-met-Gourmand forever.

Springtime in Vienna 2013 (90’, HD)

The annual concert Springtime in Vienna marks Fabio Luisi’s last season as chief conductor. On this occasion, the outgoing music di-rector of the Wiener Symphoniker presents a programme of personal favorites from his homeland Italy, like Puccini and Verdi: an evocati-ve potpourri of concerted pieces, plus music from opera and film scores. Of course, there will also be a lot of Rossini… For further information on these and many other precious music

Poorhouse Interna-tional Ltd.

Colin Davis – The Man And His Music

Colin Davis was born in Septem-ber 1925 and is a major influence on British music life (in the words of Simon Rattle). Orchestras love him and the Financial Times calls him “the reluctant king of English music making”.Having studied the clarinet at the Royal College of Music, he was not eligible for the conducting class, because he could not play the pia-no. His breakthrough came when he stood in for Thomas Beecham at Glyndebourne and Otto Klem-perer at the Royal Festival Hall... Colin Davis recalls his life and ca-reer in a new documentary by Rei-

ner E. Moritz, punctuated by clips from legendary performances and interviews with friends and colle-agues.Shot in HDRunning time 58:30
