SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS "In November wo hired a chaplain who will be making visits to the homos ofthe children, nourishing and encouraging the spiritual growth and activities of the childrenand staff of the Home, and is also calling and holding Bible studies with the neighbors.Aladino has studied at the Aparri Bible Seminary and hopes to be able to continue his studiesand graduate in the near future. He is a very dedicated servant of the Inrd and we praise theLord for bringing him to us as we were preying for one of his personality and conviction. Vfewould ask that you would also join us in prayer for a Christian social worker to travel withAladino and to carry on the job of the social worker as we , oiyF *come to the States. Wo need one who is already a Christian andalso a male so that he can travel with Aladino.

We praise the Lord that one of our staff and two more of ourneighbors have accented the Lord as their Savior and been bap- ^tized. Two of them were baptized \diilo we wore having a floodand we had a hard time finding a suitable place to baptize • ^Pray for these new members of the Family as they grow."

JORDAN "Jordan has now reached the age of 1year. How thankful^ , Jji \ ' ) iwe are for his good health and the joy he has been for all of us |l.as we have watched him grow and leam. Because of his good _start and because he is advanced for his age, he is way ahead of ^some of the children who are older than ho. Everyone has really ^been blessed by him. The first word of some of the other child- vA" ' ,ren has been 'Jordan*. We do praise the Lord for him."

FDRLOUCffl PREPARATION "Bert is working on his passport and visa, ^idiich can take a lot of time and expense, especially since welive in the Province, about 400 miles from Manila, idiere every- Vthing is processed. Please pray with us that there will be no .problems and all will be accomplished easily and without many 'trips. We are still planning to leave for the States in early 7^May. ml wonderful it is to be in God's family and to share inms love and joy we are. As we have come to the States on onr fUrlou^, we have enjoyedrich love and fellowship with God's people here. We have been traveling to many churches to

speak .and to help in VBS s and how we have enjoyed sharing together in His work. We are so thank-lo all of you who have taken us in and helped us in so many ways. It has been wonderful to

see old friends again and to introduce them to Bort and Jordan. And meeting new friends has been^ch a joy also. How wonderfUl is His love that makes us never feel as strangers as we meetbrothers and sisters in Christ l"W- are also so thankful to those who have helped meet our needs—many clothes, toys, and two carseats loaned for Jordan's use, and clothes and financial gifts given for our personal needs idiileIn the States. Truly we are blessed by God through His people I We are driving a very nice Subarustation wagon that my parents purchased and will become their private car vhen we return to theHiilippines.

"Wd have all enjoyed being with and seeing the members of my family here. Grandma and GrandpaPruitt are enjoying that we are making their home our home base, giving them more precious tinewith their grandchild. Vfe have seen all ray brothers and sisters except by brother who is inNew Zealand, and most cousins and other relatives. Family is great I"

PRAYER NEEDS "Hit famUy here does not keep our minds from returning to the Philippines and toour family there. We have received news from Ernest and Veda Hondrick (from Keno, OR) as theyhave begun their year as administrators while we are gone. Hiey need your continued prayers asthey carry on this very special job of ministry for the Lord.""We still need your prayers. Ihis is Bert's f^rst time to the States and so there are many ad-jus tments for him, as well as for 'l ;r ^ years in the Philippines. We need your prayers forsafety as we travel and for health when we get tired and weary. Jordan has adjusted very well tothe many changes in his life. Going from a largo family to being and only child was a big change'for him. He is always so happy to se® other children and have them to play with, ihe differentfoods, heavy schedules, all the traveling and having to be in a car seat (%^ich he had neverused before), and the new faces, have all been real adjustments. But he has been an angel throu^it all. He does get tired tut does amazingly well. We Ask your prayers him also."

POPULATION ROTATION fefore we left the Philippines, several children returned to their homes. We had two families, 7 children total, who were able to return home with their a. Bothfamillo?: are now back on their feet and able to be reunited. Wo as those children as somehad been wiUi us up to 2f years. Tne one family is Christian and live close so contact is keptwith them. S'-nce wo returned to the States the Negrito children (2 brothers and a sister) thatwe were experimenting with in sending them to school have all returned home, ihe two older boyshad some problems living under our rules and little sister just followed them home. We are sorrythat this experiment did not work as in the fViture we might have been able to help many morechildren. But wo may still be able to try it again.Alexander. 5, and Analyn. joined our family just before we left. They come from a mlxed-upfamily situation anH •were brought to us by the step mother after the father and their real motherhad botfiab^flndoned them. The stepmother was a good lady in loving and caring for them, but withher own children and no husband to support them she could not care for them.

Since we left the family has grown by two, Carwelo. 8, was abandoned by his mother in a market.Apparently his father was a drunkard Uho had been killed. Sounds as if he has adjusted well tohis new home. Lanian. now six months old, came after her mother had died from complications ofmany different illnesses. She is the youngest of 7 children and the father is also ill withserious TB, Lanian weighed about 12 lbs. She is from a mountain tribe. So with the 10 whowent home and the '4- additions, we now have 73 children.

"KIDDING*AROUND Vfe have -increased in population in other ways, Ihe first of April we startedour goat farm with 10 nannie«. Two of them soon gave birth, one single and one set of twins.

NEEDS "Vo are still looking for a pnysicai tnorioiaL and foi" ua special ^^^^Tlpecial children. Several VBS's have given funds for a commercial di^yer, which ^11 be agroat help. In addition to the initial costs will be shipping and customs, making this a bigproject. There is still room for more participants if y)u would like to help! For anyone \Aiowould like to sponsor a child, the total cost is $50.00, but you can be a at any aniount. The fact that you love and pray for the child is the important thing, and the children are exci^ed to know that someone cares for them. You can have the blessing of personal correspond^ce ifyou wish. And with so many children we always need good used clothes, toys, il^tweight sweaters and jackets. The clothing and sweaters for Uie school age children are the mostneeded sizes. **

Again wb cannot express the proper thanks to all of you who have shared with us in this work.Because of your love, prayers, and financial giving these children can have a home and love andtheir needs are met, and best of all can learn of the Lord who loves them. Tnanks so much to puwho have sent clothes, school bags (it takes a lot for all those children), toys, school supplies, and many other items that help meet the needs of these children. There are never-ending needs, problems, discouragements, joys, happiiiosss and sliaring of love in the Lord's work. We praiaethe Lord that we can serve Him and depend on Him for everything. Thank you for being partnerswith us and may the Lord heap blessing upon you.*

Praise and thanksgiving flow through MESSAGES FROM MARY AND BERT: "First of all, we would liketo express our appreciation and thanks to all who have been a part of making our furlough sucha successful and blessed one. The extra gifts of support, the hospitality shown by so manypeople as we have traveled and been in homes, and the prayers have all made this a wonderful, although at times tiring, furlough. We have enjoyed so much the Vacation Bible Schools andcamps we have been involved in. Getting to know the staff and children in the different placeshas been a real blessing. We praise the Lord that we made it through the Wi-Ne-Ma Week ofMissions and want to thank all who were praying especially for us that week. We are also thankful to the Lord for His care over us as we have traveled. Thank you again to those vdio havebeen praying for our safety and for us as we speak. Being in God's family and dealing and•sharing with His people is a real privilege." . ,

MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE HOME..."News from theHome has been a little M ®sketchy, as it always is when you are away. I have also found out that |I do not have any more time for letter writing here than I did in the | • |||HP|||HL B HRiilippines, Since the last newsletter we have received two babies. MOfelia, about a year old, is the younger sister of our Romy. She had | Blbeen left by her parents with an aunt, who eventually brou^t her to the» • pP'̂ 7Home. The parents are separated and we know from the past they ^^^^1have a very messed-up life. Praise the Lord we can show Ofelia love andg 1care and meet her physical needs as well. Marivic, 2 months old, also = '̂1 •joined the family, one of a set of twins. The family is very poor andapparently the other twin has some birth defects. Bit so the one would •have her needs met and be able to grow to be a nomal girl, they broughther to the Home."

"In the last newsletter I forgot to mention another of our boys who returned home. Eugene was 15 years old in the third grade. Unfortunatelyhe was not making his best effort in school. Because he had parents Ofeliaand was not doing his best we returned him home so that we would be ableto help others who needed the help more. After Eugene joined our family we decided that wewould not take any more cases just so a child could go to school. Vfe pray that he will be ableto finish school somehow, and that he will remain strong in his faith in the Lord. His parentsare also Christians, so we have good hopes for him. Sherry Ann has been with us since 197o« Alittle over a year ago she went to live with a missionary family that wanted to adopt her, butthey had to come to the States on an emergency and were not able to bring Sierry with them because her papers were not yet finished. After returning to the Home, aieriy had a hard timere-adjusting. As it turned out she later ran away from the Home and went to the home of herboyfriend. The family is a Christian family and love Sierry Ann and have agreed that she andtheir son may get married. So our population is down by one more. Vfe would ask that you remember aierry in your prayers. Sie is only 15i' y®ars old. Biey will live with his family fora vAiile and that will help her. Pray that they will all grow in their love and service forthe Lord."

SCHOOL ACHIEVMENTS "Last December several of our children took a Placement test in school. This is for older students in the lower grades to see if they can be advenced. We are verypleased at the results. Manchita. l4 yrs. old, advanced from 4th grade to first year HighSchool (there is no Jr. High); Jo^y. 13 yrs. old, from 4th to S^h; Zenaida, 13 yrs. old, from3rd to 6th. Please pray for these children to be able to keep up with their classes. Zenaidaespecially needs prayers a^ she is a slow learner and has made a big jump. We are very proudof these children and their accomplishments."

TYPHOON! "In July we had another strong typhoon. As a result they had to re-roof the outsideoffice and small isolation room and build a retaining wall near the goat house. Wa praise theLord that this is light damage, actually the worst vre have ever had. He does take good care ofus. Praise the Lord also for the generator, idiich got a lot of use while the electricity was offi

BLESSINGS! "We are so grateful for the way the Lord provides our needs through His wonderfulpeople. This summer money was raised to buy us a commeroial dryer idiich will soon be on its wayto the Philippines. What a help that will be during the rainy season 111 Pray that we will nothave to pay high customs on it. Also, a sister of ours in the I^rd has purchased an automaticwashing machine for the Home. It will accompany the dryer. It will be better than Christmas! The amount needed to drill our new well for the new submersible pump was raised and that project will soon be under way. Jfoney was also raised to buy rice and beans. There were manyother offerings from camps and VBS's that were not designated for a certain need that are agreat help in meeting the everyday and new and unexpected needs (like roofing and new blankets,etc.). We want to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all who have helped in these special projectsand also to those who give on a regular and faithfhl basis to meet the everyday needs of theHome. We could not do it without you."

SPECIAL PRAYER NEED One of the most exciting things I have seen while here in the States isthat the churches are much more involved in praising and praying together. It is a real powerand a joy to see the people of the Lord united in prayer each Sinday and other times during theweek. Vfe ask that all would continue to uphold the Hondricks, Ernest and Veda, from Keno, Ore.,

Page 6: Bureros Bert Mary(Pruitt) 1986 Philippines

as they fill in for us >diile "we are here in the States. Biey have taken on a very heavy andtou^ job, and need our prayers daily. Pray for their strength, health, wisdom, and being ableto cope with the culture shock as well as homesickness. They have been there just a year nowand I know they are feeling it." jWe would ask your prayers for us also as we will be traveling a lot in the next month and ahalf. Wh will be taking part in the Northwest Schools of Mission, which begins in MontanaSept. 26. We will be traveling and speaking in a different church every ni^t (except Sat.)for five weeks. Vfe need your prayers for safe"ty as we travel and for health and strength aswe speak and visit in people's homes. Also, just pray for us as we feel homesickness forour children in the Philippines and as Bert alsp eaqperiences culture shock here in thiscountry."NEEDS—AND A SURPRISE I "Other need that we have is the ever present need of supporters for thechildren. We figure it costs $50 per month per| child. Asponsor (individual, congregation, class, etc.) may take on fUU sponsorship or any amount they would like. Vfe are also stilllooking for a physical therapist and a special education teacher to work with our special children. And, as always, there is a need for good used clothing. Shorts, shirts, long pants, sundresses, pajamas, light weight coats and sweaters are always needed. They may be sent strai^tto the Home as long as they are well packed. It is best to pack them inside a plastic bag ina strong cardboard box and tiien wrap the box wpU. Vfe can also use good used toys.

We are also needing a church or group to give 3living<-link support for Jordan, who will be 2years old in Nov. Jordan will be joined by another little Bireros in March, and that one willbe needing living-link support in the future also."
