The program is structured to provide an atmosphere of support and encouragement while offering practical tools for setting goals to be successful in life. Aug. 7, 8, 9 & 10, 6-9 p.m., Aug. 11, 2-6 p.m., and Aug. 12, 1-7 p.m. Lifeguarding Couse Whether you want to pursue as a season or career opportunity, the America Red Cross certified lifeguarding course offered at Daytona State College provides the necessary training to help individuals develop rescue skills and be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED. Participants will learn how to prevent accidents through knowledge of lifeguarding, proper use of equipment and realization of responsibilities. The course begins on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. with a pre-test activity in order to access ability to swim 300 yards and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool using a surface dive, three-hours of instruction immediate follow. The course continues on Wednesday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 11, from 2 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 12, from 1 to 7 p.m. Course fee is $225 (discounted to $100 for Daytona State College students who have completed a lifeguarding job application) and requires a $75 non-refundable deposit.
