This project is divided into four groups, Portraits, The Jones Family Tenant Farm, The Landscape, and Light, Form and Expression in the Beadel House. Credit cards are accepted at Café 101. The charge for dinner is $15. Café 101 is open to the public; however, seating is limited and reservations are required. Café 101 will be closed from May 16 through May 25 and from August 12 through September 5. It also will be closed each Friday between May 29 and August 10. Aug. 6–29, Monday through Wednesday, 1:30-3:30 p.m. The Fresh Start for Men program This free four-week life skills course is designed to assist males preparing to transition into career and technical training at Daytona State College. The program is structured to provide an atmosphere of support and encouragement while offering practical tools for setting goals to be successful in life. Students will complete a Personal Development Plan, which provides a road map to explore career options, examine educational opportunities, and establish career goals. Students will also learn interview and job-readiness skills and how to create a resume for successful entrance into the workforce. The class meets Monday through Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sponsored by Daytona State College and the Florida Department of Education, Carl D. Aug. 7, 8, 9 & 10, 6-9 p.m., Aug. 11, 2-6 p.m., and Aug. 12, 1-7 p.m. Lifeguarding Couse Whether you want to pursue as a season or career opportunity, the America Red Cross certified lifeguarding course offered at Daytona State College provides the necessary training to help individuals develop rescue skills and be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED. Participants will learn how to prevent accidents through knowledge of lifeguarding, proper use of equipment and realization of responsibilities. The course begins on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. with a pre-test activity in order to access ability to swim 300 yards and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool using a surface dive, three-hours of instruction immediate follow. The course continues on Wednesday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 11, from 2 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 12, from 1 to 7 p.m. Course fee is $225 (discounted to $100 for Daytona State College students who have completed a lifeguarding job application) and requires a $75 non-refundable deposit. Aug. 13-23, 5-5:30 p.m. Swim Lessons The American Red Cross "Learn to Swim" programs at Daytona State College are designed to teach ages three to five and six to nine, to swim and be safe around aquatic environments. The programs are broken into two levels, starting with water adjustment skills and advancing to competitive stroke perfection. Water safety is stressed and taught to all participants. All instructors have been certified as American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors. Pre-registration is required, prices range from $42 to $52 for the two-week course.
