SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY www.smponline.org Continues through July 24, The Touch of Nature: Florida Through the Lens of th e Orlando Camera Club An Exhibition at the Lyonia Gallery The Southeast Museum of Photography has expanded with a new exhibition space at the Lyonia Environmental Center in Deltona, Florida Exhibitions at the Southeast Museum of Photography’s LYONIA GALLERY present photography related to environmental, land-use, local history and regional culture that complement the educational themes and environmental awareness of the Lyonia Center. The museum is pleased to present an array of memorable photographs selected from the many beautiful images of the natural environment of central Florida that have been captured by members of the Orlando Camera Club. The photographs here include a small but impressive selection that gives a special emphasis to some stunning images of the bird life in Florida. Some of the most impressive works made by club members include these beautiful images of wildlife and the natural world. Continues through July 30 Daytona State College Faculty Focus: Gary Monroe Photographs 1976 - 2011 Faculty Focus exhibitions present photographic works from faculty of the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies, a consortium with Daytona State College and the University of Central Florida. This year’s featured Faculty Focus is Gary Monroe, an artist-educator and an established photographer. Over the years, Monroe has photographed all over the world: from Brazil to Israel; Poland to the Caribbean. He has also created many significant bodies of work in his home state of Florida, with topics varying from Haitian immigration to tourism and sex offenders. This exhibition serves as a retrospective, spanning Monroe's 35 year career as a documentary photographer. Free admission. College and the University of Central Florida. Each year, the Faculty Focus exhibitor selects the alumnus or alumni for a companion exhibition. This year’s faculty focus, Gary Monroe, chose to share the spotlight with seven of his prior students that work in a similar documentary style yet have branched out in many different directions. This exhibition is as much about ideas of teaching and influence as it is about getting a sense of how younger documentary photographers are looking at and reflecting upon the world around them. Whether you are an experienced solar contractor or a plumbing or heating expert with little solar knowledge, this course will teach you the basics of solar thermal technology. “Solar thermal“ means liquid is heated by the sun’s rays to generate hot water and is the most cost-effective and efficiently renewable energy source. Matter of Life & Death: Suicide Prevention Conferen ce for College Campuses The conference is geared predominantly toward college administration, college deans, college counseling service staff, counselors and advising departments. It will also provide professional development for college counselors, campus safety officers, administrators, faculty members, students, and mental health professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to be exposed to current and emerging suicide prevention strategies as well as practical applications of those strategies. INTRAMURAL SPORTS www.DaytonaState.edu/student_act/intramurals.html Summer Golf Program Thursdays starting May 19, 4:30 p.m. until 15 minutes before dark Pelican Bay Golf Club (PBGC) is offering a summer golf play deal to students, faculty, staff and friends of Daytona State College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Bethune-Cookman University and Stetson University. This is offer is for the north course - the semi-private facility - but could be used at the south course as need be. PBGC is offering the rate of $10 for all the golf that you can play from 4:30 p.m. until 15 minutes before dark (which is when the carts must be returned). This price includes the cart fee; range or practice balls cost extra. In addition, MyKeyGolf Inc. (Michael "myKey" Phelan) will hold several special events during the course of the summer such as best ball scrambles etc. and individual challenges for all participants. All are invited to participate and enjoy bring a friend and just mention Daytona State College summer golf for the special rate. In addition, PGA teaching pro Doug Feldman will be offering group lessons on Thursdays. Feldman has provided this service for many years and it has been very popular with beginning golfers and those who wish to restart their game after some layoff.
