SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY www.smponline.org Continues through May 30 Double Exposure – Armistad Center AFRICAN AMERICAN BEFORE AND BEHIND THE CAMERA Double Exposure showcases vintage photographs from the Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s historical collection of art and artifacts with photo-based art by contemporary African-American artists. This landmark exhibition comprehensively explores the African American experience through an examination of representation in photographic works from the 19th and 20th centuries. It highlights African American history, as well as the history of photography and includes photographs, albums, and cased images, as well as contemporary art that incorporates vintage photographic imagery. The Bikeriders has influenced subsequent generations of photographers and is a masterful illustration of a unique American subculture. "Stella Johnson's photographs are poems weighted with grace, dignity and compassion. March 27, 1 - 3 p.m. SMP Children's Program: Frame of Mind - Making a De corative Photo Mirror Enjoy an afternoon of free parent-child art and photography sessions for children aged 7-14. Museum staff will lead a variety of fun activities that will explore new ways of seeing and creating. Children will each receive a glass mirror and be given the opportunity to remove a portion of the mirror's black backing to reveal a "window" of clear glass. The clear area can be large or small, square, oval or even heartshaped. Participating children will then have their picture taken, "antiqued," and then placed in the prepared area. March 24, 26, 27, 31, April 2, 3 & 7, Water Safety Instructor Pass this American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor course and get certified to teach Swim Lessons. You must be able to pass the pre-test which consists of the following: front crawl (25 yds), back crawl (25 yds), breastroke (25 yds), elementary backstroke (25 yds), sidestroke (25 yds), and butterfly (15 yds). Participants must also possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certificate issued within the past 12 months (FIT class will be held March 24 from 5:30 - 10 p.m.) Each class must be attended to be certified. Classes held 6 - 10 p.m. (weekdays), and 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Saturdays). Course fee is $200; a $50 non-refundable deposit is required at registration. Daytona Beach Campus, Aquatic Center (L.
