Welcome to Chanhassen! With a population of 22,952, Chanhassen offers the best of rural and suburban life — it’s a great place to live, work and play!
Most of the city’s 14,427 acres are in Carver County, with 154 in Hennepin County. Five major highways traverse the community — including the new Highway 212 freeway — allowing residents and commuters to reach other metropolitan communi-ties in minutes.
Businesses include a variety of commercial and industrial companies. Offi ce and warehouse buildings are located throughout the city. Since 1995, the city has added 2.5 million square feet of commercial/industrial space. The approximately 500 businesses employ more than 9,500 people.
Two public school districts, Minnetonka and District 112, as well as private schools, serve the families in the community. Residents and students also welcomed the 2009 opening of Chanhassen High School, the second high school for District 112.
There is much to do and enjoy in Chanhassen. The downtown area offers shopping, dining and entertainment — including the renowned Chanhassen Dinner Theatres — as well as a library and many service and retail businesses. For outdoor enthusiasts, Chanhassen has 11 lakes that offer recreation and relaxation to residents and visitors to the community. The city’s 500-acre park system features community and neigh-borhood parks, as well as 70 miles of trails and sidewalks for people of all ages. The park system also features fi ve nature preserves. Additionally, the Chanhassen Senior Center is a social gathering spot for those over age 55.

Our scratch kitchen is what truly separates us from the pack. While most casual restaurants use microwaves and pre-assembled or pre-cooked ingredients, everything on our menu is made the hard way – from scratch. From appetizers and salads to entrees and desserts, it’s all prepared here daily. With Love.

Chanhassen City CouncilChanhassen operates under the “Optional Plan B” form of government as authorized
by Minnesota statutes. Under this plan, the elected city council consists of a mayor and four council members. The mayor and council members are elected to four-year terms. Elections are held in even-numbered years and coincide with general elections conducted in November. All council positions are representatives at-large.
All policy decisions and legislative activities are the responsibility of the council, but the administrative duties are delegated to the city manager, who is appointed by the council. The commissions and advisory boards are appointed by the city council. The city manager appoints all other city staff. Appointment of the city attorney is subject to approval by the council.

Household Hazardous WasteHousehold hazardous waste must be disposed of properly to avoid endangering health
and contaminating ground water. These wastes include: solvents, household cleaners, pesticides, paint, wood preservatives, aerosols, batteries, automotive oil and antifreeze. The best way to handle the waste – except those that are banned – is to use it or give it to someone who will. If these options are not available to you, please contact the county for collection information.
Sellers of automotive products may take used automotive waste, perhaps for a fee. Check before bringing the waste in.
The county also schedules periodic hazardous waste collection programs.

RecyclingCurbside Collection
Chanhassen requires all refuse haulers operating within the city to provide curbside pick-up of recyclable materials such as newsprint, glass, metal cans and plastic beverage bottles. Each refuse hauler is required to provide households with recycling containers to encourage participation. Contact your hauler for a specifi c list of accepted recyclables.
Compost SitesThere are several options for disposing of yard waste (leaves, grass, wood). Yard waste
is accepted for a fee at the Call Carver County Environmental Center — call 952-361-1835 for information. Yard waste can be composted and reused — call Carver County Environmental Services at 952-361-1806. It is illegal to dispose of yard and tree waste with your household garbage; however, your hauler may, for a fee, pick up yard waste to be composted. Call your hauler for information about rules and/or fees.
Leaves and grass clippings cannot be thrown into the garbage. They must be handled separately, either in a backyard compost pile or at a special site.

Minnetonka Schools are focused on world-class child-centered excellence and serve the western third of Minnetonka and all or parts of Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden
Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Victoria and Woodland. There are more than 8,300 students enrolled in Minnetonka schools. In total there are six elementary schools (K-5), two middle schools (Gr. 6-8), one high school (Gr. 9-12), and a community education center that houses many of the district’s early childhood, youth and adult programs. Minnetonka Public Schools offers a variety of learning opportunities for families, including Chinese or Spanish Immersion as an option at each of its six elementary schools beginning in kindergarten. In the Immersion program, English-speaking students learn a second language as part of regular classroom activities. About 50 percent of the District’s kindergarteners enroll in the traditional kindergarten program (taught in English) and about 50 percent enroll in one of the language immersion options. Kindergarten families may also choose a half-day or extended day program. Before and after school child care is available at each school.
