World Environment Day (WED) is observed every year on June 5 to raise

awareness about various environmental issues and encourage action forthe protection of environment.

It was initiated in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly

as a global platform for raising awareness and taking action on

increasingly urgent issues like marine pollution, global warming

and wildlife crime.

This year’s theme ‘Go Wild For Life’ encourages people ‘to celebrate

all those species under threat and take action of your own to help

safeguard them for future generations’.

On this World Environment Day, we bring to you how pollution has changed India

in past few decades.
