SAVE-THE-DATE: Yom Ha’Atzmaut Concert: SHUFFLEThursday, May 12 | 7:00pm Rhode Island College, Sapinsley Hall | 600 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence

A modern day ensemble that delivers the unexpected. Inspiring and energetic, New York-based chamber music ensemble’s SHUFFLE concert changes the rules of performance as we know it. Conceived by SHUFFLE’s artistic director and pianist, Eliran Avni, while exercising on the elliptical machine at the gym, his MP3 player jumped from a Pretender’s song to the first movement of Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, nearly causing him to lose his balance… and thus, the idea for SHUFFLE concert was born!Unique to SHUFFLE performances is the manner in which the program is selected. The audience is invited to actively participate in the selection of works to be performed by choosing from a menu of over 30 works derived from 15 different styles, ranging from solos and duos, to trios, quartets, quintets, and sextets. Genres vary from classical, baroque, and romantic, to jazz, pop, and Broadway. The result is a highly engaged audience and a high energy performance.Price: $25 | Members: $18

Kenny and Ziggy’s has been touted in press reviews ranging from “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” to the L.A. Daily News.Jay Parker is the third generation deli owner of Ben’s Best delicatessen in Rego Park, New York. The Jewish Alliance Annual Campaign raises money to support Jewish life in Rhode Island, in Israel, and across the globe. Honoring the Jewish values of compassion, generosity, and responsibility, our donors make it possible for us to fund more than 300 programs and services worldwide. In fact, many of the opportunities listed throughout this guide are made possible by your support to the Annual Campaign.

To keep our community strong, we sustain the people who make it great - through every stage of life. Together, we give our children an excellent education that is built on a solid foundation of Jewish identity. We share Jewish culture so that we as a people will remain valued and relevant. We take care of the most vulnerable among us, including our seniors, by providing meals and emergency funding. We continue to fight anti-Semitism across the globe and assist Jewish communities, such as those in the Ukraine and Cuba, facing turbulence and upheaval.

In addition to the Annual Campaign, which sustains our community from year to year, our Philanthropy Department also raises funds for major endeavors. One of those projects is Living on the Edge, our anti-poverty initiative that assistss those who are trying to meet basic needs and help them work towards a sustainable solution. We are also in the midst of a capital campaign to renovate and modernize the Dwares JCC in order to continue serving the community.

In all of these ways, and more, we are making a difference in the world. Learn more at jewishallianceri.org.

Double Chai Society is a giving initiative through the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island which includes community members between 30 – 50 years old who have generously donated $360 or more per household to the Jewish Alliance Annual Campaign. The Double Chai Society strives to create a more committed and engaged group of philanthropically aware NextGeners through workshops and programming including leadership development, inspirational entrepreneurialism, and social action. Double Chai Society’s new breakfast learning series, Lox and Learning is coming in January featuring locally and nationally recognized entrepreneurs, politicians, and authors, as well as others who aim to inspire and motivate the younger Rhode Island demographic.

The gifts of time, talent, and expertise...Volunteering is a great way to get involved at the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island. Volunteers have an enormous impact on our Jewish community and provide an invaluable resource to those in need. We have a variety of volunteer and community service opportunities to fit your schedule and interests. Help a child with their homework, cook and serve a hot meal for those who are hungry, become a mentor to an individual with special needs, assist with greeting guests, read stories to our preschoolers, serve on a committee, or work with staff to meet the needs of our members, and much more. There are many ways to get involved and give back to the greater community.

It was later discovered that this terror attack, and others that preceded it, were financed by the Iranian government, resulting in a lawsuit in the United States courts. The Bus on Jaffa Road is the story of one act of terror and what happened afterwards. It offers many lessons -- and warnings -- about the current war on terrorism that has dominated US politics. ? Did you know? Reading to your child, as early as infancy, has been proven to have lasting benefits on language development. Research has found that reading to your baby provides the exposure to language that can positively influence learning throughout the rest of his/her life. It also helps form special bonds between you and your child. PJ Library books provide an excellent opportunity to start reading with your child, while also exposing them to the traditions and values of Judaism.

David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood CenterThe David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center (ECC) provides an enriching, multi-faceted early childhood education program for children three months of age through pre-kindergarten. We also offer a nurturing Infant/Toddler Program and an enriching Preschool Program to serve families.

The mission of the Isenberg Early Childhood Center is to provide a safe, child-centered, Jewish setting where each child will explore his or her world through discovery of self, community, and the environment. Children will develop trusting and respectful relationships with their peers and teachers as they learn through play in a nurturing atmosphere. Each child will be encouraged to create his or her own experiences at an individual developmental level through self-directed and teacher-facilitated activities and interactions. All children with different physical, social/emotional and cognitive abilities are welcome.

Why the Isenberg Early Childhood Center? All children in our program will develop knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors necessary to achieve optimal wellness and become committed to lifelong learning. This, in turn, leads to healthy individuals, families, and communities. We include all aspects of wellness, such as social, emotional, physical, and nutritional. The ECC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and BrightStars, Rhode Island’s quality rating and improvement system that recognizes and supports quality in child care and early learning programs. Heated Indoor PoolImmerse yourself in a variety of pool activities in our newly renovated, heated indoor pool, one of the few available to the public on the East Side of Providence. We have a variety of open swim times, as well as adult and gender-specific times. We offer swim classes for all ages and swim levels through The Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy. Swimming provides a different exercise format compared to more traditional forms of fitness activities. Water activities provide weightlessness and do not pull one down the same way a regular workout would. Water aerobics are easy on the joints and can even increase muscle strength and endurance due to the water's built-in resistance. Check the pool schedule to see our variety of water fitness classes in both shallow and deep water. Use of our pool during regularly scheduled swim times is FREE for members. Not a member? Drop-in fee is $12 for adults and $6 for kids under 13 years old. View our pool schedule and classes online at www.jewishallianceri.org or call the Aquatics office at 401.421.4111 ext. 153.

The Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy offers a learn-to-swim program for children of all ages. Started in 2005 by four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lenny Krayzelburg, its "core purpose is to teach and inspire children to be water safe." Since its inception, they have taught thousands of children water safety and the importance of knowing how to swim. Using the SwimRight® Method, they utilize the swim-float-swim technique as a foundation and focus on providing children with the knowledge of confidence and safety in and around the water. Students progress from the beginning stages of swimming to learning all four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. All of our instructors are certified in the SwimRight® Method.

Starting as young as three months old, children learn to swim at their own pace. After a free evaluation, swimmers are assigned to a particular swim level. Students are then taught using the SwimRight® Method, which focuses on correct body positioning and alignment from the very beginning. Progress is recorded in a personal swim journal with the use of positive reinforcement and fun exercises. As each swimmer advances, he/she participates in safety tests to demonstrate his/her proficiency in their ability and technique.

Using an exceptional education system designed around swimming fundamentals and emphasizing water safety, three types of lessons are offered:

• Parent/Toddler lessons (maximum: 8 per class)• Group (maximum: 4 – 8 per class based on level)• Private Lessons

We strongly suggest that students take at least one class per week, year-round. Consistency is one of the most important factors towards becoming proficient and gaining confidence in the water. Every swimmer must register for a free initial level evaluation.
