University 32 – Morrinsville Sports 19

University moved into the outright competition lead with their

fourth straight bonus point win coming against Morrinsville

Sports at the Waikato University grounds.

Second five Chauncy Edwardson scored two of the home

side’s five tries while fullback Damian McKenzie also had a good

day adding 12 points with a try, two conversions and a penalty.

Morrinsville, who trailed 19-7 at the break, hung in there for

most of the game thanks to tries from fullback Semisi Masirewa,

flanker Shaun Peek and wing Josh O’Flaherty, but the students

closed the game out well.

Otorohanga 19 – Hamilton Old Boys 10

Two late tries from Number 8 Rory Grice saw Otorohanga

come from behind to get the win over Hamilton Old Boys at Fred

Jones Park in a battle of two unbeaten teams.

Old Boys held the lead for most of the match with a try to

fullback Kane Adams and a conversion and penalty from first

five Bryn Gatland giving them a 10-7 lead with 10 minutes to

play.

Wing Sekove Seriki scored Otorohanga’s first half try which

kept the visitors within striking distance, and then with time

winding down they stepped it up a gear as Grice’s two tries

came in quick succession with young first five Josh Thomas

converting both to complete the comeback victory.

Hamilton Marist 67 – Hautapu 12

Defending champions Hamilton Marist were back to their best

in the fourth week of the competition with an 11-try romp over

Hautapu at Memorial Park in Cambridge.

Wing Leigh Bristowe was the standout for the visitors with four

tries, while there was doubles for prop Loni Uhila and NZ

Sevens rep Joe Webber.

Hautapu had no answer for the green and white onslaught,

finding themselves already down 31-7 at halftime, and could

only manage a try in each half to loose forwards Kane Jacobson

and David Morris.

Melville 97 – Te Rapa 0

Melville scored 15 tries as they cruised to a huge win over

bottom of the table Te Rapa at Collins Road.

The Melville backline ran riot with Seth Rose, Shaun O’Connor,

Dani Lova and Hayato Nishibashi all scoring two tries each.

Fullback Mike Martin also had a big day out with a try and 11

conversions giving him a personal tally of 27 points.

Fraser Tech 29 – Te Awamutu Sports 12

Fraser Tech finally recorded their first win of the season with a

confident four tries to two win over Te Awamutu Sports at Mill

Street.

Prop Richard Johnston, lock Peniasi Iowane, Number 8 Simon

Humble and halfback Troy Lobendahn scored Tech’s four tries

to ensure a bonus point win which moves them up to the middle

of the table.

After conceding a 14-0 lead in the first half Te Awamutu were

playing catch up rugby throughout the match and could only

manage two tries to fullback Hayden Ivil and Number 8

Valentino Mapapalangi.

University moved to the top of the table with another bonus point win while Otorohanga’s win leaves them as the only other unbeaten team. There was also Round 4 wins for Fraser Tech, Hamilton Marist and Melville.
