Toe die steak die rooster tref besluit jy met genoegdoening hierdie gaan ‘n lekker aandjie wees. Die gaslamp staan op die opslaantafel, en die kinders hardloop in die rondte daar om soos motte om ‘n kers. Onder die gesuis van die briljante stukke vleis op die kole is daar ‘n kriekekoor aan die gang wat jou net weereens herinner dat dit somer is en dat hierdie die lekkerste tyd van die jaar is om in die aande langs ‘n braaivleisvuur te sit en die naggeluide in te neem. Hier langs die vuur voel mens so ver verwyderd van die regte wêreld daar buite, en die gewone dinge wat gewoonlik jou tyd saans in beslag neem. Hierdie lewe is iets waaraan mens gewoond kan raak, dink jy, en waarskynlik sal moet want “load-shedding” het ons verander in kampeerders in ons eie tuine saans. Iets wat nie noodwendig altyd ‘n slegte idee is nie.

Last week I wrote about change and how we are sometimes a bit apprehensive to accept it. This past weekend I attended the wedding that I’ve always dreaded: my cousin, best friend and confidant. I knew that it will change everything and the idea of that happening was terrible. It happened and she married the man of her dreams. And that was when I realised that I hadn’t lost her, I have gained a lovely new family member - a change of heart that made it so much easier to accept the change of my cousin’s surname.Our CEO, Karin Blignaut, also had a life changing event last week - also welcoming a new family member into the world. We want to congratulate her on the birth of her first grandson. See a photo of the young man below. Major Drug Bust IN waDevIlle
A drug lab with R2 million worth of Mandrax tablets was discovered by the Hawks and the South African Police Services on 4 March.Three men aged between 26 and 35 were arrested during the major drug bust that took place near Wadeville, Germiston last week. According to police, the men
were found in possession of the drugs and the alleged ringleader was among those arrested. Chemicals, equipment, a delivery vehicle, Mandrax tablets and powder, were also seized.Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi from SAPS said that they were still trying to ascertain if the arrested parties were part and parcel
of a bigger syndicate, and were also checking whether they could be connected to other drug labs in the Johannesburg area. “Two suspects were allegedly found busy manufacturing and pressing Mandax tablets. One was arrested at the scene while the other managed to escape,” he said.

Met ‘n gesonde maaltyd kan daardie kinders vir ten minste daardie dae sommer net kind wees.

Tieghan Griffin–Coetzer, the Figures Alberton Intern for 2014, an aspiring model and now also an aspiring actress, has qualified once again to attend the prestigious IMTA Convention to be held in New York in July this year. She attended the IMTA Convention last year as a model and has grown in leaps and bounds in the modelling industry. She gained International experience and exposure and learned many new things to do with the talent industry; she even got a callback from a Tokyo based agency called Visage. “The experience was phenomenal - one we will treasure forever,” said her mother.The IMTA Convention gives aspiring models, actresses, song writers, singers and dancers the opportunity to be seen by casting agents and to be scouted. The convention runs for one week and those invited compete on runways, on stages and in front of cameras, both in live and recorded competitions. They also attend workshops and seminars offered by the industry’s experts.Figures Alberton believe Tieghan has what it takes and have once again extended an invitation for her to attend the IMTA Convention. Tieghan needs to raise funds or find sponsors in order to realise her dream. “She is my creative, outgoing child and I truly believe that she has the potential to go all the way,” said her mother.

She must first compete locally in the Gauteng and National Championships that will be held at the end of March. With her present form, she has already qualified for the A Standard of ASA Athletics and has broken various records also.

Nothing replaces that feeling of gratitude when kindness is shown, especially to an animal.We found a badly hurt cat that might have been hit by a car. Her state had us in tears. After getting over the initial shock of witnessing the pain and suffering this poor creature faced, for we don’t even know how long, decisions had to be made as to how to help this animal. She was past the point of saving, but she didn’t deserve to die this way.We called the information centre, in order to get the SPCA’s number, but seeing that it was just after 5 o’ clock, nobody at the SPCA answered. What now? Where do we take her now? We felt so helpless and emotional.Luckily we then remembered about the 24-hour Veterinary Clinic that is situated in 2nd Avenue, Alberton. We loaded her in the car and rushed as fast as we could to them. The lady behind the reception desk immediately came to our aid, and we took her in one of their rooms. Her calm and reassuring assistance helped control the situation. A heartfelt thanks to the Veterinary Clinic. Small acts of kindness make lasting impressions.
