Maar kunstefeeste is meer as dit. Partykeer sing die kees ook “Pampoen”... Ons het seker maar vooropgestelde idees van hoe die gemiddelde kunstefees is. Die beste medisyne is dalk maar om die karavaantjie te pak en self te gaan beleef hoe een is. Die land krioel van sulke feeste, maar die grotes, binne reikafstand, is “Innibos”, wat einde Julie in Nelspruit aangebied word en onlangs as die land se gewildste fees aangewys is, en “Aardklop”, wat van ‘n gewisse dood gered is en later vanjaar steeds in Potchefstroom sal plaasvind. Yes, we all put our pj’s on, headed down to The Good Luck Bar with our pillows and enjoyed dancing, pillow fights and one of my favourite local bands, Georgetown. We also celebrated our wonderful friend’s birthday (happy birthday Philda, in case you missed any messages).So I started wondering – why is it that people have so little faith in the South African entertainment industry? Many times I’ve heard the words ‘’it was good, for a South African band’’ or ‘’I don’t want to pay that amount of money to see a local band, maybe an international one’’. Here is my question: if we don’t support our local artists, how do we expect them to grow and develop into something that we would consider ‘’good enough’’?The saying goes ‘’charity begins at home’’. This doesn’t only apply to charity. This applies to most aspects of life. Let’s start local. We do this by supporting friends’ ventures, no matter what they are. We support our local shops and service providers, before we run off and tell everyone how everything is ‘’bigger and better’’ somewhere else. Daai soort wat die vensters swart geverf is en ‘n grys kat op ‘n verwaarloosde bank vir jou lê en kyk.Nou ek is een van daardie mense wat my melk kook voor ek die koffi e bygooi. Koffi e wat gebrou is in ‘n koffi emasjien. Wat nou gemaak?

Ek kry toe nou maar ‘n klein

botteltjie koffi e, van daai wat sê “freeze dried”. Melk in ‘n potjie op die stoof. Wel, nou moet ek ‘n nuwe potjie ook aanskaf.Ek sê vir Gysie hy moet nou maar oë toeknyp en sy beursie oopmaak, want hierdie koffi e liefhebber gaan dit nie oorleef nie. Min wetende hoe heng duur die goed is! Maar dit het ek mos nou self geleer; goedkoop koop is duur koop. Daai twee items het ons nie eens agt maande gehou nie! Ja, met party items

Alberton Child Welfare hosted a high-end fundraising winter dinner on Friday 3 June at Thaba Eco Hotel.Held in conjunction with leading South African wine and spirits producer KWV and musical band A Touch of Class, the event was attended by top businesses and leading members of the local community. Guests were treated to a three course meal coupled with a sponsored brandy, chocolate and fudge tasting by KWV, as well as live entertainment by A Touch of Class. “Alberton Child Welfare has been serving vulnerable families and children for over 75 years. The reason for our existence is to preserve and strengthen families,” said Alberton Child Welfare Board Member Lizanne Booysen-Nel. Booysen-Nel noted that Alberton Child Welfare is going through a difficult financial crisis, adding that fundraisers such as this truly assist the organisation in its endeavours to help the community.More than R50 000 was raised through the sold tickets alone for the event. Alberton Child Welfare would like to thank all the sponsors who made theevening a success.
