FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Our prayers and thoughts go out to all who have been affected by the flood. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know. City Hall has registration forms for assis-tance with the government if needed. But we are here as well to help in any way possible.

Thanks to all who worked so hard to make the Trojan Day possible and a success. Let us pray for a continued spirit of unity throughout the year.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) will be start-ing soon. This is for anyone who is not Catholic and is interested in becoming Catholic possibly. This is also for Catholics who need First Communion and/or Confirmation. This is also for con-firmed Catholics who just want to learn more about your faith. Please spread the word to all of the above and have them call me for an interview.

We are in need of new readers, extraordinary lay minis-ters of Holy Communion and altar servers at Mass. Please call Fr. Tom to sign up. There will be training for all of the above.

There’s a little old Catholic lady living next door to an atheist. Every morning the lady goes out on her front porch and shouts, “Praise the Lord!” And every day, the atheist yells back, “There is no God!” After a while, though the lady runs into financial difficulties and has trouble buying food. But every morning she goes out on the porch and asks God for help with groceries and then shouts, “Praise the Lord!” One morning when she goes out on her porch, she discovers the groceries she’s prayed for, of course she shouts “Praise the Lord!” Just then, the atheist leaps out from behind a bush and says, “Ha, there’s no God – I bought those groceries for you!”

The lady looks at him and smiles. Then she shouts all the louder, “Praise the Lord! Not only did you provide for me, Lord, you also made Satan pay for the groceries!”

stronger. I’m about 6 inches long and I weigh 6 ounces. When mommy goes to the doctor, she can listen to my heart! I hope to be able to run and play in God’s world. Well, your little baby now weighs 6 ounces. He has fingernails and eye lashes. He has his own unique fingerprints which will remain the

same until he dies. His taste buds are working. His sense of hearing is developing and present at 14 weeks. There are no major developments

anymore. Your spiritually adopted baby is already well-formed, internally and externally. All he needs

is time to gain weight and grow strong!

August 21st - 21st Sunday Ordinary Time: The Gospel reading today starts with a question: “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” Jesus offers only a simple reply: Strive to enter through the narrow gate. Many will try to enter and will not be able. Good stewards know there is only one, narrow gate. Not everything will fit. This narrow gate has no room for our accomplishments. No room for our money. No room for our possessions. No room for anything else but those who’ve been good stewards of the Gospel. We can’t custom build our own gates either. There is only one, narrow gate that happens to be open for a time, but for how long? What is our plan of action to get through that gate?
