Little Diggers is for all those who like to dig, delve and discover for themselves all about objects and stories from the past. Our new early years area is aimed at children aged 2 – 5 years, with lots of fun resources including dressing up, puppets, storybooks and games. Award winning children’s author Terry Deary comes to Barley Hall with a brand new exhibition that explores life, death and all the gruesome bits in between, in York during the Middle Ages. Costumes and excerpts from the popular BBC TV show Horrible Histories will take centre stage alongside archaeological evidence from York’s medieval cemeteries and records of how the people of York were treated, cured, and killed by the medical practitioners of the time. Look out for special events with Terry Deary throughout the year and buy your gory goods at Barley Hall’s specially themed shop.

Sunday 24th MarchBattle of Towton Commemorative Event10.00 – 16.00 | Towton Hall, Towton (3.5 miles south of Tadcaster)£3, Under 12 years FREEMeet the Towton Battlefield Society for falconry displays, traders, living history, guided walks, crafts, and military displays by the Wars of the Roses Federation. Meet costumed re-enactors from York Archaeological Trust and have a go at archaeology-themed activities! Walkers are advised to wear sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing.
