Engine. US Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIAcompliant C7 engine with ACERTTechnology combines proven systems withinnovative new technologies to preciselydeliver fuel to the combustion chamber. Itmaintains engine performance, efficiencyand durability while dramatically reducingemissions.

The Cat C7 is a 7.2 L displacement, 6-cylinder, electronically governed engine.Electronic fuel injection is provided throughthe well-proven Caterpillar hydraulicallyactuated, electronically controlled unitinjection (HEUI) system. A wastegateturbocharger, equipped with a titaniumwheel for improved durability, combinedwith air-to-air aftercooling (ATAAC)provides consistent high horsepower withincreased altitude capability.

Optimum power. The engine performs at afull-rated gross power of 225 hp (168 kW)at 2200 rpm. Engine power curve isoptimized for milling applications providingoptimum power while keeping the engineoperating at peak efficiency.

The ADEM™ A4 electronic controlmodule. This module manages fueldelivery, valve timing and airflow forefficient performance per gallon(liter) of fuel used. The controlmodule provides flexible fuelmapping, allowing the engine torespond quickly to varyingapplication needs. It monitors engineand machine conditions while keepingthe engine operating at peakefficiency.

Engine Block and Pistons. The grey cast iron engine block is made of thesame material as the cylinder heads.Wall diameters are thicker than inprevious designs while adjustmentshave been made to reduce soundlevels and increase rigidity. One-pieceall-steel pistons are housed within awet, replaceable cast iron cylinderliner constructed of high-strength,heat-treated castings. Steel-forgedconnecting rods are larger in diameter.

Easier service, maintenance andrepair through monitoring keyfunctions and logging criticalindicators. Advanced electronicdiagnostic capabilities are possibleusing Cat Electronic Technician.

High cylinder pressures. High cylinderpressures combined with tightlycontrolled tolerances promoteextremely efficient fuel burn, less blowby and lower emissions.

Hydraulically Actuated Electronic Unit Injectors (HEUI). The HEUIsystem has been at work in Cat enginesacross the product line with a proventrack record of consistent, durable,reliable performance.

Precise multiple injection fueldelivery. Combustion chambertemperatures are lowered by preciselyshaping the combustion cycle,generating fewer emissions andoptimizing fuel combustion. The resultis more work output for your fuel cost.

Turbocharged and air-to-airaftercooling. High horsepower withincreased response time is assuredwhile keeping exhaust temperatureslow for long hours of continuousoperation.

Propel SystemHydrostatic drive with hydraulic flow provided by a variable displacement axial pistonpump. Dual displacement drive motors on each track provides balanced tractive effort.

Load control system (anti-stall).The electronically controlled systemmatches propel speed to load on enginefor maximum production.

Two speed ranges. The machineoperates at either maximum torquethroughout the entire milling speedrange or at a faster travel speed formoving around the job site.

Positive traction control (flow divider).Equal hydraulic oil flow to each drivemotor increases tractive effort in hardcutting applications. The positivetraction control is actuated from theoperator’s console.

Total traction. The hydrostatictransmission on all four wheels, via aflow divider, and self levelling frontaxle ensure positive traction andoptimum performance in allapplications.

Optimum maneuverability. The large,wide-tread tires provide optimummaneuverability on tight curves andtraction when driving in and out of the cut.

High travel speed. The high travel speedof the PM102 significantly reducesrepositioning times and machine transferon the job site.

Flush cutting. The right rear wheelsupport can be positioned inside themachine’s cutting width for full flushcutting applications. With the right rearwheel swung in, the machine can cutclose to a wall, barrier, or other verticalobstruction.

Optimum tool spacing. Triple-tree toolplacement on rotor ends providesoptimum tool spacing to clean up loosematerial and reduces wear on drumwhen maneuvering in the cut.

Rotor DriveDelivers maximum available horsepower to each cutting tool.

Mechanical dry clutch. The rotor driveconsists of trapezoid pulleys, moldedhigh-strength belt and a hydraulic-coupling dry clutch. The field-provendrive system delivers reliability andlong service life.

Drive train protection. A drive trainprotection device protects rotor drivesystem, rotor and tools by instantlydisengaging rotor drive whenever anabrupt drop in rotor rpm occurs.

Two cutting speeds. Upper and lowersheaves are easily interchangeable formaximum torque with the toughestmaterials and different material sizingrequirements.

Molded six-rib high tensile belt. Hightensile belt provides efficienttransmission and long service life.

Automatic belt tension adjustment. Thehydraulically powered automatic drivebelt tensioner prevents rotor drive beltslippage and reduces maintenance.

Automatic Grade and Slope Control OptionThe optional grade controls provide precise control of rotor to a preset cutting depth.System can be configured to control grade or cross slope.

Contacting wire rope grade sensors.Wire rope grade sensor measures sideplate movement that enables the entirelength of the side plate to become anaveraging device for extremely accurategrade matching. Cross slope sensoradds to system versatility.

Leveling control boxes. Two controlboxes located at the operator’s stationallow manual or automatic levelingadjustment. Constant read-out for rotordepth and cross slope are displayed oneach control box and is easily visibleeven in direct sunlight or low lightconditions.

Primary Collecting ConveyorThe collecting conveyor belt efficiently clears out the cutter box fast. Water spray systemfor lubrication, cooling and dust reduction.

Optimum material sizing and gradation.The hydraulically operated anti-slabdevice prevents slabbing of the roadsurface, protects the collectingconveyor and ensures an optimumdischarge opening to the rotor chamber.

550 mm (21.6") wide collectingconveyor. Driven by a high torquehydraulic motor for maximumefficiency. An optional 600 mm (23.6")wide collecting conveyor is alsoavailable.

Variable belt speed. The collectingconveyor features variable belt speedfor optimum production in allapplications. Reversible belt rotationcontrol is also provided.

Optimum dust reduction. Standardpressurized water spray lubricates andcontrols dust on collecting belt. Waterspray nozzles are easily removed forinspection and replacement without theneed for tools.

Folding Front Loading ConveyorHigh capacity and versatility add to increased job site productivity. Conveyor can be foldedto reduce machine dimensions during transport.

Folding conveyor. Machinetransportation is made easier by thefolding front conveyor that reduces themachine dimensions.

600 mm (23.6") wide upper conveyor.Height adjustment is hydraulicallycontrolled and two cylinders provide a41 degree swing to the left and right.

Variable loading belt speed andreversible rotation. The front loadingconveyor also includes variable beltspeed and reversible belt rotationcontrol. The loading belt speed isinfinitely variable and providesoptimum discharge capability foruniformly loading the haul truck.

Simplified conveyor removal.Quick-fitting hydraulics and mechanicalconveyor components allow the frontconveyor to be easily detached from themachine.

Operator’s StationDesigned for efficiency, productivity and simple operation. Easy to reach controls minimizeoperator fatigue.

Ergonomic operator’s station. The fullwidth operator’s station provides a viewof the front loading conveyor and sideplates for precise and rapid positioning.

Suspension seat. Durable suspensionseat with armrest provides optimumoperator comfort.

Warning horns and shut down buttons.Located on the operator’s station and atground level control stations.

Hydraulically operated canopy option.Full width canopy with two extendingside wings and front windshield andrear window provides optimumoperator comfort and protection.Canopy can be hydraulically loweredduring transportation.

Operating controls. The distribution andclear instrumentation layout on thefront and side control consoles havebeen designed to ensure minimumoperator effort and maximumautomation. All gauges and displays areeasily visible even in direct sunlight.

Graphic display. A large display, easilyvisible in direct sunlight, providesoperating parameters for machine andengine diagnostics. The display presentsa single interface for service diagnosticsand calibration. Standard display isblack and white; an optional colordisplay is available.

Computerized monitoring system. Thesystem constantly monitors systempressures and engine condition withmultiple modes of operation. Alerts theoperator if a problem does occur withthree levels of event information.

Standby control. A single switch controlallows the operator to engage ordisengage main operating functionsincluding propel, water spray system,leveling system and conveyor rotationfor maximum automation.

Steering Right Rear TrackOptimum machine handling for precise control and production.

Precise control. A microprocessorelectronically controls the steeringangle of the right rear track. The reartrack steering angle is automaticallyadjusted in relation to the position ofthe front tracks.

Enhanced steering ability. Themachine’s rear track steering featurefacilitates operation in confined areasand ensures a close cut around cul-de-sacs or turns. The right rear track steersin both positions, whether positionedwithin or outside the cutting width.

Flush Cutting FeatureFull flush cutting operation with hydraulic control of the right rear leg allows the PM102 to be used up close to a curb, wall or guard rail.

Grade and Slope ControlMachine elevation – rotor depth and cross slope controlled manually by operator isstandard. Automatic rotor depth and slope control is optional and features electronicover hydraulic control. Slope sensor adds versatility.

Features

■ Machine elevation controls located on the operator’s console allows rotor depth andcross slope to be controlled manually. Visual depth gauge displays depth of cut.

■ The optional AUTOMATIC grade and slope control automatically controls rotordepth and cross slope to a preset cutting depth. Setting cutting depth is easilyaccomplished first in manual mode by using the adjustment knob on the controller.

■ Wire rope contacting grade sensor measures side plate movement that enables theentire length of the side plate to become a mini averaging ski for optimum gradematching.
