What a massive few weeks it has been for the sport of bowls in South Australia with Adelaide

hosting the 2012 World Championships. The event was a great spectacle and the feedback from the players, officials and the numerous visitors that attended the event from far and wide was extremely positive. Congratulations to the Australian team. To win five Gold and two Silver medals from the eight disciplines is a wonderful achievement. I would also like to congratulate Grange’s World Champion Wayne Ruediger on his Gold medal in the Fours and Silver in the Triples. As I have mentioned previously, Wayne is a wonderful ambassador for the sport and his success is well deserved. The Host Clubs, Lockleys and Holdfast Bay, put on a great show and the support of the Members who volunteered, not just during the Championships but in the months leading into the event, was fantastic. To Presidents Bill Green and Sandra Wallace and all your Members, congratulations on a job well done. I would also like to acknowledge the Greenkeepers at both clubs, Kevin Lewis and Brad Porter, and their teams who

have worked so hard over a number of years to prepare world class greens. As we all know, bowlers can be quick to complain about the quality of the greens, but there was nothing but praise from the competitors about the standard of greens at both clubs. To the Member Clubs that hosted countries, thank you for your generosity and hospitality that was warmly received and appreciated by the visiting teams. Finally, to the numerous volunteers and officials that put in hours of hard work over the 16 days, in sometimes very trying conditions, the event wouldn’t have been the success it was without your support. The challenge for us now is to harness the success of the event and the exposure that the sport has enjoyed and translate that into opportunities to grow the sport to the broader community.As mentioned in my column in the last edition of the SA Bowler, Bowls SA had applied for an extension to the Exemption that was granted by the Equal Opportunity Tribunal to enable the Association to conduct single

gender competitions, in conjunction with open competitions.The judgment was handed down on 12 December 2012 and the Tribunal granted Bowls SA a further exemption to 30 June 2014 from s35(1)(b) and s39(1)(b)(c) and (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 to enable Bowls SA to continue to organise and conduct single gender bowls competitions.The implications of the judgment are currently being considered and further information will be provided once this process has been completed.It has been a very hectic few months for everybody here at Bowls SA and we are all looking forward to the Christmas and New Year break. I hope that you all enjoy a safe and relaxing festive season…

With so much happening in the bowls world over the last few months, it’s hard to realise

that not only is the year coming to a close but after four years of planning and anticipation the long awaited World Bowls Championships have also been run and won.World Bowls has certainly been the highlight of the year and the professional presentation has been a credit to the WB2012 Board, the host clubs, Lockleys and Holdfast Bay, the volunteers and all support staff.

23 November.

During the 16 days of the event, the colour, skills and mingling of cultures made for an addictive mix and spectators were treated to an abundance of elite bowlers at their best. The presentation of the Lockleys and Holdfast Bay Bowling Clubs was exceptional and a wonderful showcase of the sport in South Australia.Thank you to all that were involved in making this event so memorable.The New Year will see a host of Bowls SA events starting off with the State Singles Finals on January 26 and 27, leading into the ever popular Men’s Country Carnival which commences on February 4, with Finals on Monday February 11.The Lockleys and Hawthorn Bowling Clubs have both recorded a milestone in their history when they recently celebrated their 100th Anniversary. The history of both clubs was a focal point of the celebrations and congratulations to the members who had the foresight to research and collate this historic record. They should be justly proud of their effort.

Across all levels, the sport relies heavily on ‘behind the scenes’ activities and I would like to acknowledge the General Manager, staff and committee members of Bowls SA for their efficiency and management of the sport in South Australia. My appreciation also goes to the members of the Board and Council who, as volunteers not only put in many hours, but travel great distances in support of their role. I have great pleasure in welcoming Leith Gregurke to the Bowls SA Board, to complete the term as Country Male Bowling Director, and look forward to working with him to see the sport continue to prosper. Lastly, it is timely to reflect on those members that are not keeping the best of health. I hope you will soon be well again and able to return to bowling in the New Year. Best wishes to everyone for a great holiday season with family and friends.

Alsco Volunteer Award

As voluntary Maintenance Supervisor for the past 15 years John Trenorden has pruned and cared for the Moonta Memorial Bowling Club gardens and surrounds, monitored the watering systems and replenished the green markings. He has also been an integral part of the planning and management of extensive renovations to the Clubhouse and external areas such as the design and construction of the shade over the greens and the concrete and paved footpaths.John is highly skilled in many aspects of the building trade and, as a master of invention, continually develops or improves machinery to adapt it to Bowling Club requirements. During this time John has served as Club President 2005-2007, and as Chair of the Board of Management directing Financial and Planning Strategies for the Club. As President he utilised his pre-retirement professional knowledge to quietly and confidently represent and lead the Club throughout his term, encouraging participation and sharing his knowledge and skills to ensure continuity of a strong volunteer base. With his passion for the Club so infectious he is now busy mentoring younger members who share his joy in volunteering and seeing their Club prosper. The Club and Members are grateful for John’s dedication and unerring commitment and acknowledge him as a worthy recipient of Alsco Volunteer of the Month.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EXEMPTIONThe ruling on the application lodged by Bowls SA for an extension to exemption that was granted in 2010 by the Equal Opportunity Tribunal enabling Bowls SA to conduct single gender competitions, in conjunction with open competitions, was handed down on 12 December 2012. The Tribunal granted Bowls SA a further exemption to 30 June 2014 from s35(1)(b) and s39(1)(b)(c) and (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 and this enables Bowls SA to continue to organise and conduct single gender bowls competitions.Bowls SA is in the process of assessing the implications of the judgment and will communicate further information to Members, Member Clubs and Associations once this process has been completed.

COUNTRY BOWLING DIRECTORAt the Bowls SA Board Meeting on Monday 19 November 2012 the Board appointed Leith Gregurke ASM to the position of Country Bowling Director for the remainder of the term which, in accordance with the Bowls SA Constitution, will conclude at the end of the Bowls SA Annual General Meeting on Monday 2 September 2013. The casual vacancy was created when Don Crosby was elected as Vice President of Bowls SA at the Annual General Meeting in September 2012. Leith is a member and office bearer of Geranium BC with a strong background in community service through the St

John Ambulance Service, the Geranium Football Club, Geranium School Council and the local CFS. As a farmer and grazier, Leith is a principal partner in L R Gregurke & Partners, and a highly respected member of the local community. Serving four years as a member of the SA Ambulance Service Board as well as sitting on their Finance and Audit Committee, Leith brings excellent attributes to the Board of Bowls SA and the governance of the sport and will be a valuable asset for the organisation.Leith is congratulated on his appointment as Country Board Director on the Board of Bowls SA and we trust he will enjoy this new challenge.

After nine years of involvement with our State Under 18 Boy’s squads and teams Leon Crane has decided to retire.

His absence will certainly be noticed but the timing of his departure is perfect for him and his wife Sue. It has been a long journey for a manager and coach who always put his young charges first and foremost.“Since I became involved with the State Juniors I made a decision that all my own interests came second” he commented during a recent interview. “I have not entered Club events or State events due to training on weekends.” For those who have seen Leon in action such an attitude will come as no surprise and he will be sorely missed by a large number of young bowlers and their families. With participation in our sport halving since 1985 the fostering of younger players is critical. Not only do they bring a new dynamic to clubrooms and greens around the State but the involvement of parents and siblings can only be a plus as we move forward. When one considers the time and energy spent by the likes of Leon and Faye Luke we owe them a great deal of thanks. Sleeping in on a Sunday morning and spending time with family during the day are two things that the former Under 18 coach is looking forward to. In the early years Leon’s parents owned a dairy and market garden and he was born in Blackwood, South Australia. For the first part of his life he lived opposite his grandparents on Crane Ave. During his primary school years he spent time at Coromandel Valley, Port Augusta and Warnertown before attending Port Pirie High School. His first job was at home helping his mother and father run a general store which offered postal services and petrol sales. His mother suffered from severe asthma and as her health improved he took up a position feeding the primary crusher at Andrews Quarries in Warnertown. However, a relapse saw the family move to Golden Grove where Leon’s father was employed by the Tea Tree Gully Council.

“Dad came home one night and asked if I wanted a job with the Council” Leon reminisced. “It was using a pick and shovel and I was due to sign up for an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic that evening so I asked how much the wage would be. The apprentice wage was about $7.00 a week and the Council wage was $16.00 so I wound up on the pick and shovel!” After 12 months I began operating machinery and I did that for four years before going into private enterprise earth moving. We went out on our own for 10 years before purchasing a 3,000 acre property at Karoonda where we could concentrate on farming and with that came bowls. I started in the “Night Owls” competition before taking up Pennants.”Leon married wife Sue on October 7, 1967 at the Methodist Church in Modbury. The couple had only one daughter, Lee Michele and tragedy struck on May 18, 2008 with her passing at the age of 37. “This absolutely gutted us both” Leon explained. “But it left us with two beautiful granddaughters to remember her by. Being associated with the State Juniors at this tragic time in our lives was very special. We both found great comfort from our involvement with the players and parents in the Junior State Squads. My fondest memories are the friendships I have made throughout this period not only with the past and present players but with the parents and other coaches.” Leon’s philosophies when coaching his teams have been aimed at positivity. “Sitting and watching, whether we are winning or losing has never been easy. We needed to take mental and physical notes which we discussed after the games. These discussions were aimed at not making the same mistake twice and learning from them for the future. However, mistakes will be made regardless. It is all too easy to focus on the negative and the poor results and I have tried to always point out the positives first. This is something that one gains with more experience. I have never focused on the winning or losing; my main concern has been to select and play the correct shot when it presents itself.

To put aside his personal aspirations as a competitor for the good of our sport would have been a hard decision to make. As a country bowler he has been very successful since starting his career at Karoonda Bowling Club in season 1992-93. At this club he won three Club Singles between 1993 and 1998, as well as taking out the Club Triples and Club Fours. He skipped in his second year of bowls and in the past has fulfilled the roles of President 2000-02, Selector, Tournament Director and Greenkeeper. Since joining Murray Bridge Bowling Club he has won the Club Singles and Club Pairs against quality opposition and has served terms as Assistant Regional Councillor and Selector for Region 6. At representative level Leon has competed in several Country Round Robin series as well as being selected for the Prestige Medley. Leon has also served on several Bowls SA Committees, including Coaching and High Performance.It is an impressive resume and when I asked what the future held for them, Leon made the following comments: “We are going to complete this year of Pennants before making any decisions. After our granddaughter’s 18th birthday in May we plan to travel and we should be in Darwin during July to support our teams in the Junior Nationals”.Behind him Leon leaves a legacy of State support in many areas and a large number of young bowlers who have been fortunate to have been under his care. I am sure that all South Australians involved in what is a wonderful bowling community will wish the couple the best of good fortune as time will allow for relaxation and new experiences. They have earned the right to that.

There will be many enduring memories to come out of World Bowls 2012. It was a spectacular event and the sight of the flags

of 27 countries fluttering proudly above Lockleys and Holdfast Bay Bowling Clubs is something that will stay in my mind for a long time. On the first day the brightly coloured ensigns signaled the arrival of competitors, coaches, managers and supporters from competing nations and each looked down over a 16 day period on what I can only describe as “The Friendly Games.” Lawn bowls is a sport that one can begin playing at an early age and in the future a 50 or 60 year career in the sport will be common place. As I moved around the two venues the sidelines were packed with retired

champions or long term members of the worldwide bowling community. Many now hold official positions and all were mixing freely with some of our up and coming stars and renewing friendships that had endured for many years. For South Australian Hall of Fame inductee Errol Bungey OAM and Bowls New Zealand CEO Kerry Clarke OBE it was a further opportunity to reflect on some history and to continue a friendship which has endured for decades. Beside them 17 year olds Renee McPharlin and Breenna Dickson soaked up the atmosphere. The two met on a bowling green at the age of nine and both are Australia Under 18 squad members. They have never attended the same school nor have they lived in the same suburb; it is the sport of Lawn Bowls that brought them together. It is such relationships that make our sport so great. In an imperfect world the sight of

competitors from small nations and large, from different backgrounds and creeds openly embracing after competing on the greens or sitting together in the clubhouse was something to behold. There were many special moments and Team USA Women’s Singles player Kimberly Heiser best summed up the atmosphere that was so prevalent with the following words; “It didn’t matter whether I was playing against a champion from one of the bigger nations or a team member from a small country I was always afforded respect. The spirit of sportsmanship was always present.” For World Bowls 2012 General Manager Shaun Doyle and his hard working group it was a triumph. The logistics of preparing for such an event are enormous with all aspects of the operation including volunteers and management needing to work as one unit. That was achieved and the performance of Australia Coach Steve Glasson, his assistants Robbie Dobbins and South Australia’s Faye Luke along

with the “Jackaroo” team put the icing on the cake. When I asked Doyle to comment after the event he made the following statement: “The event has been a great success and all the plans that we have put in place over a four year period have come to fruition. The Asia Pacific Championships although run as a separate event gave us an opportunity to fine-tune things in the lead up to World Bowls. The ITOs and volunteers can be grouped as one, they are the lifeblood of such an event and it is a credit to all of them that things ran so smoothly. The host clubs also deserve our thanks.” On the Wednesday prior to the opening of the extended tournament I was sitting at Marion Bowling Club watching the South African Proteas run through some drills. After a long flight from Johannesburg the group had arrived at 11pm the night before and it was to be the playing group’s first practice session in the lead up to the Olympics of bowls. By 1pm in the afternoon the temperature had soared to 37 degrees Celsius and as it turned out it proved to be a precursor of what was to come

in the first week of the championships. I was based at Holdfast Bay for the first eight days of the event and despite a sea breeze wafting through the venue it was a tough time for ITOs and volunteers alike as the mercury soared. For ITO Joan Prosser and her counterparts who were on their feet for hours at a time it became a challenge and while we talk of players requiring 100% concentration during a game the same goes for those whose duties are very important and well defined. The logistics of running such an event are enormous and one wonders how things were done in the days before computers, mobile phones and other electronic gadgetry.

On the second evening at Holdfast a 20 minute power cut had organisers searching for a quick solution as score boards switched off and play was halted. In my experience it was the only hiccup in what was triumph for the organisers in an event that ran for 16 days. To those who volunteered to assist in so many areas I take my hat off to you. Car-park attendants, gate keepers, scoreboard attendants and those with varied jobs within the confines worked tirelessly alongside local bar staff including long term Holdfast Bay member Danny Dahlitz who at 80 years of age never missed a day. With Holdfast Bay President Sandy Wallace involved as an ITO, Secretary John McDougall also worked tirelessly with his members, as volunteers dressed in bright orange apparel went about their duties.Undoubtedly the highlight of the week for me came off the green when I had the time to sit with four generations of the Ruediger family. As South Australia’s only representative at World Bowls 2012 Wayne was in constant demand by the media and I appreciated being able to sit quietly with him, his Grandmother Neata, father Kym, sister Tracey and wife Nikki

along with children Jack, Molly and six months old Max. For a bowling family of such quality Holdfast Bay Bowling Club could well be termed an “Ancestral Home”. It is the home club of Grandfather Ron who is a legend in our game and it is also the club which introduced Wayne to greenkeeping and Lawn Bowls. There could have been no better place to have debuted in World Bowls and, under immense scrutiny, the Grange maestro delivered as we knew he would. A Gold medal in the Fours alongside Brett Wilkie, Mark Casey and Aron Sherriff was followed with a Silver medal in the Triples after a 13-12 loss to Scotland. 18 months ago Ruediger would not have thought of an involvement in the five strong Men’s team, let alone the results that followed.On the Wednesday of the second week the focus shifted entirely to Lockleys Bowling Club where the Finals were to be run and with the move came more high temperatures and often high humidity which made things uncomfortable. Despite the conditions volunteers from South Australia and interstate continued the hard work manning car parks and ticket offices, cleaning the environs and tending to patrons; many who sat outside under sun umbrellas watching

the action on a large screen. It was a wonderful final six days and President Bill Green and his members can take a bow. Lockleys Bowling Club is in its 100th year of operation and the year has finished with a bang. To greenkeepers Brad Porter (Lockleys) and Kevin Lewis and apprentice Max Kleinig (Holdfast), along with their assistants we offer our congratulations. It has been a year of unpredictable weather and preparations have been difficult but as with the Asia Pacific Championships and the SA International you presented competitors with quality surfaces. We will finish this article with some comments from Geoff Nethercott, Chairman of World Bowls 2012. “WB2012 was five years in the making. After a tendering process through Bowls Australia, Adelaide was again offered the hosting rights and this couldn’t have happened without the assistance of the SA State Government through Events SA. For many of us it was a labour of love and nothing could have happened without the assistance of volunteers who took on any job that needed attention. In the end it came down to these people along with Shaun Doyle and his group.” WB2012 was a wonderful promotion for the sport and all involved should be congratulated on the success of the event.

If one was asked what part Doctor’s Riddle and Steele played in the history of our great sport in South Australia few would recognise the

names. Both men come from a bygone age and were among the competitors who participated in the second SA Men’s Country Carnival held in 1927. It was a time when those entered were furnished with a booklet that included instructions on which electric tram or train to catch to each venue along with a list of entrants in both Singles and “Rink” Championships. We can tell you that Dr Riddle from Kapunda took out the Rink Championship against Dr Steele and his name is etched into the fabric of his local club and in the history of our sport in South Australia. As a matter of interest they were the only two medical practitioners in the draw and just maybe between them they had a cure for erratic bowls along with back aches and poor eyesight. It is also interesting to note that the 1927 Carnival was held just three years before the formation of the South Australian Women’s Bowling Association in 1930 with Hall of Fame inductee Dorothy Wheeler a driving force behind this ground breaking decision. The first Carnival had been held in 1917 and although successful it would be a decade before country bowlers again travelled to Adelaide for what would become an annual pilgrimage to the capital. Apart from the years 1942-45 and a couple of other occasions the event has continued unabated until the present day. For many, catching up with friends or acquaintances from around the State is the highlight of their bowling year and it is a two week period during which selected metropolitan clubs host competitors and supporters.

In the early days the extended tournament was run over Easter with Sunday a rest day. This gave competitors and their wives an opportunity to attend church in the morning and to explore the city and Hills areas in the afternoon. By the third decade of the 20th Century many city clubs had greens lit up by electric lights and after the Country Carnival a match between metropolitan and country sides took place. In this day and age, computers and improved communications take care of the logistical problems associated with the running of extended events. In the 1920’s there were no such luxuries and we are fortunate to have retained excellent records which sit in the archives at Bowls SA.It seems paradoxical that while participation numbers and pennant teams fielded by country clubs have diminished over recent times the Carnival continues to prosper. In 2011/12 record numbers of competitors registered and bowled in the event in a sign that interest is as high as it ever has been. Having played all my bowls away from the city I know that a Country title in any discipline is highly sort after and over the last 20 years particular regions or individuals have made the competition their own. “The growing numbers is an indication that the social side and goodwill in country areas still exists in tough economic times” Bowls SA’s Rhys Taylor commented when we were discussing the Carnival. “It is easy to see that numbers are continuing to grow because of the additional greens space we require each year.” Among the raft of bowlers from all regions who are ready to go in the 2012/13 MGA Men’s Country Carnival are some of the reigning champions

from last year. The opportunity to go ‘back to back’ in such a high profile event is an exciting prospect. Last season’s successful Fours combination of Andrew Stazinowski, Len Gommers, John Obst and Des Kluske will return for another tilt at glory. However, to achieve the same result his team will need to climb over sides which include former Country and State champions and bowlers who are ready and able to take up the challenge. Stazinowski from the Jervois Club has competed in many Carnivals and will open his title defence at Salisbury Bowling Club on the first day of competition. If we look at the draw in all disciplines the names of former State Champions Dennis and Craig Treloar and Ken Stokes leap off the page. They come from the Berri Bowling Club and after a couple of years of mixed results the playing group from one of the most successful country clubs in South Australia will be looking for further success. From the Copper Triangle former “SA Male Bowler of the Year” Steve Eichenberger and former State representative Roger Spry will be looking to build on impressive resumes while Kadina’s Bruce Hines will be going all out to defend his Singles title. After the Carnival some players will carry on to represent their Regions in the Country Round Robin while most will return to their home towns. Later in the year the country women will pack their bags, wave good-bye to husbands and offspring before travelling to the capital for the MGA Women’s Country Carnival. The traditions of fellowship and great competition prevail as both genders continue to embrace what is one of Australia’s most enduring events.

Country Carnival:An Annual Migration

Richards the night of November 23, 2012 was a triumph.

After a stellar 12 months on the greens she had been named as the Country Carnival Player of The Year at the Bowls SA Awards night in May and subsequently had been nominated in the category ‘Country Athlete of the Year’ at the Sport SA, The Advertiser, Channel Seven Sports Star of the Year Awards. Along with husband Chris she sat at the Festival Theatre awaiting her fate. The field had been narrowed down to three nominees, Richards, SA Men’s Netball’s Daniel Lee Lawlor and SA Cricket Association’s Kieran Ashby. Surrounding her were some of South Australia’s greatest athletes including Anna Meares, Russell Ebert and Brenton Sanderson and on stage His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, Governor of South Australia and his wife Liz. It would be difficult to pick a more special atmosphere to win an award and when Richard’s name was called out as the winner of the South Australian Country Athlete of the Year it took the South Eastern champion to a special place in the history of bowls in our State. In May of this year she had also been presented with Life Membership at her home club Port McDonnell and one wonders what will come next in what has been an exceptional career.

Heather was born in Mt Gambier and has never lived far from her birthplace. Educated at Allendale Area School she completed all High School certificates and since that point most of her life has been spent in the coastal area of Port McDonnell which is the southernmost port in South Australia. She married husband Chris on 13 December 1969 and the couple have three children and three grandchildren. As a couple they have won the Club Mixed Pairs competition on four occasions and have been great supporters of our sport. They are often seen together at men’s and mixed tournaments throughout the State and when they arrive crayfish often appears on the raffle table. Heather’s bowling career began as a “Night Owler” in 1992 and like so many others she took to the sport immediately. Her introduction to the “real thing” began in October of the same year and she has bowled in Pennant and Club competitions ever since. A great recorder of facts when it comes to lawn bowls she furnished me with a complete resume of her successes but also included a record of runner-up performances in State and country events. I am sure that the losses have been as much of a motivator as the wins during what has been a spectacular career. For those who have watched her on the greens you would have seen a woman who possesses all the attributes that make champion sports people. A no nonsense

and often hardnosed approach to competition along with an enormous

amount of talent has seen Heather as a force in the South East since

1994 when she won her first Club Singles. I have seen her

bowl often since and there is no doubt that a great will to win is one of her great attributes. In 1995 she won the Pairs, Triples and Fours titles at her home club and to date she has picked up 11 Singles, eight Pairs, nine triples and 10 fours at Port McDonnell.

At South Eastern Women’s Bowling Association level she

has won three Singles, three Pairs, two Triples and a Fours

title and has eight wins at Region One Divisional level including two

Singles and three Pairs. Since defeating Jenny Sharpe 21-19 in

the 2003/04 Country Singles, Heather has gone on to grab a further eight Country titles including the Singles, Pairs (with Margaret Marshall) and Fours (with Marj Richardson, Margaret Marshall and Joy Bilney) in season 2011/12. After such success it is little wonder that her career has also included selection in Country Round Robin and State Women’s teams and it is worthwhile looking at her Round Robin participation. This competition is close to the hearts of many South Australians and after being selected as a reserve in 1995 Heather began her Country representative career in season 1997/98 and apart from 2001/02 she has continued her run up until this year. After three series as a Lead she began Skipping in 2002/03 and has retained that position ever since. In 2000/01 as a Third she was a member of a South Eastern team which proved to be the only four to have won all games in the competition and in 2002/03 Skipped in a series which saw Division 1 winners for the first time since 1975/76. In State colours Heather has made 12 appearances between September 2003 and November 2004. Her first series was against the ACT at Renmark RSL where she was named as Third to Riina Bradbrook with June Foley at Second and Robyn Fisher at Lead. For the records South Australia won the series 2-1. Her only Australian Sides Championships was at Newcastle the following year where she again played in the Third position this time for Jeanette Sibly. Her State career ended in 2004 after a series against Victoria at Darebin Bowling Club.After so many great performances over a 20 year period we just had to ask what she considered her best win and the answer came quickly.“Beating Karen Murphy 25-22 in the Singles at Woodville during the 27th National Championships in 2001”.And what does the future hold? “I want to continue enjoying the competition and to keep playing well” she commented. Whatever the future brings, Heather Richards has already etched her name into the fabric of our sport and you can be sure that there will plenty of success to come. To have bowled at one club for her entire career says a lot about one of the State’s leading exponents of our game and we wish her the best of good fortune in the coming years.

FORFEITS & WITHDRAWALSIf necessary to withdraw or forfeit owing to unforeseen circumstances, players must notify the Event Manager and Venue Manager.If a team or Singles player fails to fulfil a commitment without justifiable cause in the opinion of the Match and Program Committee, they shall be liable for a penalty not exceeding $110.00 (GST inc) per player.Failure to comply with this directive will result in each player incurring the fine and becoming ineligible to compete in all State and Pennant competitions until payment is made to Bowls SA.In the event of a forfeit the winner will be credited with 2 points and 5 shots.

SCORE CARDS & SCORINGThe names of EVERY player in the side must be recorded on score cards. Score cards are to be retained by the Club Secretary until the Finals are completed and must be readily available on request.The team with the greatest number of points shall be declared the winner. Winners of

each game receive 2 points, a Draw 1 point, Loser nil.

EQUALITYIn the event of an equality of wins, to determine the winner of a section the Bowls SA Rules & Conditions of Play for State Tournaments will apply, as follows:• In sectional games, 2 points are awarded

for a win, 1 point for a tie and the entrant with the most points shall be the section winner.

• Should two or more entrants tie with the same number of points, then the entrant with the greatest shots margin shall be the winner.

• In the event of two or more entrants having an equal number of points and shots up, the winner shall be the entrant with the least number of shots scored against them.

• If two entrants are still equal, the entrant who won the game in which they met shall be the section winner.

• An entrant/s who receives a forfeit in sectional play shall be credited with a win (2 points and 5 shots).

• Any entrant who forfeits the last sectional game, without justifiable cause, shall be disqualified from the remainder of the Country Carnival tournament.

• In Singles sectional play, the number of ‘shots up’ prescribed for the rounds shall be the maximum number of shots accorded to a player when calculating the margin of shots for the purpose of determining a section winner.

LAWSThe ‘Laws of the Sport of Bowls Crystal Mark Second Edition’ shall govern all games.

LUNCHESVenue Clubs will provide a knife and fork meal at a cost of $14.00 per day for ALL COMPETITORS.

EXTREME WEATHERThe Bowls SA Extreme Weather Policy available at www.bowlssa.com.au About Us – Policies, shall apply.Inclement (Wet) WeatherIn the event of inclement (wet) weather before commencement of play, Singles players or team Skippers, are to contact the Club that they were drawn to play at on that day to determine if their greens are closed. In the event of inclement (wet) weather after play has commenced players must remain at the Club to get instructions from the Event Manager.If necessary, due to inclement (wet) weather, to close greens at anytime on the first day of an event, the event will be cancelled.If necessary, due to inclement (wet) weather, to close greens on any subsequent day of an event, play will be postponed and players will be notified of the rescheduled date, time and venue.Players MUST NOT contact the Bowls SA Office in the event of inclement (wet) weather.Extreme HeatEvents will commence, as scheduled, however if considered necessary due to

extreme heat, at the discretion of Bowls SA and the Event Manager, the Conditions of Play may be modified.Where play has commenced on a day of extreme heat or it is deemed that the weather conditions have deteriorated, play may be stopped by appeal of a player/team to the Umpire of the Day or Event Manager.If the Umpire of the Day or Event Manager determines that conditions warrant cessation of play they may act on their decision without right of appeal. Play will be cancelled for the day if it is not possible to resume after one hour from the time of the last stoppage.Bowls SA reserves the right to cancel or postpone a State Event, two days prior, if the forecast temperature is deemed to be excessive during times of prolonged extreme weather.

CANCELLATION DURING PLAYIf the Match & Program has not determined that all play is to be cancelled and weather conditions deteriorate at a Club the Umpire may stop play on appeal by a player in Singles, Skip in team games or after consultation with the home Club’s greens manager or his proxy. The greens manager’s decision would be in regard to the condition of one or all greens at the venue. If play has been stopped it shall not be resumed without the Umpire’s permission. Play will be cancelled for the day if it is not possible to resume after one hour from the time of the last stoppage.All players must remain at the Club until the Event Manager at Bowls SA has called off games. Games may be transferred to another Club nearby and played on a reduced basis.

SMOKINGNo player shall smoke on the playing surface. It is the responsibility of every player to observe this policy and the host Club officials to ensure the comfort of all players in this regard. The Bowls SA NO SMOKING ON THE GREEN policy applies.

MOBILE PHONESMobile phones are not permitted to be used on the green.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCTThe Player Code of Conduct included in the Bowls SA Member Protection Policy shall apply.

PENALTIESThe Bowls SA Board may impose penalties or fines on any player or team for any action or behaviour in breach of the Conditions of Play or Laws of the Sport of Bowls, or where actions are considered to bring the game into disrepute. Any player or team that undertakes a game plan or strategy to achieve a result other than a win in a particular game being played will be liable to Bowls SA imposed penalties or fines.

Off the back of the successful annual Australian Bowls Classic, part of the Australian Open, Bowls SA and Sasrapid established a Development Squad for

athletes with an intellectual disability. The long-time coach of this group of bowlers, Stephanie Simms, was appointed to the role of Squad Coach. Stephanie brings a wealth of experience to this position and this year was named Bowls SA Coach of the Year.

As part of the High Performance Program, the squad has been invited to train alongside other Bowls SA State Teams and access the great support given to other athletes. Over the next few years the squad hopes to be included in further State vs State matches as other States develop their own Squads.Sasrapid was recently successful in receiving a grant from Club One to visit regional areas and coach potential athletes for the squad. Coach Stephanie Simms visited the South East of the state working individually with a number of athletes and was very impressed with their skill and ability.

Two athletes from the squad (1 male and 1 female) will be selected to represent South Australia at the 2013 Australian Open, Bowlers with a Disability. Make sure you check out their results online and give them your support!

Over the last 12 months 19 Bowling Clubs across the State have successfully reaped the rewards of

submitting applications for government grants. Through the Office for Recreation & Sport Community Recreation and Sports Facilities Program, six Bowling Clubs have been granted a total of $229,600 to assist in the installation or replacement of greens, watering systems and lighting. A further 13 Clubs have applied for and been granted a total of $114,941 through the Active Club Program allowing them to undertake kitchen upgrades, installation of a disabled toilet, shade, solar power and air conditioning through to new ground maintenance equipment and coach training and development. These grants can make the difference between a Club prospering or declining and even the smaller amounts to replenish shade or add to equipment can make a significant difference to the ambience of the Club and its ability to attract and retain people to the sport.One of these success stories comes from Encounter Bay. After considerable planning by Club volunteers, a Government grant of

$90,000 was received during October; one of the biggest of its kind. Club President John Colligan and Development Co-ordinator Allan Manning worked hard on the application, under the guidance of Bowls Australia’s Community Development Officer, Mark Easton.This represents the final piece of the puzzle, with the replacement of the last of its three greens to synthetic turf.It also marks the end of an era for local bowls clubs as this is the last lawn green to go synthetic with Encounter Bay, Port Elliot, Victor Harbor and Goolwa now all using synthetic.The criteria included demonstrating how the grant would benefit the community such as allowing bowls to be played year

round and now even on rainy days the water will run off into rainwater tanks to allow play to resume.Lawn turf only allows bowls to be played for a limited time of the year and increased usage of greens is becoming more important, as clubs rely heavily on social bowls to raise numbers.“What we’re actually finding is clubs are becoming more of a social place to

External Defibrillators.Traditionally, members of Bowling Clubs are of a more senior (and wiser) demographic and it’s fair to say that most people link chronic illness with the older generation. But in recent times this has changed with a wider age demographic playing the sport and surprisingly 6.4% of all Australians aged over 15 suffer from a stroke or heart disease each year. It should be more widely known that this is the leading cause of death in Australia every year, after cancer, violent assaults and road casualties. Regrettably, many of these cases occur in the sporting or community environment. In fact, since members typically spend so many hours at their Club, the chance of a cardiac arrest occurring at this time is high as statistics show that 80% of cases occur either at home, at work or in public places – not in a medical facility.The severity of a heart attack surrounds the short response time afforded before fatality. Sudden Cardiac arrest victims have less than 10 minutes to receive defibrillation and CPR treatment before proving ineffective. Ambulance response times in Australia, however, have been cited as greater than 10 minutes.Fortunately, Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are becoming more widespread every day. Back in 1990 when Kerry Packer famously suffered a heart attack he

was lucky to be treated by one of only two ambulances equipped with a defibrillator. Fast forward 20 years and AEDs are placed in public areas for emergency use by even an amateur user, with simple LED and voice prompts and “Good Samaritan” laws in place to protect the public from legal liability.Many Bowling Clubs are commended for having already made the investment into AED units and in doing so are potentially helping to save lives. One such case happened recently at a bowling club function when a member was reluctant to admit that she was not feeling well. Indigestion was her diagnosis but as the festivities continued in full swing she mentioned the knot in her chest to her pair’s partner who immediately realised that there was something “not quite right”. On further questioning it was revealed that she had experienced some shortness of breath, pain in her arm and a feeling of pressure around her chest, neck and face. Despite her having no history of heart problems the decision was made to call 000 but in a matter of minutes her condition deteriorated and the training of the Club administrators paid dividends

when the on-site Alsco Automated External Defibrillator was used to administer the first shock. Thankfully the response time of the Ambulance was incredibly quick and when the paramedics arrived they were impressed with the steps already taken.The member was transported to hospital and had bypass surgery the following day. Although she may not be able to return to bowls, due to other health issues, she and her entire family are grateful for the quick attention that was provided that day.CPR and the use of an AED, such as in this situation save lives and Bowls SA encourages all Member Clubs to consider the purchase of an AED. Forty teams from as far as Renmark competed in the second instalment of the Bluesky Healthcare 60 & Overs event at Grange on Wednesday 12 December, in hot and at times uncomfortable conditions.

Teams comprising all men, all women or mixed played a medley of Fours and Pairs. After four rounds, three teams had won all three games, with the West Lakes combination of Phil Cunneen, Joe May, Phil Merchant and Vern Sierp declared the winners. Modbury’s Pat McGuinness claimed second prize ahead of Marion’s David Kurtz. Consolation prizes for best winners of each match were awarded to Renmark’s Ben Quatre-Bornes, Gawler’s Ian Fyfe, Payneham’s Alan Atkinson and Grange’s Barry Delbridge.Feedback from members has shown strong support for the return of this level of competition. So for those who still enjoy a spirited game of bowls but would prefer to play in a social environment with bowlers of a similar age group, Bowls SA will be conducting another two 60 and Over competitions after Christmas. Selectors will be focussing their attention on the players in the local events with the aim of forming a side for the annual National 60 & Over event in 2013. BOWLS SA READY TO TAKE ON BOWLS VICTORIAThe Bendigo Bowling Club will host the annual series against Bowls Victoria from January 8 – 10, 2013 and with the Victorians taking home the Loy Carroll and Mulga Cup trophies last year, the challenge is there to bring them both back to South Australia.This year will see the senior men and women, Under 25 men and in a terrific step forward the Under 25 women’s team plus the state Under 18 boy’s and girl’s teams compete in this series. A contingent of around 55 people will travel to Melbourne then by bus to Bendigo to represent Bowls SA.The exciting news that Bowls SA can now form an Under 25 women’s team is testament to the good work undertaken at the Under 18 level over recent years. Both the men’s and women’s teams will provide strong opposition for the Victorians and Faye Luke supported by Scott Nicholls and Trevor Lloyd will support both teams.The Under 18 Boy’s and Girl’s teams have been selected with an eye for future National Under 18 Championships. Each year we identify developing bowlers who we believe will benefit from the experience of an interstate series. This provides us with ongoing depth at the Under 18 level and in turn provides real competition for places in the sides for the Under 18 Nationals. I am sure members wish the players, coaches and managers every success in the upcoming series. Lockleys’ Ian Miller claimed the 2012/13 Open Singles title at Salisbury on Monday 12

November in a nail-biting 25-24 victory, ending Adelaide’s Scott Thulborn’s run of eight victories in finals matches. In the Semi-Finals, both Miller and Thulborn handled the windy conditions well with Thulborn taking 20 ends to defeat Victor Harbor’s Ian Fuller 25-10 whilst Miller took three ends more to defeat Marion’s Matthew Northcott by the same margin.Miller’s early 6-1 lead in the Final was thwarted when Thulborn’s mix of touch draw bowling and power hitting saw him take control at 16-10. To Miller’s credit however, he continued to consistently build heads and play the subtle conversion shots when required to see the score at 24-22 in Thulborn’s favour, and holding shot. However, Miller again played the perfect shot, sitting Thulborn’s shot out for two.

The final end saw both players hold shot before Thulborn delivered his last bowl in his quest to claim victory; but a narrow miss handed “Budda” his maiden singles title.For Miller, the title was eight years in the making after losing the 2004 Open Singles final to Naracoorte’s Ross Adams and success on the 38th end of a marathon final, handed him his second state title after partnering Breeanna Dickson to a State Mixed Pairs win in 2008/09.

HJDS WORLD BOWLS DAYOn Sunday 2 December the Henselite Junior Development Squads came together for the 2012 HJDS World Bowls Extravaganza. The morning saw the HJDS World Bowls Tournament conducted, followed by lunch at Lockleys Bowling Club, with an afternoon of watching the best bowlers in the world compete at the 2012 World Championships. The HJDS World Bowls Tournament involved members drawn into teams, and competing as various World Bowls competing countries to contest the HJDS World Bowls Tournament. The eventual winners, each with two wins and a draw were the teams of New Zealand (James Bodnar and Marcus Simpson), and England (Stephanie Clarke and Kathy Clarke). Thank you to Underdale-Airport for hosting the day.

PE WEEK Physical Education Week celebrates the importance of active and healthy living, and this year Bowls SA were again involved in the metropolitan Come and Try Days held on 5, 6 and 8 November. Over the three days, 360 students

came and had a go at lawn bowls by participating in modified games that used lawn bowls skills and techniques. These sessions were extremely well received by teachers and students alike, and thanks must go to ACHPER SA for coordinating the day.

COACHING REVISION DAY The bi-annual Bowls SA Coaching Revision Day was held at Clearview Bowling Club on Friday 9 November. The day was well attended, with over 50 coaches participating and included guest speakers Faye Luke, National Training Centre Coach for South Australia and the Northern Territory, and Wayne Ruediger, Australian Team Member for the 2012 World Championships, as well as practical exercises covering drills and processes for coaching different shots. Fantastic feedback was received, including comments such as ‘the best revision day I have ever attended’ and ‘excellent presentations’, quite a number of coaches also commented on how they enjoyed the day and the opportunity to share ideas and knowledge with other coaches.

COMPETITION AND SELECTION MODULESNovember saw the roll out of the Competition and Selection Modules. Junior Development Squad members competing at the HJDS World Bowls Day

REGION 2Invitation DayIn late October the Ardrossan Bowling Club held the inaugural Vic Brown OAM Invitation Day.The event, previously known as the Baird/Skipworth Day, had been held in recognition of two members who had worked tirelessly for the Club over many years, George Skipworth and Tom Baird. George Skipworth passed away several years ago and while Tom Baird is still with us he had made the suggestion that the Club should use the day to recognise another valued member of the club.Highly respected and well-known local identity Vic Brown OAM was awarded Life Membership of the Ardrossan Bowling Club in 2002 and it seemed fitting to recognise Vic by renaming the event in his honour.120 Bowlers from most clubs on the Yorke Peninsula, as well as teams from McLaren Vale, Snowtown and Lyndoch participated in the tournament.The winners for the day, on a count-back, were Edithburgh four, Les Diprose, Alan Taylor, Alby Pancione and Rob Pancione. Runners up from Moonta were John Trenorden, Kevin Coates, Bob Wheaton and Rodney Bilsborough.

REGION 3Region 3 CarnivalThe annual three day Region 3 Carnival was held at BHAS and Port Pirie Bowling Clubs with 84 players taking part in the fierce competition. Despite the wet conditions, the final of the Fours was very close and an extra end had to be played to obtain a result; the eventual winner Caltowie 11-10. Wet weather also affected the final of the Pairs between two Whyalla Golf

teams with Helen Smith and Pat Hannan victorious over Brenda Charlesworth and Heather Prosser.

REGION 5A night to rememberAnne Swaffer has been a great ambassador for the Region as Eyre Peninsula Councillor and through her sporting abilities as a player and umpire. On 12 November 2012 a dinner was held with 90 guests gathering to honour Anne following her retirement as Councillor. Current Councillor Di Eatts and Club members had great pleasure in entertaining the crowd by relating amusing anecdotes of Anne’s involvement over the years and club volunteers provided a great feast to make it a night to remember

Association FoursStreaky Bay was the host for the annual Association Fours in early December when Western Eyre, Eastern Eyre and Southern Eyre fielded six teams of four ladies.For many this is the only time they play against bowlers from other Associations within Eyre Peninsula and the camaraderie and friendly rivalry was great despite many close games. Playing only 10 ends each game made

for a cut throat competition with the often heard “we dropped a five on the second to last end” or similar being the reason for some of the losses by teams who thought they “had it in the bag”. At the conclusion of the day, with scores collated, Southern Eyre were declared the winners.

Region 6Marge Llewellyn2012 has been a memorable year for Marge Llewellyn. Not only has she celebrated her 90th Birthday but she’s also on record as being a member of the Murray Bridge RSL Bowling Club for 50 years. Marge joined in 1962 as a foundation member and has played and been involved in the Club continuously ever since. Always active on a committee or as a selector, Marge took on the role of President in 1973 and is currently the Club’s Patron.

Lorna Rowley ShieldEach year, since the 1970s, the Region 6 and 7 ladies have played off for the Lorna Rowley Shield. This year Strathalbyn Bowling Club was host of this very popular challenge.Region 7 Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island have won the event for the last few years but it was time for Region 6 to get even; winning the day with 28 points and 335 shots up over Region 7’s 20 points and 322 shots up. The best performers of the day were Helen Edwards, Jan Lind and Chris Brindal of Port Elliot who teamed with Chris Hoad of McLaren Vale and received the perpetual Marj Blieschke plate.

REGION 7Langhorne Creek AngelsThe ladies of Langhorne Creek Bowling Club were hoping for some divine intervention to assist with their bowling when they hosted a Christmas Gala Day on the December 7, 2012.And they weren’t disappointed, the angels working their magic to produce a great day of fun and Christmas cheer

REGION 9Hope Valley Hosts FijiThere was great excitement when Hope Valley members met the Fijian team at the airport with a specially made banner and a Fijian Flag.The Club was proud to host the WB2012 team and as the men arrived on 16 November 2012 it allowed them almost a week of practice and two very special Friday night meals with members. A typical Aussie barbeque and Pavlova was served one night; corned beef with vegetables and mash, and dessert the other! The women arrived a little later and were able to join with members for a special evening. They are delightful, friendly people and it was a wonderful experience to get to know them.As a thank you for our hospitality the Club was presented with a special plaque made from Fijian timber as a memento of their World Bowls visit.

REGION 11Bob Eckert Day The Bob Eckert Day, in its second year, was held at Christies Beach Bowling Club in October and attracted 12 teams representing Region 11, all vying for the perpetual shield.Amid a great atmosphere of comradeship, Somerton came through to win the day. Sponsor Bob Eckert congratulated the winners and presented them with a plaque for the Club to keep and the perpetual Bob Eckert Shield. As the winning Club, Somerton will host the event next year.

REGION 12Lockleys CentenaryThe greens were at Cross Street when the Lockleys Bowling Club was founded in 1912, but to meet increased membership the move to the current location in Rutland Avenue was completed in 1964. Now 100 years on the wonderful layout of the clubhouse and four greens has attracted a series of major events to South Australia; two Jack High Singles championships in the 1980s, and World Bowls in 1996 and 2012.A celebratory dinner to mark the Club’s Centenary year was attended by President Ivy Kluske, who presented a framed certificate, and official guests. To mark the milestone a book “Times Have Changed”, written by Life Member Vern Butler, was launched last year and provides a detailed and at times humorous account of the Club’s first 100 years.

SO YOU’VE BEEN IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT?

Imagine if the Night Owls competition, drastically changed in the future, even though it might be

financially sound right now.Imagine too that they set up a whole new set of rules you have to abide by before you are allowed to play any bowls competition in the future. Imagine if you continued to pay membership fees but got no return on your membership; that is you were not

allowed to play.I suspect there might be a few bowlers disgruntled about it all. The above is similar to what may occur in respect of our current Motor Accident Compensation Scheme for those involved in motor vehicle collisions and suffer injury. The government released a White Paper, a new Bill, a range of complicated data and guidelines to assess injuries and from a personal perspective it represents a bureaucrat’s heaven. It is an odd situation where we have a properly functioning, well resourced compensation scheme which is about to undergo a major overhaul because of a purported concern about future costs and about the system being unfair. The Treasurer of our State suggested that it is unfair that twelve people who received catastrophic injuries a year, on average, are not covered under our fault based scheme. True, our scheme is one where if the other driver is at fault, you are entitled to compensation. If you are at fault or if there is no other driver involved, there is no compensation that can be

sought through the scheme. There are good reasons for that. The scheme is viable and serves other purposes. It regulates behaviour and is essentially a compensation scheme which has that aspect built into it. It also provides a sense of justice for those who suffer injury through someone’s carelessness, whose injuries are life changing events.The Treasurer suggests that minor injuries should no longer be compensated as they have been for 80 years and that we should now put resources towards the payment of care facilities for those who are catastrophically injured.Commendable initiative but not one that should come at the cost to the rights of 4,000 other injured persons which this government categorises as minor.Preliminary views are that people who suffer from quite debilitating injuries, which affects their ability to enjoy life, affects their ability to work, affects their ability to look after themselves and often requires ongoing types of costs and medical treatment, will have their rights and entitlements modified, restricted or extinguished

Practice is Sectional play in any competition where there is a Bye. In the first round Team A plays Team B whilst Team C has a Bye. Law 13 provides that Team C may practice provided there is sufficient time available without delaying the competition and a rink is available other than the one upon which Team C has been drawn to play in a subsequent round. In the second round Team A plays Team C whilst Team B has the Bye. Is Team B entitled to practice?

All the bowls in a fours game have been played and the thirds agree that a measure may be necessary to determine the shot. One third wants to delay measuring as his nearest bowl is leaning towards the jack and may fall. Is this permitted?

Skip A plays a running shot intending to remove the shot bowl. He is successful. However, his bowl in course then hits the foot of Director B. The bowl bounces off the Director’s foot and subsequently moves a bowl at rest in the head. What action should be taken and by whom?

At the conclusion of play in an end both teams have a bowl touching the jack. Skip A wants to play the next end in the same direction as the just completed end, but Skip B wants it to be played in the opposite direction. Who is correct?

under these proposals.South Australia’s system has 35 catastrophically injured persons a year on average, 12 on average which do not make a claim. Surely we can compensate the twelve such that it does not require us to take away the rights of what is estimated to be 4,000 claimants a year.Various organisations are checking the maths of the proposals. I support looking after those who are injured catastrophically through their own fault but not at the expense of all those who are already injured and have had long standing rights and entitlements. We can put mankind on the moon, send machines into far reaches of space, build majestic roadways and tunnels through mountains and we cannot find the funding for the 12 catastrophically injured a year, without disturbing the rights of others? I find this difficult to accept or believe. A parliamentary enquiry to review the proposed changes by the government has been established but the Bill will be tabled on 5 February 2013 allowing little time for the enquiry to comment on the legislation.

No fault liability schemes have a number of supporters, but such schemes fail to hold accountable those engaging in careless activities which are what fault based schemes do. Doctors, lawyers, bad drivers, everyone in the community should be accountable for their actions. You should have the right to claim if you choose to do so. It is certainly a great incentive to be accountable. Otherwise the effects of careless behaviour continue to result in injury or loss to others in the community.The proposals reveal a complex scheme complicating a relatively simple, well run scheme by a significant number of complex guidelines, expert panels and we have not as yet seen the regulations that will come with it. A well-funded system should be reviewed to see whether it can continue to function well but is of itself an indication that wholesale change is not required. So what is the real motivation? I suspect, as it is in most things, to do with money. Some other jurisdictions have acted similarly. It takes away funds from the

injured to use for other government purposes, which governments in their own minds justify.The current system is not perfect, no system is but it outplays what has been suggested and there is no rational or logical justification for change. We should indeed improve the lot of the 12 and there has to be a better way of doing that other than taking from the injured. I should add that Bowls SA has no intention, as far as I know, of reducing the program for Night Owls Bowls. I suspect the next lot of elections might be some consequence if in fact that were the case. Enjoy your summer bowls but spare a thought for the injured whose rights to compensation may disappear.

Team B is entitled to practice provided there is sufficient time available without delaying the competition and a rink is available other than the one upon which the team is drawn to play in a subsequent round. The object of the law is to ensure a team that has a Bye is not put at a disadvantage. To deny Team B a practice would put it at a disadvantage in its game against Team C in the third round. Law13.1.and Law 13.2

YES. Either team may delay the determining of shots for 30 seconds after the last bowl comes to rest, if they have made that request. No bowl which is likely to fall should be secured during that period. Laws 40.1 and 2

The bowl in course was displaced by an opponent and went on to disturb the head therefore Law 28.1.1.4 applies. The skip of the team that played the bowl should choose whether to:Replace the head and have the bowl replayedReplace the head where the skip believes it would have come to rest; orDeclare the end dead.

Skip B. The end shall be declared a tied end and shall be counted as a played end. Law 41.1.and 2. The ends shall be played in turn from opposite directions. Law 11.3
