Issue: April! June 2014 The Beach Haven Bowler Newsletter for We're back - focussed, positive and wanting to see as many people down on our new bowls green as possible! So, since the last Newsletter, a lot has happened at the Mighty Haven and yours truly has struggled to keep up - hence the delay in this newsletter. However, back on track, I will update you. The Ed! **************************************** 1 st Lady's Update Kia ora! No, you are not seeing things. This is not John Rooney, but Mandy little who is now Acting President, since John decided to up sticks and move to pastures new, well, Papamoa (near Tauranga) actually, and is settling in well. Of course, he still has family here, so we will still see him from time-to-time! So, we started the New Year off well, with many competitions, but due to holidays, illnesses and moves, some of our events haven't been as well attended as we would have liked. However, things are on the up. We have had a great March, with the Club Rooms being loaned out for functions, our new green, although deliberately still slow as it is still in its "settling in" period, we are going to grow and move forward, positively, with the aim of increasing the membership and more delegation from the great Committee the Mighty Haven has on board. Many, many thanks must go to Glenfield, who kindly stepped in and let us use their green for our home matches in the Pennants competition at the beginning of the season and to Sunnybrea, who were on hand and ready to offer us the use their Green if ours was not ready. Much appreciated, thank you. Apart from a small Cyclone that recently hit our shores, our events have all gone ahead as planned. Many thanks to all the organisers, willing helpers, sponsors Beach Haven Bowling Club [email protected] and participants who make all our events at the Mighty Haven so enjoyable. The standard of the bowling is rising - thanks to the wonderful new Green. Keep well, keep smiling and keep positive. FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Plenty of people miss their share ofhappiness, not because they never foundit, but because they didn't stop to enjoy it.

William Feather

Laws of BowlsI thought I would put a short reminder of afew law changes that took place inApril 2011, but still seem to cause someconfusion.

Sets Play (Law 15.5.6) If a Jack isdriven out of bounds, it is respotted on theleft, right or in the centre spot (refer to Law15.5). But, if the spot to be used iscovered by a bowl in play, the Jack shallbe placed as close as possible, in front of,but not touching that particular bowl.Length of Games (Law 16.1.3 and16.2.3) Two-bowl Triples games are 18ends in duration, three bowl Triples reduceto 15 end games.

Score Cards. (Law 37) The Skip willnow keep the score card in all disciplines.

Winter Programme:

Mens & Women Winter Cup:

20 'June, 27 June, 4 July, 18 July, 25 Julyand 1 August.

Good luck again - Champ of Champwinners.

The Mighty Haven is now even more mightier! Following the grand event on the zs" March (see front page). By sharing the loadamongst all the Club's members - full, social and life - everyone was able to savour the event, rather than the same stalwart fewworking the whole time. Well done visitors and members alike! Here are a few photos taken by Richard Pointing to remind us ofthe day, plus a couple of recent Club tournaments. The next issue will include all the winners of the Club Champs.
