We're back - focussed, positive andwanting to see as many people down onour new bowls green as possible!So, since the last Newsletter, a lot hashappened at the Mighty Haven and yourstruly has struggled to keep up - hence thedelay in this newsletter. However,back ontrack, I will update you.The Ed!****************************************

1st Lady's Update

Kia ora!

No, you are not seeing things. This isnot John Rooney, but Mandy little whois now Acting President, since Johndecided to up sticks and move topastures new, well, Papamoa (nearTauranga) actually, and is settling inwell. Of course, he still has family here,so we will still see him from time-to-time!So, we started the New Year off well,with many competitions, but due toholidays, illnesses and moves, some ofour events haven't been as wellattended as we would have liked.However, things are on the up. Wehave had a great March, with the ClubRooms being loaned out for functions,our new green, although deliberately stillslow as it is still in its "settling in" period,we are going to grow and moveforward, positively, with the aim ofincreasing the membership and moredelegation from the great Committeethe Mighty Haven has on board.Many, many thanks must go toGlenfield, who kindly stepped in and letus use their green for our homematches in the Pennants competition atthe beginning of the season and toSunnybrea, who were on hand andready to offer us the use their Green ifours was not ready. Much appreciated,thank you.Apart from a small Cyclone that recentlyhit our shores, our events have all goneahead as planned. Many thanks to allthe organisers, willing helpers, sponsors

St Patrick's Night Twilight - held the dayafter (for obvious reasons!!) Wonderfulfood, including Irish Stew and greenjelly, Guinness and good atmosphere,green bowlers were present to enjoy afab evening's bowling. Here are a fewphotos that capture the event!

Haven HighlightsWell, the most successfulfund-raisingeventat the Haven took place on Friday,28'" March - to celebratethe Beach HavenFestival Month. Promoted byGlenCarpenter and his crew at Ray WhiteBeach Haven, the weather was stunning,tip-topgreen,delightfulfood and fun bowling-which all amountedto a fantasticevening.Amongst others, Barry Milne organisedtheregistration,Pam in the kitchen/cleaningandphotoduty and all membershelpedeither byassistingthe non-bowlers,providingfood orloaning their bowls. Eileen and Richardwere on bar duty and Mo and Chris in theirpinniesBBQ-ingthe fresh meat. A fun eventto get the dub noticed by the community -and promote it as a community venue andbowling centre with many possible newmembers.- and was a huge suocess. Welldone bothto RayWhite and the folk from theMightyHaven!!So, as I am a tad late in producing thisNewsletter, and to save time (plus mymemory isn't all that good), I will just list thewinners of our played matches to date. Laws of BowlsI thought I would put a short reminder of afew law changes that took place inApril 2011, but still seem to cause someconfusion.

Sets Play (Law 15.5.6) If a Jack isdriven out of bounds, it is respotted on theleft, right or in the centre spot (refer to Law15.5). But, if the spot to be used iscovered by a bowl in play, the Jack shallbe placed as close as possible, in front of,but not touching that particular bowl.Length of Games (Law 16.1.3 and16.2.3) Two-bowl Triples games are 18ends in duration, three bowl Triples reduceto 15 end games.

Score Cards. (Law 37) The Skip willnow keep the score card in all disciplines.

The Mighty Haven is now even more mightier! Following the grand event on the zs" March (see front page).
