Inglés en LatinoaméricaLa economía global y el nivel de inglés de sus ciudadanos está llamando cada vez más la atención de gobiernos en américa latina.

Según Education First en el informe publicado al término de 2014, Argentina fue el único país de la región que se colocó en la lista de países con “alta aptitud” (high fitness) y solo República Dominicana alcanzó la columna de “moderada aptitud”.El resto de países de los que se tienen datos fueron catalogados (cataloged) como de “baja aptitud” y “muy baja aptitud”, superados por naciones asiáticas como Corea del Sur, Japón, Vietnam y China.

Los resultados sorprenden teniendo en cuenta que América Latina se encuentra dentro de la esfera (field) de influencia de Estados Unidos y está inundada por los medios de ese país primordialmente angloparlante.

APRENDER UN SEGUNDO IDIOMA APORTA AL CEREBRO LOS MISMOS BENEFICIOS QUE SER

BILINGÜE

Los individuos que aprenden inglés como segun-do idioma desarrollan una estructura de la materia blan-ca del cerebro similar a la de los bilingües. Los resultados indi-can que tanto unos como otros mejoran la cobertura de mielina, la

responsable de garantizar la transmisión de conocimiento (knowledge).

Investigadores de Reino Unido han demostrado que el bilingüismo tiene el mismo efecto positivo en el cerebro (brain) que el aprendizaje de una se-gunda lengua en un entorno inmersivo a una edad adulta (en condiciones similares a las de un ha-blante nativo cuando aprende su idioma materno).En sus experimentos, publicados en la revista PNAS, los científicos (scientists) han mostrado el papel de la materia blanca, y han resaltado que la cobertura de mielina –el componente que ga-rantiza la transmisión de los conocimientos en la materia blanca– mejora tanto en personas bilin-gües, como en las que aprenden un segundo idioma.
