QUARTER 4

Urban LANDSCAPES OBJECTIVE: Urban landscapes are photographs illustrating or telling a story about an urban area, such as downtown Nampa. There are different sub types of photographs for urban landscapes that we will study and emulate for this assignment. Those three sub types are ‘angle attack,’ ‘urban decay,’ and ‘evidence of people..’ Before you begin photographing for this assignment, you will want to research different examples of urban landscapes, and be able to classify each image into one of the three sub types. Many of the photos you will find while researching will be graphic in nature, tell a story about the history of a place or time gone by, or show evidence of what use to be. "IDEAS FOR YOUR SHOOT:

• Photograph buildings or places using creative angles. Get above something, or lay on the ground and see how your composition will change.

• Find old or abandoned places and tell a story about what’s left behind, or barely standing. [Beware of trespassing! - Don’t do it!]

• Find things that suggest there were people around at one point in time. Get creative with how you place this in your frame.

• Pay attention to the color/temperature of the light – warm or cool & how it affects your photograph's feel/mood.

• Use side lighting to create texture & depth in your image • FILL THE FRAME • Photograph in as many different lighting situations – bright & sunny, overcast etc. Pay attention to how

different types of light will change the emotion or mood in your photograph. "REQUIREMENTS: 1. You will need to create one final image for this assignment, showcasing one of the three sub types. 2. Your image MUST be creative and visually interesting. 3. Your final image MUST be color corrected and retouched in Photoshop. - Don’t convert it to B & W unless that’s part of your final vision. 4. Your final image MUST be digitally presented, and saved as a FLATTENED PSD file. " """""""""

WATER "

OBJECTIVE: For this project, you will need to photograph water as the main subject. There are different ways to capture the textures and essence of water photographically. You can ‘stop’ water during it’s flow, or photograph it so it seems to flow into smooth satin. Water is a subject to get really creative with. You can also capture beautiful reflections in small or large bodies of water. "IDEAS FOR YOUR SHOOT:

• Photograph during the early or late hours of the day when shadows are more apparent, longer, and more accentuated.

• Use a tripod or stable surface with your camera’s timer with a slow shutter speed to catch water in motion, or make it look smooth and silky.

• Create interesting compositions with leading lines of streams/rivers. • Fill the frame. • Catch a drop of water or splashing water with a fast shutter speed. (Put your camera on the action or

TV mode.) • Use different angles and get creative! "

REQUIREMENTS: "1. You will need to create one final image for this

assignment, showcasing one of the three sub types. "2. Your image MUST be creative and visually interesting. "3. Your final image MUST be color corrected and

retouched in Photoshop. - Don’t convert it to B & W unless that’s part of your final vision. "

4. Your final image MUST be digitally presented, and saved as a FLATTENED PSD file. """"""

MACRO "

OBJECTIVE: For this project, you will need to create macro photographs. There are different general subjects we will photograph in a macro style: everyday, nature, & graphic. While photographing, look at the everyday objects, nature, and possible graphic patterns and textures around you. Find ways to create new & interesting perspectives by getting close, and shooting in macro mode. You will need to be sure that your focal point is in tack sharp focus. Also, pay attention to the light around you and around your subject. Use it to your advantage. "IDEAS FOR YOUR SHOOT:

• Photograph during the early or late hours of the day when shadows are more apparent, longer, and more accentuated.

• Use macro mode and the zoom function on your camera to get even closer to your subject. • Create interesting compositions with leading lines and textures. • Fill the frame. • Use different angles and get creative! ""

REQUIREMENTS: "1. You will need to create one final image for this

assignment, showcasing one of the three general subjects. \ "

2. Your image MUST be creative and visually interesting. "3. Your final image MUST be color corrected and

retouched in Photoshop. - Don’t convert it to B & W unless that’s part of your final vision. "
