No violence or anything, everybody peaceful and cheerful, but with a lot of noise. Driving out of Dresden the newspaper happened upon the dwelling of colourful local political opportunist, Mr Joseph Mohlala (erstwhile of COPE, now ANC) who cheerfully invited the reporters into his house where a number of women was busy cooking for the ANC. We did not have time for a bite, but asked for comment, Mr Mohlala duly explained that his opinion of the incident at the voting station is that the so-called supporters of the EFF were simply re-clad in a more acceptable colour and that he was sure it was not an effort to disrupt anything. Another strange sight the newspaper happened upon was that a fully operational voting station was active at the school amongst the ruins of Segorong. All the people in the village were relocated to Praktiseer (by Rhino Minarals to make way for the expansion of the andalusite mine) since the last elections, but a large group of them did not re-register. The Presiding Officer told the newspaper “it is still early, there is nobody here and transport is an issue you know? Maybe they will still come later”. Our route took us through Fetakgomo Local Municipality where we encountered the only COPE supporters we saw the whole day and Makhudathamaga Local Municipality where the EFF was very active. For the rest it was clear that the ANC was well organised and did everything in its power to get voters to the voting stations. We happened upon Mr Roelof Lourens of the DA just before sunset as we returned to Burgersfort from Leboeng. He was very positive about his party’s performance after a long day on the road. At the time of going to press yesterday (Thursday), detailed results for our area were not yet available. More photographs on - p 2, p 3
